  • A band called Alligator Stew covers this song really good, also. They are on youtube,.

  • I love the original Bob Seger, but Waylon and of all people Aaron Lewis (it's on Youtube as well) both took this song to a whole other level.

  • Bob is one of my favorite guys ever. I hate when others say Metalica does this better. Old Hoss is the ONLY one who can beat Bob!

  • wow lotta ppl sing this metlica and bob seager and sam morrison

  • Waylon has written a LOT of country's classics!

  • @dougransley

I wish that was true, but Waylon didn't write very many of his songs. He sang the hell out of them, but didn't write many.

  • i really hate it i have to turn the page because she wont let me fix it

  • shit forgot the other s

  • godbless you hos you are missed

  • Even Bob can't listen to this without smiling. Way to go Hoss!

  • we miss ya waylon

  • pretty sure waylon killed it!!

  • Layin on the floor in front of four 8's, mids and highs, Damn fine! Done hit replay twice!

  • Highwaymen, Trucker's and Guitar men, Bob and Way more, that's it.

  • It's rest in PEACE, not piece.... are you ignorant or were you drinking?

  • @snakemelon1 does it matter what are you the spell check police

  • 4 people suck, i dont het it if you dont like the song why did you click on it to listen to it.Are you 4 just dumb or stupid?

  • @MrARYANBROTHER I'd say its a little bit of both !!!

  • My only issues wuth this version is it is to slow and seems to have less eeling than Bob 's version I do not hate this I just prefer The rock 'N" Roll version best. Rest im Piece Waylon.

  • 3 people are on that pop shit.

  • I thought It's wrote by James Hetfield :)) hahah

  • @Windy4rockin noob

  • @tomhuitema you mean your mother?

  • its hard to say who did this song the best Bob or Waylon but i saying its the best but i like the way Metallica played this

  • @tattoorocker Get out

  • I have to agree with MrStacy1977 good music know no boundary or genre. Ihave heard all three versions, all really good its the song not the singer!!

  • It's not an insult to the great Waylon Jennings to say the Bob Segers version is still better. Hoss didn't record it to try and one up Bob. It's ok to like both versions. Seger poured his heart and soul into his version. It was first and will always be my favorite.

  • metallica took a song about road musicians and made a video about a transvestite hooker . That deserves a kick in the junk. DISLIKE METALLICA. like they don't have long hair and get flak. WTF?

  • Origin...

  • In my honest opinion: Metallica's is the best out of all 3. This is probably the least favorite of mine, but I'm not really a country kinda guy, so my opinion is bias

  • this is a great tune no matter who sings it ....... metallica's version like this version is good.Good song writing can cross any musical boundary

  • Although I can respect other's opinions about which versions they prefer, I still believe Bob's version stands alone as the best, definitive version. Waylon's is pretty good though. Never much cared for the Metallica cover.

  • Waylon is the best.rip friend....JIM

  • no matter bob owns this...period.

  • metallica phucked this song up

    Bob's version- genius

    Waylon's version - genius

metallica's - copy cat- tried to way to hard to sound like Bob's version

  • Anybody know what album this is on?

  • Thank you teddie488. Waylon was my dads favorite singer and I have loved his music since childhood. Never knew he covered this one though. Thanks again!

  • Bob was the first to sing this song and I loved it. But I have to agree with everyone Hoss "take's the cake"

  • Doesnt matter who has/will do this song...in the end, you just cant fuck with Waylon.

  • Everything Waylon did kicked it up a notch! He did what he always did- his own thing and made it more beautiful than anyone else! Always missed, but never forgotten!!!!

  • best version ever even better then metallicas

  • Waylon sure knew as much about the lyrics in this songs as Seger or anyone else. This song could have been about him just as easily as Bob. The steel guitar and keyboard in this one matches the beautiful sax in the original. Sweet, how did I miss this all these years?

  • like this version much better then Seger's, his is so whiny

  • Chills, I miss you Waylon, You were the King, sorry George

  • This is the BEST one Made

  • Not a bad version of Seger's song.

  • I just found this. It is awesome. The late great Waylon lived all this, and then some.

  • would have been a classic for seager to do this song togeather all three versions are on my favorites. first time to ever hear his version waylons version right up there with the other two

  • seeger does it bbetter

  • don't know that there is a "bad" version of this song. Which shows just how awesome this song actually is. Bob Seger's version is extremely soulful. Metallica's will rock your face off and this one has got that country boy feel to it. Don't like the sage francis one though. I think he might have done that as a joke though.

  • mix the two of favorite singer/songwriter together and wa-la, you have a Hoss singing a seger song, are vise-vs. either way is good. excellent.

  • Excellent song from Waylon, RIP Eddie ~ Arthur

  • This one's UNTOUCHABLE by Ole Hoss..Sorry Bob..

  • @jojoheartspaypay I expect Bob Likes it too huh !!

  • @jojoheartspaypay - Waylon might fill a back stage bar with a few friends with this =...Bob Seger filled stadiums.. No offence Waylon.

  • @shigityswa123

Waylon never had a problem filling stadiums with ANY of his music.

  • @shigityswa123 I would happily be one of those back stage friends! no offence seger

  • sung by many, owned by WAYLON JENNINGS!!

  • @RandysRanch lol i agree friend lol

  • @RandysRanch easy now. Bob Seger wrote the song....so....really...legally....still owned by Bob Seger.

  • @RandysRanch this would've been bad ass had the Highwayman performed it.

  • You can damn near hear the whine of the wheels on the highway...

  • @hughbo52 I agrree it is a great tune a Bob Seger classic but Waylon did a more than great Job with this

    tc my friend

  • Damn good music, feels like i'm a cowboy when i listen to this =)

  • @maskrosen78 I'm glad you liked it my friend ...tc

  • As good as the original is, I've always hated the sound of the saxophone(no matter who plays it, I just cannot get into the sax at all), so this version not having it is a definite win in my book.

  • how hard it must have been for shooter to share his dad with the world.

  • like bob segers version better but i have to agree that waylon can do no wrong when he sings

  • @Kittycatsong120 Thats a fair comment if you looked at my channel, the you can guess why i say Waylons is my favourite version of a great tune which of was a big hit for Bob Seger

  • waylon was one of a kind and always will be! thanks so much for posting.

  • God Bless Waylon

  • @speedytoo yea i'll go with that .... take Care

  • Thought it was a good song when Seager did it, but Waylon REALLY nails it! WOW!!!

  • @RoyKellyii Great great song thanks good comment ...tc

  • Waylon will always have my respect, the man could do no wrong when it came to music. Bob or waylon? Doesn't matter Bob wrote it, performed it and made it famous. Waylon covered it and covered it perfectly, Bob should be proud.

  • @wiffsofsmoke I think he will be too too thank you tc my friend

  • Heard an interview Waylon did and he said when Segar wrote the song he flew to Nashville and pitched it to Waylon. Segar told Waylon the song was about Waylon.

  • Holy sh"t ! First I find Bob Segar came out with this before metallica now I find out one of the best country singers has sung this too? lol wonder who metallica listened to Waylon or Segar? lol Still love metallica 's cover though.

  • @MissWWE20 It is just agreat song..does it really matter ..i think you , like me just enjoyed it so much, although i am a massive fan of Waylon..thank you

  • @MissWWE20 I am not sure but I do know Waylon toured some with Metallica.

  • @MissWWE20 metallica did a cover of Waylon's "Dont you think this outlaw bit done got out of hand"

  • i am a firm beleiver that certain songs are "untouchabel" and should NEVER be covered. waylon did it left and right and i love every one of them. why? because his versions had the same thing the originals had. heart, emotion and feeling in bucketloads. hes not up there "singing" a song. hes feeling it as it pours out of him. there is and always will be only one waylon. who is he? waylon GD jennings....thats who

  • @unclebumble442 great comment .....tc my friend

  • @unclebumble442 You said Perfect....!

  • One of my all time favorite songs-never knew Waylon recorded it. He nails it! Only one thing I kinda find funny-"is it a woman or a man"-yeah Waylon by then had grown his hair long-but I doubt he would ever be confused as a woman-and I can't see Waylon not making a stand-because he was outnumbered-Waylon was one sexy hunk of a man-may he R.I.P.Thanks for the post.

  • @BrandonTxOthor Your Welcome my friend ...tc

  • this is damn good, but i still prefer the original. still it's damn good

  • @REfan4800 Well i won't argue with that, it is fair comment thanks !!!

  • American Outlaw

  • Ummm all I can say is wow. And this is why Waylon Jennings is my all time favorite artist. ever.

  • Holy ..... I cat think of what to say..... First time i heard this version and its still sending chills up and down my spine. This is exactly why, of all the gees of music I listen to, Waylon will always top my favorites

  • @purplemushroomcloud thanks for taking the time to comment .. tc my friend

  • Waylon,simply the best-thanks for sharing this,mate.

  • Best version ever!!!! Move over Segar there's a new Hoss in town!

  • @bowmanjmw2010 Oh Yea well said !!!

  • You are just there all the time, Waylon always will be

    Muriel xxx

  • Yea does it so well ...thanks TC

  • I got the chills to this one , stright to the soul.

  • You too Bridget Really nice to see here

  • Yeah for Waylon..and Yeah for Teddie

take care, my friend, love, Bridget

  • Holy... Chills from the first word.

  • @amoderndaydrifter Thank you ......TC

  • WOKOTOSHA

  • Love all of Hoss' Music

  • @HOSSHEAD Come round anytime

  • Great song done by the greatest ....... good pics .... thanks Eddie ........wba

  • @1954WBA i couldn't agree more BA

  • Waylon was my favorite country artist back in the 70's. In my humble opinion he's one of the all time best to date.

  • @joharasaluki Thank you for commenting .......you got that right my friend he is the best ever

  • Sun Records released Cash's Folsom Prison Blues on December 15, 1955. Waylon's first album was done in 1964, first single release in 1965. Willie Nelson started the "Outlaw" movement. Read the history.

  • @boothl232 Now i aint bothered but you sound like you are trying to correct me on who did what and to read it up. Well let me direct to Waylon ...An Autbiography pages 228/229it tells you how it all happened you also seem to be ging off dates of certain releases..JC was never an Outlaw althought he would not be dictated too..Willie Yea sure he was a leader and dfeserves as much credit as Waylon ..Now are really worried how it all started ...tc my friend

  • @teddie488 I didn't say Cash was even involved in the Outlaw movement. I'm just saying that he was around a LOT longer than Waylon. Saying you're an expert doesn't make you one. You can have your opinion, I can have mine. "Read the history" is a statement not an instruction, my friend. And just so YOU know, I think Waylon is the BEST country artist to ever sing a song.

  • @boothl232 No That is true, saying i am an expert does not make me one,.. i did not say that and would never make such a claim, but you have not read the book i mentioned or you may not have made your statement ''Willie started the outlaw movement'' but we do agree on one thing Waylon was the best country singer ever ... tc and have a good holiday

  • @teddie488 mommenon1 replied to me - Just to inform you, teddie488 is one of the foremost leading knowledgeable persons about Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson and the history of the onset of the "Outlaw Movement". Foremost means expert. I'm not gonna keep butting heads with you over this, believe what you want.

  • @teddie488 I disagree that Waylon was a Godfather of Country. It's like a family tree

major artists in order were Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Hank Sr., Johnny Cash,

George Jones, Willie & Waylon (among others). To be a Godfather you have to be an originator or leading exponent. Waylon might qualify for Outlaw but not Country as you stated.

  • @boothl232 Just to inform you, teddie488 is one of the foremost leading knowledgeable persons about Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson and the history of the onset of the "Outlaw Movement". I assure you that he has read the history......On this site you enjoy the music and the vids and make a positive comment or none at all....You don't dictate a person.....there are friendlier, more polite ways to address the person........tc ...Happy Holidays....

  • @mommenon1 Sorry I didn't know that he was such an expert, as his credentials aren't posted here. But I wasn't trying to be rude. Just trying to give credit where credit is due.

Waylon was playing rock with Buddy Holly well after Cash had been established as a Country artist. Just stating the facts. If Waylon started in the '60's he's no Godfather,

except to Hank Williams III. Just because you're a fan doesn't make you an expert.

  • @boothl232 Read my dear friend.... nowhere does it say expert... it says one of the foremost leading knowledgeable persons....As far as "Read the history" goes, it could be interpreted as a statement and instruction..the way you made it sound in your comment was like a scolding and that could have been left out.......You could have said "Thank you for the share" or something in that direction.....

  • @mommenon1 Thanks for the scolding

  • @boothl232.. lol..... You needed that!!!! TC..

  • @boothl232 Glad we agree on one thing lol... WAYLON IS THE BEST COUNTRY ARTIST EVER TO SING A SONG.......tc!!!

  • @mommenon1 Hell I am so glad we came to some kind of an agreement and i thank you both for your contribution, it made you tube just a little more intersting i hope you both have a real happy christmas.

  • @boothl232 Hell I am so glad we came to some kind of an agreement and i thank you both for your contribution, it made you tube just a little more intersting i hope you both have a real happy christmas.

  • Waylon is in many ways the godfather of Country Music. Before Waylon music was written by corporations and nobody made money on touring. Waylon had the first Country Music Rock Star Contract. Then he brings his old roommate Johnnny Cash in and meets Willie Nelson and brings him in. Country music was never the same after that.

  • @Yoshidoce2006... Yea he did change the image of the country singer, but there are very few of his type left now. Nashville i clawing its way back to the fore and the rhinestone is creeping back in just a few days ago Taylor Swift who is either here or due here on tour, i saw her billed as the new Queen of country. And that just about says it all for me ...tc

  • @teddie488 Haus was a rebel and he had a cause. Nobody else is in his position, (A declining product and him being the biggest rising star) or has the grape fruits to do what he did. Waylon gave these young kids the freedom they have, yet they never mention him. Alabama is going to honor him with an album of Waylon hits though. Thankfully the old guys still have respect.

  • Thank You :) Waylon was and is still the best!

  • @bz997 yea i agree

  • Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Hank Williams Jr may be more popular than Waylon Jennings (and I don't know how) but Waylon just had that voice. I can listen to him all day long. I'd rather listen to him than most of the modern country stars. Some of them ain't worth the charmin Waylon wiped his ass with.

  • @dexterbleeds Waylon is still The Man

  • @teddie488 Yes he is.

  • @dexterbleeds Dude you are soooooo right!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Ole Waylon. The only reason Waylon became a big star was because he strong armed the Nashville Sound to get Country Music's first Rock Star Contract. He was a true pioneer. Everyone in Country Music today should be on their knees praying to Waylon Jennings and using their off time to visit and kiss his tomb stone for what they have.

  • @Yoshidoce2006. Well now his like are a bit thin on the ground now have you

noticed how it is slipping back to the way it was, thank god for at least one budding star in Jamey Johnson.

  • @teddie488 I dont even listen to todays music. It is basically pop music with a fiddle. No originality. At least when the Outlaw Movement began it still resembled Country Music, it was just harder, more masculine. This stuff today doesnt even resemble country music. Waylon and Johnny would be rolling over in their graves.

  • @Yoshidoce2006 I couldn't agree more .........

  • @teddie488 -Teddie, WHICH Waylon album was this on?? I have more than 50-60 Hoss albums, on LP, cassettes, and CDs...even MP3s...

yet, this eluded me til now, after all these years...unless i just am forgetting hearing it on one of the MANY Waylon albums I pride myself on having!

    RIP Waylon...

  • @12symon Hi There it is from the album of the same name 1985 hope you got it if you aint come back

  • @teddie488 - wow-did they EVER make a CD of that album? i missed THAT somewhere down the collecting-all-i-could road!! Waylon & John Prine have BOTH been THA MAN for me, musically, for right at 4 decades....

don't know how this album eluded me... G

  • @Yoshidoce2006

    Amen!

  • Waylon is the man, always was and always will be. Damn the new country, it belongs on another radio station. We need our outlaws back.

  • @doyleusmc thanks for commenting..of c ourse your right

  • RIP to one of the brightest stars country music has ever seen. It's too bad Nashville won't allow real country to come back. There's still plenty of folks out there doing real country, some of whome (such as Heather Myles) are incredibly talented. But they're a threat to the pop country and country rock market that Nashville is now thriving on. So very few get signed.

  • @13ShadowsintheGrave A Great comment and your right of course

  • Waylon and Hank SR. was true music where did it go?

  • Mrs Samick, it is out there somewhere but there just ain't enough greats left anymore to sing it for us

  • great performance great 'sad' voice... just great. I just love Waylon's version, it puts tears in my eyes. and makes my heart rush. I have a shrine in my room for the Highwaymen...they are my gods in country music.

  • @nahdy80 Right on.

  • One of my favorite waylon songs the pictures go so well with this video. waylon could take any song and make it his own. Country music needs you waylon

  • Thanks Hoss,,,,,,great comment

  • Comment removed

  • my cousin put his heart in all of his music waylon this song i like the best next to house of the rising sun

  • good comment thanks mick

  • @teddie488 your welcome friend

  • If you like this one, you should check out The Highwaymen's version of "Against the Wind."

  • Yea thanks i have the Highwaymen Albums and your right they are great

  • Waylon sang it like he felt it.

  • And i am sure he did ..tc

  • Ya Teddie i agree with you and i really like this song a lot the way Waylon does it it just seems like it would be more of his classic style if he had what i said before you know. But thanks for commenting back

  • @55centerstage i understand youre point friend. but there is only one waylon like there was only one elvis and so on. thats why they are legends. even his son cannot replace him. its going to take some young man with a lot heart and history of days gone by to bring a old sound in his own style to help us old timers out here that miss the old days. take care and godbless.

  • Love Waylon but wish they used the classic reverb and phaser effect on guitar like he always does other than the distortion stuff. And the orchestra sound cheap and synthesized and should be real, deep, and full to match his vojce

  • Waylon musta liked it or you wouldn't of got to hear it ...i loved it, but hey ain't it a good job we aren't all the same life would be so boring ...thanks for the comment

  • the voice

  • The Best

  • What a voice.

    And a true Outlaw.

    And cool telecaster to boot.

  • Thanks Herschel you take care

  • best version of this song for sure and i love the Bob Seger one too but Waylon's is great

  • Yea Waylon everytime

  • I love this song

  • I do too tc my friend

  • Yea me too tc my friend

  • just so u all no my name is waylon spelled exactly the same n i like some country mostly rock tho n i play guitar

  • never seen Waylon sooo Awesome.. :)

  • Comment removed

  • I was lucky enough to have seen waylon Live and he was fantastic Txs for commenting

  • Best guy out there right now for that good ole outlaw country is Jamey Johnson.

  • Well there are still acouple of good old ones left..... but Jamey Johnson is a bit special got a great style.

  • Great song. Waylon really put his heart and soul into it--very autobiographical when you listen to the lyrics. "here I am on the road again, here I am up on the stage again, here I go, playin star again, there I go, turn the page."

  • Hi sandy yea it is a real good tune .. i am a fan of Bob Seger he wrote a lot of good stuff

  • We must like all the same kind o' Stuff... ..Sandy shows we are people of good taste tc my friend
