if you aren't you really should use a feeder cage so it doesn't get ready to eat every time you want to get him out of his normal cage. also i would recommend not haveing bark in the feeder cage so he doesnt get an impaction from eating bark.
also cypress mulch is better for him. i would also feed him a bit less because obeasity can be a real problem for monitors and he's looking a little chubby.
other than that so long as he's acting healthy he's probably fine.

also if that's his normal cage you really should look up a caresheet online.
just google "(whatever species of monitor that is) care sheet"
