This report also mentions returning GIs, for which Ms. Napoitano has apologized and said it shouldn't have been released, oops, included in the report. She also cites groups like Ron Paul supporters, anti abortion whackos, religious whack jobs of every stripe and anti illegales as suspect. She cites NRA members, other 2nd amendment supporters, anyone who does not support Obama as a possible enemy of the state.
I see: reading comprehension issues! There is a large circle of people who hold conserv views. They are in the millions. Then there is another circle advocating for the violent overthrow of the US gov. These 2 circles intersect in a group of few thousand ppl. That intersection is what the report is talking about. Then there is a 3rd circle of 23 million military veterans out of whom 203 ppl intersect with the previous 2 grps. These 203 have "operational capability". ie. pose real threat.

While technically this is correct, this footnote is sloppy. It should have said that extremist groups r grps advocating violent anti gov action in violation of 18 USC 2385 while posing as single issue conserv groups. Spin it any way you want to. The fact of the matter is there are groups out there who hate our current administration for reasons that are repugnant, but pretty expected from those types of people. There's potential for those people to approach veterans who have similar inclinations. That's not every veteran, it's a handful. When people call for hanging the president and congress, they take that group's aspirations at face value. Pity Bush didn't pay better attention to reports prior to 9/11.

I see: reading comprehension issues! There is a large circle of people who hold conserv views. They are in the millions. Then there is another circle advocating for the violent overthrow of the US gov. These 2 circles intersect in a group of few thousand ppl. That intersection is what the report is talking about. Then there is a 3rd circle of 23 million military veterans out of whom 203 ppl intersect with the previous 2 grps. These 203 have "operational capability". ie. pose real threat.

She was apologizing for the wording of a footnote that said: extremist groups "may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration." While technically this is correct, this footnote is sloppy. It should have said that extremist groups r grps advocating violent anti gov action in violation of 18 USC 2385 while posing as single issue conserv groups. That's logical since they can't org & put up websites advocating assassination.

Try reading the actual report for a change - nothing in it says vets are a threat. It says that extremist groups, white supremacists etc, have been targeting vets for recruitment.
This echoes a 2008 FBI report on the same thing.

I just listened to Laura Ingram's show and she was actually challenging her audience to find the facts on which the DHS report was based upon. If only 2% of her audience has the brains to take her up on this & accidentally bumps into the FBI report about the 203 military persons recruited by the nazis 2001-2008, that's 2% of her base who'll vote for the democrats next time (ie. both her cat & her dog!)

The point is that vets are _targets_. As in, white supremacists and so forth might try to _recruit_ them. As in, the vets _aren't_ considered criminals. The point is to identify the extremists who might target the vets.
This was all pretty plainly explained in the report. Getting upset about it is like getting upset about a report on drug dealers trying to recruit young black kids and claiming that it insults young black kids.

Check around YT, there's adocumentary about gang members (often black, if that's what you want) joining the military, getting training, then coming back and teaching their fellow gang members about military tactics, which they then use against ordinary police.
It's not about making all vets suspects. It's about the increase in recent years of white supremacists etc joining the military or recruiting vets to make use of the training.
It's a very real problem. Distorting the facts doesn't help.

Spin it any way you want to. The fact of the matter is there are groups out there who hate our current administration for reasons that are repugnant, but pretty expected from those types of people. There's potential for those people to approach veterans who have similar inclinations. That's not every veteran, it's a handful. When people call for hanging the president and congress, they take that group's aspirations at face value. Pity Bush didn't pay better attention to reports prior to 9/11.
