You're really a very excellent teacher! I just picked up a charango two days ago and already have learned so much from your posts. Thank you so much. I love the sound of this instrument. I've been trying to find some instruction book or something so I can learn to read the notes as their writtern and at least have a notational sense of the fretboard, I've been on foot and online...I have plenty of chords,. I guess I'll just write them out myself...all in time...it's a helluva lot of fun.
Thank you. As an old Brit lady coming into my seventies I am about to purchase my very first Charango. Can play piano and have written songs, produced videos, written scripts and painted inside oyster shells. Here goes with a new adventure.

I was under the impression that 'tono' was the Spanish musical term for what in English is called the 'key.' El tono de do seria "the key of C." En el tono de re menor would be "in the key of D minor." Is this correct?
So a Major Triad normally = 1st/3rd/5th of a scale. Are tonos basically chord inversions and 2nd/4th/6ths, 3rds/5ths/7ths etc of a given scale? Thanks for your video, excellent teaching and playing!
Thanks! Been wanting to learn el charango! That song, Naranjita, reminds me of my dad- my family is Bolivian. Thanks again-will be practicing your lessons!
Thanks for the video Leo! My armadillo back charango just came in. A nice charango but I'm already looking to get a better one. I followed your video on tuning but used my chromatic tuner instead of a tuning fork. This tune is the first one I learned tonight. Thanks alot!
Hello Leo, I got a charango yesterday and the first thing that I have to do is tune it. So, I have a tuner that I use for my guitar but i don't know if it is correct because this instrument is really new to me. If you can make a video about tunning the charango with a tuner and then show the sounds/results at the end it would be really helpful for people like me that are starting to play this awesome and beautiful instrument.
HI there... I picked up a very nice Charango in Cusco Peru from a band who was actually playing with it. It has a pickup and amplifier plug in. I'm enjoying watching your videos and really want to learn to play it. When you are strumming for tremolo, are you actually strumming all five strings? It looks (on the video) that you're only doing 2-4?... VERY new to this instrument.
Thanks so much for the great lessons! That Dm seems a bit tricky--do you do a partial barre on the second fret on the two uppermost strings (like some people do when playing an E on the guitar)?
Just keep practicing--it takes a little while, but this all becomes second nature.
I will to do a video about movable major, minor and 7th chord shapes you can freely move up and down the neck to create different chords with ease. You can also make a Dm barre chord as 75555, but understand that is an octave higher than 22101. Just keep working on 22101--it will come!
As for two-string chords-let's not speak of that again, lol. Real chords have at least 3 notes. This isn't Linkin Park!
hi, thanks for your aport, im from argentina and i love the charango. but today im start too lerning, jeje! thanks, up load more you are a good teacher! by!

Glad I can help. Be sure to read my notes, though, the video by itself is a little vague in spots.

Thanks! The chord changes on this tono are a bit of a challenge at speed, especially C to E7 and Am to G7, but I'm getting there.
