Thanks for this.... Pichi - my lovebird is not very well. He lost his partner and he has been so upset. It has now lost also his feathers in the last few days and i thought of putting some sounds. He has been singing all day.

I just need to see what I can do to help him. Any ideas any one. I have thought of getting a new mate but not sure that this is the best idea.

First of all take him to a certified avian vet to make sure he is not physically ill.

If he is OK then just try giving him extra attention, treats, etc. to cheer him up.

My lovebird makes totally different sounds: a high short shriek, a medium chirp, a one-note, repeated whistle, a twitter (yes, he's on Twitter!), and a tiny sweet "peeeeep?" He also grinds his beak if he's happy, or makes a low gruff sound in his throat. But he has never made this sound or the same sound as any of the videos.

I have two baby love birds. Little foot is about six months old and squirt is about eight months old. I am trying to teach them to step up and i am not having any luck. The only way the will come to me is if i pick them up. Any suggestions?

Are they handfed and tame? If not, it's going to be harder and but it's possible with patience. Lure them with millet seed on your hand so they know that hands are good and also talking, singing or reading to them helps. Once they're not afraid of your hand, start by putting your index finger just below their chest and say "step up," praise and give them treat. You can also join lovebird forums on the internet. there are tons of lovebird expert out there willing to help you.

@gbabayan My neighbor rescues birds and a lady surrendered 27 birds to her. Some were love birds and others were cockatiels. The lady that gave them up hand fed squirt and little foot. I can pick them up and they will crawl around my chest and shoulders. But they wont step up. I put their millet in the bottom of their cage. So i guess i will put it in my hands from now on. And you mentioned treats? What treats could i give them? Thanks for the help

I would limit millet only for treats so they'll look forward to training. Are they in the same cage? If they are, separate them if you want them to bond to you and not to each other. You can also take one bird at a time in a separate room for training so he/she is not distracted from the other bird.

Yes, the dark color on the beak means that he's a baby under 3 months old. Is the bird handfed? If so, he was probably just using his beak to balance himself or exploring things.

Since he's still a baby he cannot bite hard yet and this is the best time to train him to step up on your finger when you want him to come out. Give him plenty of treats like millet spray from your hand so he associate your hand with good things. Ignore him completely if he bites you.

I don't really know because I only have 2 and they grunt and chirp alike. But what I noticed is that they can teach each other new words and sounds. For example, Buckee learned how to make a sneezing sound "a-choo!". Then when we got Rexy she taught him how to say it and now they both "a-choo!" when they are angry.

Look at how the bird sits now that it's an adult. while on a perch, if it's legs are very wide apart, it's a female, close together, a male. Females do "hump" or rub on certain things. Don't know why. My females have and I've noticed that it prepares them for their egg laying

At first, we thought Buckee was a female because he was aggressive and bites alot. But now, at 7 months old, we're definite he's a he because he's been humping his toys alot and he's terrible at putting nesting material under his wings. Females are expert at that stuff.
