@Prfctdrk well the MekPak's from mektek's website give you a missile with an artemis system, its roughly 0.50 or 1.00 lockon time, and 20 dmg per salvo
@Skiitzzox220 WASD with QE for movement. and spacebar for shooting and 123... for weapon group selection. cant remember the rest but basically but everything near either the WASD or JKL so you dont have to stretch your hands or fuck with the num keys. use your thumb to aim and spacebar to fire. its awkward at first but youl get used to it :)
buy a cheap mouse with a usb jack use the mouse for the torso and weapon groups 1&2, A&D for turning, W for weapon group three, everything else at your leisure.

@ThatLameNinja my basic principles are this , start on regular (or recruit if you feel like a n00b) take the biggest mech in your arsenal for yourself, make sure you have the max amount of armour using Ferro Fibourus and not Reflective/Reactive, Use Clan Tech, Avoid using pulse lasers as they generate more heat for less damage so stick with regular lasers, And go with Dragoons (you get better access to clan tech earlier including mechs)
I'm a customization freak, and the Sunder being an OMNIMECH, the default weapons package is good for PRACTICE, but for demo, it's uninspired. Have to agree with Yapo- no use of obstacles; this is just a slugging match. Shows off LOTS of fire, but not a lot of skill.
Bump difficulty up to elite, learn to use cover and mobility, and once you can cripple an enemy with precision fire, that's where the REAL show begins!
Sadly, the best fights are too fast to be very pretty.

No use of technogenical obstacles for avoiding incoming missiles, no precise pilot cabin shooting/weapon crippling, no maneuver at all, just running and randomly crashing into buildings. I hate to say this to people, but you are a noob.

As for the weight (i should say the mass) of the gauss argument. the gauss rifle is 12 tons in MW 3 and 13 in MW4.
As for the pulse laser stuff. Why doesn't someone lower the heat output so that enough of them can be packed on a mech to actually be useful. In the Hacker run mission on New Avalon. You can easily destroy all reforcements if you use the heat cheat and load out a gladiator with er large pulesers
I started playing this again recently...and I was like oh sure I'll try online gameplay....Yeah, this new fucking mekpak update shit ruined the entire fucking game imo, they added well over 60 mechs most of which are shitty light mechs that all use the uller as a base...then no they added "Infantry"..THE FUCKING INFANTRY ARE COMPLETELY USELESS AND THEY TOO ARE BASED OFF A ULLER...When they walk..they make fucking uller noises. I quickly uninstalled the new updates made by mekpak...
@H3LPLESSALPACA yeah mektek kind of ruined the online experience by trying to revive the game...sure the new machs look cool and all but they could have used varied bases and they could have taken a sample from,say halo or metal gear for the clan infantry suits lol.
@furryjonny You need the new pack to play online, and if you get the pack then if you try making a new mech variant you have to scroll through all of the new mechs...so no matter what you do they will get in your way.
Well, that's true but it's worth it for the new versions of classics and all the new options that are there - all based off Mechwarrrior lore, so it's not like they are just making stuff up. Only thing I don't like about the pak is that the new colour schemes are inferior, everything else breathes fresh air into the game.
I remember when i played Battletech when it was here in my home town. I was capable of defeating a Mauler with a Cougar! If you really got good with the pedals for torso you where unstoppable!
was this you vs a computer cause the atlas just kept pausing and turning in a weird fashion and you almost had him at the start but u started doing weird as turning and pausing too like a noob... i dont get it then it healed so u failed theres no reason this was close

I liked MechWarrior 3 better because of the storyline and gameplay. But I loved the tournaments in Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries. I hope MW5 deals with the legal issues and releases the game already :O

@psychobomberninja Well, actually you can build a mech like that, but you really have to use mixed tech to get a Compact Gyro for extra room and Clan weapons because they're smaller. However, said hypothetical design would be ungodly slow, have thin armor, and terrible heat problems.
@Macrochenia Ok, you're talking about a mech that can hold 76 tons of anything. (Clan gauss rifles are 13 tons, Clan PPCs are 6 tons. 4x13 + 4x6 = 76) That means you would have to be able to strip the base chassis down to 24 tons, plus the jump jets, which on a 100 ton mech would probably be another 6 tons. So, you need a 100 ton mech with a chassis that weighs on 18 tons. Yea, not gonna happen. Strip all the armor, heat sinks, and speed, you might get to 32 or so, but 18 is right out.
@psychobomberninja Ever heard of Endo Steel? If you drop down to a 200 XL engine you can do it, though you've only got enough room for 2 tons of ammo after dropping some armor, and you'll be forced to stick with the default heatsinks, meaning you can only fire 1 of the PPCs at a time (BTW, Clan Gauss Rifles are 12 tons, not 13).
You CAN do it, but you're left with a gimmick mech, not a functional one.
@Macrochenia Yea, not enough of a supreme Battletech geek to fully comprehend what you just said, but I get the general idea. However, In the game Mechwarrior 4 and/or any of it's expansions, the battlemech is impossible. Besides from the weight, there sure as hell isn't any mech with enough hardpoints to fit that much weaponry. And Clan Gauss rifles are 13 tons, same weight as an Inner Sphere light gauss rifle. So, hush.
You need to work on your aim. you should aim for centre torso with those ppcs. Even when moving a good mechwarrior can shoot straight. any mech can be brought down with a simple steady hand and the right mix of piloting skill and firepower.
This is OK. In MW4 Mercs, one of the endings you take on 5 straight clan mechs in a pit, each with increasing firepower: Vulture, Thor, Mad Cat, Masakari, Daishi. Now that's a tough fight even if you're in a Fafnir. Also for this particular fight, I would have hidden behind the walls and ranged the Atlas, going back behind to wait for reload. A lot of the Atlas's firepower comes from LRMs and short range lasers/SRMs which can't hit you if you do that.
Try a daishi with three lbxac20s and hide behind the little hill in the middle and wait for them to come to you. Don´t let the last Daishi pilot have a clear shot, she´s extremely accurate and you´ll be already badly mauled.
I do that with a a 2x LBX20 Fafnir with about 8 ER MLs. But if you miss a salvo or two especially on the last two assault mechs or don't place them on the CT enough times then you've basically lost.
Well, it also depends on the loadout of said Atlas. This one has Gauss, which can be a threat in any range, as long as the pilot can aim ballistics decently. ANd I remember that fight. IT's the trial of possession, right? Good Times.
It's the trial of position I think. And yea I think the stock Atlas has just a Gauss for long range firepower, but a 3x ERPPC assault mech vs Gauss at that range is cakewalk for you.
hmm, Id suggest getting the netmech IV mod and taking this atlas on with a Crusader 8S. 2 Med lasers 2 LRM 10's and 1 heavy gauss. If you time the weapons right you never overheat.
I found Atlas pwning especially funny with a Daishi with 5 RAC2s with extra ammo and a CLRM20 for good measure. It was fun in instant action. Only trouble of RACs is that it´s pretty hard to aim at light and medium as they run around all the time.

Atlas is actually damn scary due to its ECM cloak. You only notice an Atlas in the heat of battle when 2 PPCs and a Gauss slug slams into your mech. Ouch.
i realise that my lancemates in campaign game suck at using the sunder, and they always survive better in a victor. i guess it's 'cause the victor has a very small profile compared to other big fat assaults. and just like the atlas, the sunder's arms are a big weakness. big visible targets with most of the mec's weapons on them.
it is free basically. You can dl the torrent and a crack. Then enable Daemon tools disk protection emulation like safedisk and u can run it thru the internet...all official servers. Don't ask me how it works but it does.
Y in this game is the center torso of a mech so easy to hit? cuz srsly, it seems that no matter the angle the CT is hit...ive had at times the rest of my mechs armor is topped off and the center torso is critical, its like wtf lol

I like the orignial MW2 mech graphics better then the MW4 models....MW4 models are kinda boxy looking, to me they look like higher detailed MW2 models, The Atlas in Mw4 sucks, its weapon types and the slots it has dont work well for me and the weapons I want to put on it haha, same w/ the Daishi.
You're half-right. It was done to try and lure in a less experienced crowd, and also to preclude making ridiculous game-breaking weapons combos.
The system isn't ENTIRELY flawed - you SHOULDN'T be able to turn an Atlas into nothing but LRM racks painlessly; that's why omnis got so much hype.
I'd ideally want a system that acknowledges that (via more difficult/costly modifications to non-omnis), but that still allows it without the "DURP, THIS IS A BALLISTIC SLOT" nonsense.
not that i mind the non-rpg players getting involved, but please dont dumb it down. its like flight sim's you dont dumb it down the the masses..this part of what makes it challanging.
Finally someone who agrees. Not only is it the ugliest mech in the planet, but it is a piece of junk in game compared to the cooler and more powerful clan mechs. And even more infuriating is its remarkable ability to find idiot pilots in the cinematics and conveniently kill them with ease in a desperate attempt by its creators to cement itself as a powerful machine.
well the Clan tech is better hands down ..but you probly dont play the RPG this comes from..if you did you would understand why the atlas is what it is.

@furryjonny You need the new pack to play online, and if you get the pack then if you try making a new mech variant you have to scroll through all of the new mechs...so no matter what you do they will get in your way.

Well, that's true but it's worth it for the new versions of classics and all the new options that are there - all based off Mechwarrrior lore, so it's not like they are just making stuff up. Only thing I don't like about the pak is that the new colour schemes are inferior, everything else breathes fresh air into the game.

You could have easily taken the Atlas down in just a few volleys if you had used the zoom feature.
I basically never turn the zoom off when I'm battling.
I remember using the Shadowcat all the way up to the third Chapter of missions just for a challenge. :D

I remember when i played Battletech when it was here in my home town. I was capable of defeating a Mauler with a Cougar! If you really got good with the pedals for torso you where unstoppable!

I liked MechWarrior 3 better because of the storyline and gameplay. But I loved the tournaments in Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries. I hope MW5 deals with the legal issues and releases the game already :O

Yea, any mech with jump jets, 4 gauss rifles, and 4 PPC's would lay waste to anything. Too bad there isn't a mech that can hold all of that....

@psychobomberninja Well, actually you can build a mech like that, but you really have to use mixed tech to get a Compact Gyro for extra room and Clan weapons because they're smaller. However, said hypothetical design would be ungodly slow, have thin armor, and terrible heat problems.

@Macrochenia Ok, you're talking about a mech that can hold 76 tons of anything. (Clan gauss rifles are 13 tons, Clan PPCs are 6 tons. 4x13 + 4x6 = 76) That means you would have to be able to strip the base chassis down to 24 tons, plus the jump jets, which on a 100 ton mech would probably be another 6 tons. So, you need a 100 ton mech with a chassis that weighs on 18 tons. Yea, not gonna happen. Strip all the armor, heat sinks, and speed, you might get to 32 or so, but 18 is right out.

If you drop down to a 200 XL engine you can do it, though you've only got enough room for 2 tons of ammo after dropping some armor, and you'll be forced to stick with the default heatsinks, meaning you can only fire 1 of the PPCs at a time (BTW, Clan Gauss Rifles are 12 tons, not 13).
You CAN do it, but you're left with a gimmick mech, not a functional one.

@Macrochenia Yea, not enough of a supreme Battletech geek to fully comprehend what you just said, but I get the general idea. However, In the game Mechwarrior 4 and/or any of it's expansions, the battlemech is impossible. Besides from the weight, there sure as hell isn't any mech with enough hardpoints to fit that much weaponry. And Clan Gauss rifles are 13 tons, same weight as an Inner Sphere light gauss rifle. So, hush.

You need to work on your aim. you should aim for centre torso with those ppcs. Even when moving a good mechwarrior can shoot straight. any mech can be brought down with a simple steady hand and the right mix of piloting skill and firepower.

This is OK. In MW4 Mercs, one of the endings you take on 5 straight clan mechs in a pit, each with increasing firepower: Vulture, Thor, Mad Cat, Masakari, Daishi. Now that's a tough fight even if you're in a Fafnir. Also for this particular fight, I would have hidden behind the walls and ranged the Atlas, going back behind to wait for reload. A lot of the Atlas's firepower comes from LRMs and short range lasers/SRMs which can't hit you if you do that.

Try a daishi with three lbxac20s and hide behind the little hill in the middle and wait for them to come to you. Don´t let the last Daishi pilot have a clear shot, she´s extremely accurate and you´ll be already badly mauled.

I do that with a a 2x LBX20 Fafnir with about 8 ER MLs. But if you miss a salvo or two especially on the last two assault mechs or don't place them on the CT enough times then you've basically lost.

Well, it also depends on the loadout of said Atlas. This one has Gauss, which can be a threat in any range, as long as the pilot can aim ballistics decently. ANd I remember that fight. IT's the trial of possession, right? Good Times.

hmm, Id suggest getting the netmech IV mod and taking this atlas on with a Crusader 8S. 2 Med lasers 2 LRM 10's and 1 heavy gauss. If you time the weapons right you never overheat.

I found Atlas pwning especially funny with a Daishi with 5 RAC2s with extra ammo and a CLRM20 for good measure. It was fun in instant action. Only trouble of RACs is that it´s pretty hard to aim at light and medium as they run around all the time.

Atlas is actually damn scary due to its ECM cloak. You only notice an Atlas in the heat of battle when 2 PPCs and a Gauss slug slams into your mech. Ouch.

i realise that my lancemates in campaign game suck at using the sunder, and they always survive better in a victor. i guess it's 'cause the victor has a very small profile compared to other big fat assaults. and just like the atlas, the sunder's arms are a big weakness. big visible targets with most of the mec's weapons on them.

I like the orignial MW2 mech graphics better then the MW4 models....MW4 models are kinda boxy looking, to me they look like higher detailed MW2 models, The Atlas in Mw4 sucks, its weapon types and the slots it has dont work well for me and the weapons I want to put on it haha, same w/ the Daishi.

You're half-right. It was done to try and lure in a less experienced crowd, and also to preclude making ridiculous game-breaking weapons combos.
The system isn't ENTIRELY flawed - you SHOULDN'T be able to turn an Atlas into nothing but LRM racks painlessly; that's why omnis got so much hype.
I'd ideally want a system that acknowledges that (via more difficult/costly modifications to non-omnis), but that still allows it without the "DURP, THIS IS A BALLISTIC SLOT" nonsense.
