Second temple treasures were definitely captured by the romans and destroyed for coin. Go to rome and look at the carvings on the Triumph arch -- the record is very clear. No, I don't think the temple treasures will be found, despite what Christians want to believe regarding their second coming, which must be preceded by the rebuilding of the temple, or so I gather.

The ark of the Covennant was never in the second temple (Nehemiah's temple; which Herod the Great rebuilt ).

The Babylonians did not find the Ark in the first temple (Solomon's temple) when they captured the city. Nor did they find the solid gold candle holder (menorah). All of the brass was captured from the temple was brought to Babylon.  (The Bible contains an inventory of the captured goods and does not mention anything gold as being taken from the temple.)
