  • The wind that shakes the barley is a piece of ignorant irish republican propaganda. It dehumanises everyone who isn't an irish nationalist. The depictions of the british are grotesque. You wouldn't know unionists existed from watching this film so you can't understand why ireland was partitioned or why anyone would object to the violence of the provos. This film is shameful!

  • The brits did this to us and the IRA are the terrorists for wanting a full Ireland

  • Despite my pro-unionist feelings, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. This is an excellent story of passion, conviction, and family. It is a depressing movie, but the script and the acting come together to create a meaningful and excellent film.

  • God I love YouTube :) some help on my assignment for communication and representations on Ireland

  • It shows you what murdering bastards the Black and Tans were. The British were the biggest terrorists the world has ever seen.Their great Empire had blood seeping from it. were

  • Just finished watching this film. Great movie about freedom, friendships and betrayal. A true tragedy and a great drama.

  • And, one more other good Ken Loach film, "Bread and Roses"(2000). Not a war film though. About the stuggles of immigrants in Los Angeles, California, USA wanting to form a union. The actual union that formed, that the film is based on, actually showed up at the film premier in 2000 with banners and all for support. The soundtrack to this film was also popular. It's important to note that Ken Loach often chooses actors that have zero experience acting, but his films win "TONS" of awards.

  • This 2006 film is considered one of the best war films of all time, and I agree. My second best is "Land & Freedom" (1995), about the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939, also by Ken Loach. The driving force behind these realistic masterpieces is the class-based perspectives and analyses. This is why communist/socialist orgainizations invite these artists to speak at their forums, or critique Ken Loach's films in their press.

  • Best film, makes me cry. Up the rebels (Y)

  • best film ever :D cry EVERY time!!

  • what's the song from 1:57 to 2:32?

    thanks in advance

  • I love Cilian Murphy

  • This movie was terrible. Bad character development, low budget it just seemed that all of it happened over night. It is also, not a war movie.

    Good subject, bad film

  • @Airsoftattack123 sounds like you werent engaged

  • @Airsoftattack123 I think when you become an adult you will be able to appreciate adult drama.

  • @22grena Maybe you're right. But take my word for it, the films I watch are in no comparison to the films every other teenager watches (Crappy horror films, lame comedies) I was just not a fan of this flick.

  • @Airsoftattack123 You have to understand the Directors style, and I don't think you would like any of his other films either. But saying that, you are right too, in that this film has faults, the small budget being one, and the fact that the director tends to get carried away by his own particular obsessions.

  • @Airsoftattack123 I suppose it did win the best film at 'Palm d'or' in Cannes 2006 plus best Cimematography at The European Film Awards of the same year...so in that regard had something going for a low budget movie also made around 25 mill U.S.$ in worldwide sales in the first year........ also it seemed to be well recieved in most countries as British Colonialism / Imperialism left it's mark on so many peoples where the 'Butchers Apron' was flown...

  • @Airsoftattack123

You can't just throw around buzzwords and expect to be taken seriously. 'bad character developement' what does that even mean? The characters developed, and in parallel to the story, did you not like how they developed? because that doesn't make it bad. It caertainly is a war movie, since it is a movie taking place and focusing on a war, it is simply character driven, perhaps you should go and watch Transformers again

  • @Unevaluated I dont like considering movies like The Pianist, and Schindlers List, and The Wind That Shakes The Barley as War movies. They are great movies, but I like to consider Warfare movies as war movies, like Platoon, and Black Hawk Down.

  • @3Axy10Est13

Think what you like they are war films

  • @Unevaluated I just think warfare when i think war movies. But if you consider it a war film, to me it is the 3rd best war film ever, behind Platoon, and The Pianist.

  • @3Axy10Est13

i'm not so sure. From a political aspect it is one of my favourite political war films, but in general the genre is far too broad and filled with some of the best films in history for TWTSTB to e in my top 3, the Thin Red Line would be ahead of it for sure

  • @Unevaluated The Thin Red Line was my #4 choice.

    1.The Pianist

    2.Platoon

    3.TWTSTB

    4.The Thin Red Line

    5.Black Hawk Down

  • what song is that from 1:04 to 1:54 please tell

  • Forget not the boys of Kilmichael.

  • go on the cork boys

  • @libertycaps666 Shame the actors weren't West Cork boys

  • Gosh I love Cilian Murphy
