The Old Ones only managed to make them take a temporary retirement from the galaxy, while screwing things up in the process. There's also nothing stopping Necrons from adapting and creating new breeds. Just look at Pariahs.

@MsGhoulz Necron lore changes from the new codex are horrid: They killed off the Old ones, no pariahs, they don't serve the C'tan (necrons defeated the C'tan after the war with the Old ones), upper echelons of the nobility kept their free will/personality.

It would by great, if Tau had won in that time, but its not much likely to happen. Yeah, i men - they ARE quite warpproof and have f*kin amazing tech (compared to empire without squats) but they numbers are too few.

It took the imperium fifteen Space Marine task forces and elements of the Imperial Navy to destroy it. A string of destroyed and crippled starships and millions of casualties. A third of the entire Imperial Navy destroyed.

@ShadowNetBG Tyranids could quite possibly win. Regardless of what we've seen so far, Tyranids are always evolving and what we've seen so far is supposedly only a fraction of the entire swarm. They've wiped out an Eldar craftworld, they gave the Ultramarines a run for their money... They'll get stronger. Possibly even evolve to destroy the Necrons, though I believe Tyranid vs Necron is practically an impossible battle currently.
@jjrudki Well, think about it, they aren't endless, there is an exact amount of tyranids, not chaos though. They may run out of CSM, but they can still produce daemons and warp spells, though if tyranids exterminate all human and eldar life, or any life remotely human, Chaos would gradually disappear since it feeds on intelligent life with primitve feelings so it can't feed of tyranids. And I mean, Chaos are energy matter, it's not physical, it will always exist if intelligent life does!

The Chaos Gods do not wage war with some ''almighty'' God, but against each other. In Satanism, you have Lucifer, while in Chaos you have hundreds of Gods (of which there are 4 notable ones). Hell is more of a flaming wasteland, while the Warp is more like an endless sea of energy. THe only thing in common is that the souls that end up there.

What's not they have in common is that Chaos have no head god...
@magnolia5 the forces of Chaos owe just as much influence to the works of H.P Lovecraft as they do with Zoroastrian and Abrahamic myth. The whims of the Chaos Gods are ultimately unknowable and it is highly unlikely that they see the materium as anything but a food source, much like how the Great Old Ones see mankind in lovecraft's works.

Necrons almost never leave anything behind after a skirmish. Due to fallen crons being airlifted and sent home for repairs.
Orks can bash as many Necrons as they like. 100,000 slain Ork doesn't compare to a 100 damaged Necrons later repaired and sent back to the fight.

@AdeptusAntares The Necrons crushed the Tyranids in the only fluff battle they had over a Tau Sept World. (of course, the Tyranid Splinter fleet was outnumbered by the Necrons...) So don't be so quick to say that the Tyranids are the more dangerous. In fact, I'd say that if the Necrons were all awakened, they'd be a bigger threat than the whole of the Tyranid race.

It took the imperium fifteen Space Marine task forces and elements of the Imperial Navy to destroy it. A string of destroyed and crippled starships and millions of casualties. A third of the entire Imperial Navy destroyed.

@ShadowNetBG Tyranids could quite possibly win. Regardless of what we've seen so far, Tyranids are always evolving and what we've seen so far is supposedly only a fraction of the entire swarm. They've wiped out an Eldar craftworld, they gave the Ultramarines a run for their money... They'll get stronger. Possibly even evolve to destroy the Necrons, though I believe Tyranid vs Necron is practically an impossible battle currently.

@jjrudki Well, think about it, they aren't endless, there is an exact amount of tyranids, not chaos though. They may run out of CSM, but they can still produce daemons and warp spells, though if tyranids exterminate all human and eldar life, or any life remotely human, Chaos would gradually disappear since it feeds on intelligent life with primitve feelings so it can't feed of tyranids. And I mean, Chaos are energy matter, it's not physical, it will always exist if intelligent life does!

I was lurking on Guild wars wiki. The usual stuff. Jumping at any of the chances to flame at Arenanet.
The difference was that I played Dawn Of War 2 beforehand, so my blood pressure was skyrocket.

The Chaos Gods do not wage war with some ''almighty'' God, but against each other. In Satanism, you have Lucifer, while in Chaos you have hundreds of Gods (of which there are 4 notable ones). Hell is more of a flaming wasteland, while the Warp is more like an endless sea of energy. THe only thing in common is that the souls that end up there.

@ND999taufan Though Satan are accompanied by more than just lucifer, you have Belzebub, Bale, Mephisto, Leviathan and more, and we don't know what hell looks like or if it exists, and about "gay-ass angels"... The story between the humans and chaos, is almost like god and satan, the humans have the emperor and then one of his sons (angels in this case), made a revolution (he were kinda forced by chaos), and left for chaos.
What's not they have in common is that Chaos have no head god...

@magnolia5 the forces of Chaos owe just as much influence to the works of H.P Lovecraft as they do with Zoroastrian and Abrahamic myth. The whims of the Chaos Gods are ultimately unknowable and it is highly unlikely that they see the materium as anything but a food source, much like how the Great Old Ones see mankind in lovecraft's works.

We would be humans, but without the herecy. Like humans... but better. Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne! Death to the false emperor! SEND US INTO BATTLE!
