It harkens back to an time when Australians were really proud to be Aussie, & so all the references (like the musical beer bottles, the beach) & of course the vegemite means a lot to most Aussies. I mean, if one of us went in to a pub (or bar) overseas looking for an english speaker & heard our accent or got a responce like "he just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich we would love it (well I would love it) :-)
