  • you need a new assistant.

  • these guys seem soft... good lesson though

  • Thats pretty slick

  • 0-5MINUTES VERY GOOD CUT KICK LESSON ,

THERE ARE MANY MANY MORE GOOD USES THAT COME ABOUT IF YOU MASTER THE CUT KICK AND ITS VARIETY AND VARIATIONS ..

FROWARD LEG QUICK KICK TO PLANT THEN PUNCH WITH BACK MOST HAND ..

THAT IS JUST MY FAVORITE OF THE MULTITUDE OF MOVES AVALIABLE ..

  • he said punch him harder.. so PUNCH HIM HARDER!

  • is there any footage of this counter being done in an actual fight...

  • Sweeps have been around for a long time but this is the first one I'v seen that could work.... Great move chap!

  • Great counters, Dr. Yamasaki.

I was an amateur boxer, and I take an active interest in learning new techniques from boxing, and learning about martial arts in general. I like the 45 degree angle step to the right with the right foot, that is a good technique.

Of course in boxing, power is derived from footwork and hip rotation, so there is no sweeping leg techniques, but a 45 degree angle step followed by a shift in weight to orthodox stance and a Cross would work. Thanks for the tips!

  • I really liked that ankle kick do you think you could use that against most other rear hand attacks or will other punches not produce enough weight on their front leg

  • @TreeChopperDon It will work any time that your opponent puts a lot of weight on their front leg. However you need to be careful if you notice that your opponent turns his lead foot inward. The technique will work but you will kick shin to shin which hurts more than kicking shin to ankle.

  • @TakingItToTheMMAT You guys are EXCELLENT teachers!

  • @publicatdamagnificen thank you. We appreciate that.

  • love that combo, this is great thanks alot!!

  • im sorry for asking,i really like your videos

but have you ever foght a MMA,K1 fight yousrself?

not that it matter iam just curious.

and if you have can you find it on the net.

  • this over hand right you don't just throw it like that! most times you step out with your lead foot so it lines up better watch how Fedor or chuck throws that it a counter not a jab that means you cant see it coming and it's used against taller people .. I know coz its one of my ass woopin specialties..

  • Awesome counters. I'm going to see if I can use the linebacker technique during striking class this weekend.

  • @iApna Thanks for the feedback iApna. Join us over at DamageControlMMA,com/forum and let us know how things turned out. We'd love to hear how your experiment went and offer any details we can to help you get it working even better.

  • I tend to back pedal on overhand rights and straight and then jab straight

  • now are you guys kicking the ankle with the instep or shin

  • line backer to the overhand right is a very effective tactic

we have one guy training for his first muay thai fight with a killer overhand right

he knocks people out on a daily basis with this

so far I haven't found any counter for that

  • what if i hit right handed but kick left footed and use orthodox stance. can you show some ways that imprivse for the awkwardness of combos that end with a rght kick by some how making it flow into a left kick. or do you just advise me to train kicking with my right

  • thanks for the great info. i will try the tech. out.

  • cool, ill record tonight and load up tomarow but know i hate being on camera so this is only to share knowledge haha! ill load up a counter to the overhand right with a straight right hand and also one i love with a round kick to the mid section, both leave me with a lot of follow up options and not too many options for my opponent which i enjoy, i hope you like them! later

  • lol i didnt mean to be rude or anything i been fighting for 6 yrs now and think this has application i just like simpler stuff, BUT options are very good to have, people get used to what your doing if its simple too, so like i said i see application for this, BUT again i would love to show u a counter punch and kick that are really easy to use and are fast! again i meant no disrespect to what youre doin or your knowledge. id enjoy loading up a few vids for you to check out, give me your opinion!

  • We'd love to see them.

  • too fancey, i see the application, but you have to move too much, moving takes time, and who really sees a over hand right comming from anyone whos good with it. fighting people who cant fight is one thing, you can do all sorts of jackie chan shit to a guy on the street but a seasoned fighter will not show you a overhand right before he throws it, and if he does it right its too fast to react like that! just my thoughts on its PRO fighting applications, not street applications

  • Hey Brian Yamasaki i'm an mma fighter quick question the first move isn't that risky if they throw a a overhand into a left hook? I usually just move or weave underneath seems a lil safer then goin into the direction of his left hand for a hook.

  • Anything can be risky do to dumb luck, a fighter who scouts you and learns your tendencies, and or poor shot selection.

However, there are a number of safety measures. 1. If you angle to your right properly, you'll tend to muffle the left hook.

    2. If you practice good form on the kick (see our Basic Thai Kick video) your right hand should be up to protect against the left.

    3. If your Ankle Kick does it's job you'll take your opponent's base out, and limit his ability to throw a good left hand.

  • Also, if you don't have the striking skills, simply use the Hockey Check/Linebacker instead.

  • And you can definitely bob and weave. That works fine. You can also move away, snap back or do any number of the other techniques shown in this three part series.

The basic yin and yang rule is, the more ventured, the more gained, the less ventured, the less gained.

  • i see how it could work for sure... but its way harder to land then a simple bob and a straight right. the over hand is never ever set up by anyone GOOD so you see it comming either, use that on chuck liddel lol it doesnt work that slow or like that, it may work at slow speed, but a overhand right can come FAST at you, and stepping to the hook and hoping you bring the sweep with enough speed power and REACTION, to make it work is askin a lot when you are fighting a seasoned fighter.

  • The leg kick was more with the foot instead of the shin which is preferred , but foot kick is better than no kick.Plus iv never seen anyone sweep from an overhand right in MT.But i can see the logic there

  • The linebacker counter is excellent.

  • This series is AWESOME!!! You guys are great with every detail!!! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Great demo guys !

Rather than dragging your kicking (left) foot along the ground (as in 1:08), why not raise your kick a bit, and strike his inner left knee ?

    Thanks again !

  • Great question. You can definitely kick the inner thigh (kicking the knee is considered a dirty tactic). But essentially the rule is, the lower on the leg you kick, the more potential to disrupt the base. The higher up, the more painful... in general, but there are always exceptions to the rule.

  • how can you do that with a right hand lead?

  • Try using the overhand left shown in the advanced overhand right counters. It will be used the same whether you use an orthodox or southpaw stance.
