  • that right there.... timeless

  • Eric

My daughter and I love this play.

  • Beautiful arrangement and playing. Open G. Jimmy Driftwood used this melody to write Johnny Horton's hit, "The Battle of New Orleans".

  • Oh yes, the bird , your smile ... and this wonderful tune. Put me into another world ... thank you!

  • hey eric...was looking at a publication of Ronna's and thought i'd plug in a YouTube search, just for the halibut..even though i've been learning tunes on YT never thought of looking for you here!!! so good to see you, even though it's only cyberspace...all best, deb v (Camden, ME)

  • Amazing playing and what a perfectly timed bird whistle at the end there.

    Thanks.

  • glad you like the arrangement. That bird always gets me too. You can here them in the background with some of the other tunes , but not on Q like that!

  • thanks very much! I'm coming back with some new stuff.

  • Hello Eric, I bought your CD 'Black Key Notes' a couple of years ago and fell in love with this piece! Great to find you on YT!

Do you use a Parlor Guitar? Froggy Bottom? Somehow looks like it. Anyway .. great sounding axe ;)

    Kalle

  • Eric, so nice to see you on YT. I loved the years at the Old Town School together. Hearing and seeing the tunes again will have me retuning tonight and working on and enjoying 8th and Jan once more. Thanks

  • One of the most important things I have done as a fledgling player was to drive to Chicago to get a lesson from Eric and to watch him do a show. I have been an admirer of his playing for quite some time. It took me until just now to see if he has posted anything here. I am glad I looked. Good job Eric and I will continue to keep my Eye out for that "next" CD. In the meantime, Black Key Blues continues to inpire. Play on my brother. Chris from Minnesota.

  • Say, what tuning is this? DADGAD? or drop D?

(sounds like DADGAD) Good musicality. and nice not to have any Bar Chords !!

  • Wow, I was searching for banjo versions of 8th of January and found this. I may change how I play this tune. Thanks

  • absolutely inspirational :-))

  • Holy smokes! Good playin' mate!

  • Quite unorthodox guitar position.

Remarkably relaxed player. I know some guys who attended a workshop with him recently and they were very happy to have met him.

Hopefully I'll have the chance to learn from him, too, eventually!

  • An artist! What a fine arrangement, gads, at no piece of cake! (It doesn't seem like you get to CA often, but I'm keeping an eye out.) Really nice arrangement and playing.
