  • There are quite a lot of things you don't see either. Including a lot of valuable questions you do not ask. Laying yourself down to the fact that all people are selfish is in itself a selfish decision. Since all you would have to do is do what's necessary in accordance to "god" But the thing is, that very thing which you are doing is basically intentionally ignoring problems because they have little to do with you. and "you cant fix it" right...its just who we are...(lies and excuses)

  • A 'friend' forced sex on me then demanded I abort the babies, twins. Yes really. That person is now famous.

  • Selfishness, is there anything more good?

  • servant is forced not to act on selfishness.

  • If not come wash my car or take me out on the town :

  • EVERY SINGLE PERSON IS SELFISH :)

  • Ah, the Holy Spirit is capable of great, GREAT things! Good loving message, I praise God for it! :)

  • I object to one thing said by Mark - He implies that Christians should have children.

  • @Lisztman88 they should. real christians should if they want to learn how not to be selfish. If your spouse wants children but you decide you dont want to. Selfish....Having kids will really show how to be a servant and how to be unselfish.

  • @crakerjack3 That's something you decide before marriage then. I believe there are other ways to learn to not be selfish outside of having children.

  • i believe there has to be an equilibrium being ALL SELFISH is bad and being ALL GIVING is bad. Both extremes are unsustainable. there has to be a balance on things, sometimes you have to become SELFISH to be able to GIVE later, and sometimes you give because you are selfish for example when you give a hug to somebody and they feel good you are being GIVING but SELFISH because you also took pleasure out of it.

  • i would really like to see this guy in person.

  • EVERYONE is selfish. Its the human condition. What you need is knowledge, experience, a sense of perspective and most of all a sense of humanity. What you DON'T need is convoluted religious 'education'. People like Driscoll here have simply learned the oldest political trick in the book: pray on people's inherent guilt, bring it out of them, encourage them to feel it but not understand it then you can get them to believe and agree with pretty much anything you want.

    Do not fall for it!!

  • its kinda selfish just to spend your whole life devoted to religion, cuz you cant have your own morals and need to follow something like sheep in a heard to get them, and with scare tactics used to make sure you dont do otherwise, all for YOUR eternal happiness. is happiness here on earth in the present? dumb christians, why cant you accept the fact that there are unanswerable question about the history of the world instead choosing some ridiculous religion to ease your conscience

  • Maybe someone can help me out. I'm just curious as to whether it is possible at all to be " married in your hearts ". The actual ceremony isnt recorded much in the bible, help please.

  • This is a good message. I never really thought about it much, but I guess I am pretty selfish.

  • selfishness = seeing other people take care of their own needs and not the needs of others... we'd like those people to take care of other peoples needs

  • being selfish is not a good thing to say its natural people are always tranna take evil and make it seems good. and we are not born pure and loving. you have to learn to become pure and loving we are not born with it we are born with bunch of evil desires you dont have to teach a child how to be mean, rude, selfish or liers beacuse we are born with evil in us. but at some point with the help of god we have 2 fight those evil desire n put godly desire in us

  • i find it super strange that the video froze at 2:01 and mark is looking me rite in the eye with that piercing stare

  • @anonymousQ45 Maybe the Spirit was calling you out?

  • @djking2d lololol

  • Humans are born pure, loving and selfish. I don't see a problem with that.

What I see a problem with are those institutions - or simply people - who seem to believe they somehow speak for more than just themselves.

    I am selfish.

    Sometimes I serve.

    Always for selfish reasons.

Learn to distinguish selfishness from egoism and see which is natural and which is judgemental and destructive.

  • This is great! He describes the flock very well!

However we are selfish by nature...gods nature. But the word selfishness is just described wrong. You are not you without your environment and circle(s). So ones selfishness actually includes a grand amount.

Selfishness is good if you realize it helps everyone/thing that make you who you are.

  • A wise man once said that Human beings are created out of the heart of God - which is love. So we aren't pure evil. We are something beautiful and lovely that has been twisted and marred....but we will be right again one day...if we want I think...

  • i recommend this full commentary from Mark which was very informative...

  • 0:11 I keep thinking that's Grace.

  • DUDE does Mark post whole sermons ?

  • @lockdown260 You can find it on the Mars Hill Church in Seattle website

  • @lockdown260 Yeah lol under the video if you press the little tab that says "show more" there is a link to the sermon

  • All human beings are sinfully selfish!

  • I'm not a religious person, but I very much agree with what you say here!

  • I'm not a religious person, but I very much agree with what you say here!

  • "Your code begins by damning man as evil, then demands that he practice a good which it defines as impossible for him to practice. It demands, as his first proof of virtue, that he accept his own depravity without proof. It demands that he start, not with a standard of value, but with a standard of evil, which is himself, by means of which he is then to define the good: the good is that which he is not." See the contradiction!

  • Admitting I am selfish was a big start on my path of spiritual and emotional growth. So he is right about us. We need to recognize these human conditions. Where I draw the line with Organized religion is where they say: you are here God is out there, really upset at your performance and if you come to my church, give lots of money and repent maybe God will love you. This is the way the church has controlled man for eons and it is wrong.

  • this guys if full of crap

  • @henrikstaaf Nice articulate mature rebuttal... ;)

    not.

  • @LinkD3 Sometimes you gotta call something out for what it is... come on.."everyone is evil". that's a load of crap

  • @henrikstaaf

Thank you for proving what he says in this video true.

  • @LinkD3 how did I do that?

  • @LinkD3 How did I prove what he said was true??, im curios to know

  • @LinkD3 mister LinkD3, Im still waiting for you to tell me why what I said proved the guy to be true.. or...perhaps you dont have an answer for me.

  • @academiccuriosity You should look into early childhood research on selfishness.

  • Selfishness is a virtue, defined as a love of one's own life, which means a desire to live. A selfless man does not want to live. If Mark Driscoll followed his own morality, he would sell all he owns and give it, just as he asks others to give him their hard earned money. He does not. He is a hypocrite, coward, and cannibal, feasting on the work of his congregation to feed himself.

  • @academiccuriosity are you aware the mark driscoll didnt collect a salary for the first 3 years of mars hill. And that all the profits from the books that he writes goes to the mars hill church.

  • On point!!

  • If were all selfish, than so must God be, because he made us in his own image. He probably just wanted to entertain himself by creating the universe and all. I am selfish and I like it :)

  • @vitaminsandstds God created us good, but we in adam, choose to eat from the tree of good AND evil, so that could be where the selfishnes comes from?

  • @LocoShock90 Personally, I like to take all sides into a rational point of view, "good" and "evil". If this selfishness includes eating from both trees, then I am selfish because I wanted a more enlightened perspective. Our 'punishment' for original sin is that we have to take care of ourselves, so is this interest in selfishness? And if God isnt 100% serving us, then why 100% serve Him?

  • @LocoShock90 Adam sought knowledge and God punished him by making him take care of himself. Big deal. Is selfishness REALLY a bad thing if all it is, is wanting to see some reward for your actions? Even if it is that fuzzy feeling from helping people, you're still selfish because you still want to know what you're doing.

  • Self projection. People who don't know God are selfish.

  • AMEN!

  • real talk...

  • No wonder Christians are so screwed up.

  • My god... why i am so selfish...(SELFISHNESS=EVIL, SELF DESTRUCT, WAR!!!)

I am japanese so maybe i have a strong spirit of selfish SAMURAI

  • @MegaTigerlili 利己的な侍は矛盾語法 じゃないか?侍魂があれば、何よりも使える者じゃないか?

  • @losthaole87 burn...

  • @MegaTigerlili むじゅん

  • Love is the value one gains from another man for his or her virtues. The man who exchanges justice for "mercy", selfish love for promiscuous "love" of ALL humanity, and his own desires for the desires of a priest who claims to hear the spirit of god is guilty of invalidating his reason and destroying the values necessary for human life. Knowledge is gained only through reason, wealth only through productive work, and happiness only though independence.

  • I think I have a problem. When I am constantly in a state of "can I do this, is this right? etc."

I almost feel as if I am not living, but am storing up laws for myself.

  • do you have a relationship with God? It's easier to ask him to guide you, that way you don't have to worry about rules because everything comes from the heart.

  • I am selfish, but to an extent. Not to the point when I don't give ANYTHING to anybody or care about anyone but myself. My father does that with us and I asked my mother would kill me if I ever ended up like him. I think that kind of selfishness is just wrong.

  • I couldn't live with myself if I become selfish.

  • i am sorry to hear that, for all humanity are selfish. There aren't really degrees (as far as sin is concerned) of selfishness, you either are or are not.

  • this lecture was genius and it REALLY touched my heart, thank you for posting this!

  • All human beings are naturally selfish!

  • Amen! I cant understand people who honestly think they are born good.

  • @LinkD3 Yeah me too,, little kids are the devil

  • @LinkD3 Because when God created man he said it was very good. And how could a perfect and good God make something evil and imperfect? That would make God not perfect if he created imperfect things. He created beings who choose to do bad but also have the ability to choose good.

  • @TheCumberlands34

Ummmm no. God made everything good but you cant have good without evil. light doesn't exist without darkness. So while HE created everything good he gave us free will and the ability to leave His presence. Evil is simply the absence of God. And that's what we chose. God didn't have to "Make" us evil, he simply gave us free will to choose Him or emptiness. Have you ever actually read Scripture at a serious study level front to back? Because it would appear not... :/

  • @LinkD3 You just said the same thing I said. You asked why people think they are good. People are good because God created us in his image. I said we have a choice in our actions and then you said the same thing and accused me of not reading scripture. So color me confused.

  • @TheCumberlands34 People are average.; some good some bad, some in the middle. That's a law - the same way that half the people in the world are below average intelligence.

I would suggest that a person's IQ is questionable if he has faith in a book of myths.

This preacher seems intelligent, and yet he talks about magical happenings reported by superstitious people.

    Where's the sense in that?

Live this life, make the best of it for those around you, then die, and return to the stars.

    Fantastic!

  • @LinkD3

your kidding then you dont understand yourself

  • @LinkD3 Just watch people in everyday situations. People are both good and bad. They've done scientific studies which show that toddlers and infants--children too young to have been taught morality and selflessness--exhibit those very virtues. Then, of course, people also lie, cheat, and steal. If you say people are only bad, you're missing the other 50% or so of human action.

  • @LinkD3 ... there are NO GOOD PPL.

  • @Birkosteve not true

  • @Birkosteve becouse everyone tends toward lazyness and negativity..someone has to take effort to iprove. And maybe selfishness its just a smaller perspective! Becosuse if you widen your perspective you realize if you give other you have gived to yourself. Becouse you will recive that back, the other one will ove you back. Positive Karma. What you give out, taht will come back to you. So you can grow by giving out love, but you can shrink if you miss the opportunity to recive back.

  • @Birkosteve

YEP. i love you and want to give you my love. i want to share my greatest gift with you,i want to give my heart and soul with you.

but if you don't give me your love in return i'm definitely gonna take my love away and give it someone else.

  • @Birkosteve and these days most people are totally arrogant-you cannot tell them anything-even if for their own good!

  • @Birkosteve They are also naturally altruistic. They're both. They've done scientific studies.

  • right on!

  • Thanks a million...
