Do they give you any kind of statistics on the horses? Cause in real horse races you bet based on the information you have gathered about the horse and jockey. If it's just random betting on a toy, well than this would be incredibly stupid.

@emokTheKid Today, there are actually 8 horses (ponies) native to Japan. They are the Hokkaido(Dosanko), Kiso, Misaki, Miyako, Noma, Tokara, Taisho(Taishuh/Taisu), and Yonaguni. All are now rare, with some only having individual numbers in the double digits...It is believed that the Kiso is Japan's only living indigenous breed and the Misaki are designated as a National Treasure and are now feral.

I am surprised you were able to record this. When I was in Japan this past July my wife and I weren't even allowed to take pictures. Were you doing this in secret or did they allow you to do this? Also, I saw one of these when it was packed and people take this stuff seriously. It's amazing to see how much money people go through on these machines.

We have the exact same game at the casino here in Ottawa, Canada (Casino du Lac-Leamy). I don't like to gamble, so it's my favourite game, because you can bet as little as $0.05. I'm guessing the casino imported this awesome game from Japan, although they went to great lengths to hide that fact. Now I know.

There were similar horse races reproductions at fun-fairs here many years ago, but nothing so sophisticated, the details of miniatures horses and their movements are incredible. A quiet and funny place to spend a rainy day.

there's a Derby Owners Club game at the arcade over here but no one plays it. i've played a few times but you really need to put time and money into it to rank the horses up and whatnot. although, I have seen a guy with a book of stats and horse cards sitting there, maybe he's a former gambler :P
