No one will ever replace this man! He is a genius! I love his music since I was we a little boy! I don`t even have words to express my feelings towards his magnificent music!
King of Instrumental music!!!! Began to love him more since Moscow concert 1997 and to this day... HE IS THE BEST!!! SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would have been nice to see some of Francis Rimbert's finger-work towards the end of Rendez-Vous IV.............I doubt the video resolution would have been able to keep up!!
Thanks for posting, a fantastic concert, JMJ back on form.
The track in the beginning is Waiting for Cousteau, and is actually more than 40 min long, and one of the best ambient tracks in history..i wish i could upload it but i don´t have permission to upload that long tracks..:(...but thx for this nice upload..:)
At 30.18 when he is telling us about Bruno Does he say fu#k off? it certainly sounds like it.
But I really enjoyed him playing the Theremin instrument in this concert particularly infact I would say this is the best I have ever heard him play that instrument, absolutely amazing, it just felt so good listening to that.
I really liked this concert, but there sounded like a lot of mistakes when he played the laser harp, I wonder if those were on purpose, also I always thought he wasn't playing that and it was just for show, but the fact he makes a lot of mistakes on the laser harp suggest he really does play that, for years I thought it was just a gimiick.
@adamcrookedsmile One of the many problems of the laser harp. It registering the notes correctly and in-time is not 100% reliable and quite fragile to weather conditions (air moisture, etc.). But the cool thing you see in this video especially with these errors: it IS working and live, and not fake ;)...
It does register notes correctly and is not fragile to weather conditions. What happens is you need haze to see the beams. Outside, you can see the haze is being generated but just dissipates into the atmosphere. In his concerts, the whole venue is full of haze - this is for the laser harp and laser projectors!
The wrong notes are because he can hardly see the beams! Other mistakes are where the ambient light is setting off the sensor.
@cjmitz Thanks a lot, very interesting information but it seems to have other problems at Rendez-Vous 2 here. You clearly see at 1:27:07, that he is hitting the correct lasers, still no sound at all. Only few seconds later at 1:27:14 when he starts the notes, there is the highest note being played but he is not even near the beam for that note. So I would rather guess it did register wrong notes, but what could be the reason if not weather?
@Lofote As I was explaining, the reflection off of his hands sets off a sensor below. The camera flashes, ambient light, fireworks etc. means the sensor was probably set to be very insensitive (which is why it didn't work a few times), but even then - there was enough ambient light to set it off when he wasn't playing it.
@Lofote For fun, I really wanted one and enjoy electronics (and being 17, can't really do it professionally yet)! :) It took about a month. I am working on a second version over the next month which has more features, can be a full colour laser harp and also fixes some potential issues (it should be more stable then this harp JMJ is playing on)! Then I might sell them so people can have their own, I know a lot of people want one!
@TheTmoorhouse I think you mean the second part of Cronologie 2. But in the description bar, I've writen down the tracklist, so you'll be able to find each song played here.
I have great respect for JMJ and I listen to his music relatively often, but what's this with playback and not actually playing live?
The moment when he starts playing the main lead for Oxygen part 2 it becomes obvious he's not really playing. Because if he had really been playing he wouldn't be jumping but concentrating on what key he's playing at the moment.
Concerts should be played live JMJ, not on playback.Even if you don't get every note right you can improvise and it can still be good
this guy is a genius... I liked him a lot when I was a kid back there at the 80's and I didn't have any idea that we was still playing!!! Forget Lady Crapa and stuff... he is the genius and a great musician!!
Seen him at his outdoor concerts at Docklands London, La Defence Paris, Wembley Stadium + numerous indoor concerts. What a mega star !!! Wish I was holidaying in Monaco instead of Marbella this year as it looked a great performance. Can't wait for his next outdoor gig. Hopefully I will be there :) Hope he doesn't retire soon. Keep going JMJ you're a legend.
I can' believe this, some days ago..on 27th August, I had the same wish...to have his music on my Wedding Day !!!!! :-))) And it was so clear to me, that this I must do !
@Kraftwerkification - We've never been fortunate enough to have JMJ perform in Australia (at least not that I'm aware) so it's great to be able to see and hear one of his live concerts. Thanks for posting.
