Why did he say "Play something called Maggot Brain" and then play "Little Wing"... They are from Seattle aren't they... Just like the late great James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix.
"It was later reported that Mike was hospitalized after the two Milwaukee shows due to dehydration and exhaustion." that's what happens when you try to cover Hendrix and Hazel in the same night...
@Funkdogg Jimi was getting into way more funky stuff by 70. Surely he would have been a major factor in the growing funk scene. As I understand it his intention was to do more collaborative large band style things much like George Clinton did with his massive P Funk band.
@BollocksUtwat ;) yes i had a very cheap cd with jimi tracks on it that i never knew and there were some funky tunes on it. but the greatest thing about jimi to me is that he made such a great impact on the world in just a couple years. that's one of the reasons why he is the greatest

This is not a Jimi Hendrix song FYI. The first part is, but the second part is Funkadelic's Maggot Brain. If you read the story of this song, the lead of Funk told the guitarist to play like his mother just died and he played this Jimi inspired piece.
@srjndots definitely the sickest moment. You should check out Jimmy Herring with Widespread Panic on this same song -- I saw them play it in Wyoming this summer. Herring is a master.
I think MIke is incredibly underrated. Everyone was saying that Slash was the next Jimi back in the 80s. The truth is, if anyone was going to be the next Jimi, it was Mike. Check out Yellow Ledbetter and Alive by Pearl Jam. McCready is amazing.
Its not a perfect match to Maggot Brain, and it doesn't have to be. The guy has somes kills and he made the song his own (to coin a phrase)...and live. I think Eddie Hazel would be proud. Great Job!
i know its almost fuckin sacrelige to say this, but this version of little wing stands way way up there on the right hand of god, man! jimi meet ur son, mike! eternity fuckin meltdown.... :D
