  • I actually have a serious question. I've just started guitar and I've listening to bands like Exivious, Animals as Leaders, Spiral Architect and Dream theater.

Do you have a course or a video on jazz/metal/rock fusion?

Is it possible sound jazzy, bluesy and metal at the same time?

  • Is it true that Michael Angelo sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his guitar playing abilities?

  • @CrispyTurkey Nawww

  • @dmarks1 Is it true that he's son of Chuck Norris and Yngwie Malmsteen?

  • Doug, you've sad that you can get me from where I am now to where I want to go. Well, can you teach me to play guitar like Radomir Mihailovic Tocak (search on the you tube for the songs like: Ulazak U Harem; Blues U Parku; Zajdi,Zajdi. He composed that. Or you can just search for SMAK because that is the band he formed)? If you can teach me to play guitar like R. M. Tocak I salute you!

  • @RMTocakforever I can give you the tools to become an excellent guitarist, the tools for you to become the absolute best player that you can become. If you want to play like R M Tocak that's your choice. You can use these tools to move in that direction but I would prefer that you become something original. Use your influences to create something new and different. I can help you with that.

  • @UnderbiteProductions I don't believe that Kurt Cobain ever "mastered" the guitar. I doubt if he could identify more than a couple of scales. I could never teach anybody to be Kurt Cobain and I don't believe he had much interest in learning many of the things that I teach. There are very few truly unique musical artists. I can teach technique. I can explain basic theory. I can't give you artistic talent.

  • 69.70? >_< God this is going to hurt my parents in the wallet, but it's worth it.

  • @nintendoandsegafan1 70 dollars is actually pretty cheap... Do you have any idea how much material you get for that price, worth a long time to master everything he has to offer

  • Well may only problem is that I play the guitar only when i am drunk, well that is the reason way i never made any progress with may skills !

  • @nepoereh You're having fun though aren't you? That's what counts.

  • Ordered today, I can't wait to start learning! Took bass lessons for a couple years and have been playing for about 5 years now, guitar for about a year. But I'm ready to start getting more serious with guitar and that means learning the basics. I got to start somewhere.. being self taught is hard so I've decided to start learning and stop with the "I should take lessons" and think "I will". I read the blog about motivation and it has really changed my perspective. Thanks again.Cant wait to shred

  • Bought metal method guitar 5 months ago...it helped me more than any video or lesson i watched on youtube and other free internet lesson! Awesome job Doug thanks a lot.

  • @dertysouthside You're welcome. Am glad that my course has worked for you. Have you joined our forum yet?

  • I realy Want this lessons but my english is not perfect and i don't understand some words and later i can't understand the lesson there is subtitles?

  • @crytecpro No, sorry there aren't any subtitles.

  • Hi Doug,

    Just a serious question,

Can playing with feeling be taught by your course?

I am old school non-shredder-Zep,Rhoads etc.

    The lessons look interesting!

    Thank you,

    Chris

  • @hiroku1324 - The lessons give you all of the tools to "play with feeling" but feeling can't be taught. To play with "feeling" means simply to express yourself. I can't teach someone to communicate but I can give them the tools to expand their ability. Since you're concerned about playing with "feeling" chances are you already approach music from a creative perspective. You should do fine.

  • Hey man love the videos I learned alot. I'm a singer and now I want to add some shreding guitar to what I do. I learned a lot back as a kid from Vocal Power still do the exercises. METAL METHOD ROCKS!!!

  • The 80's called, they want their hair back.

  • @Camaron47 Me too.

  • @dmarks1

lol, me 3. Thanks to youtube I've been able to see all my guitar idols I learned from as a kid.... now, 20 + years later... I think we're all a little thinner on top. Good to see your humor is still there though :)

  • Doug kicks ass.

I took lessons from him in the early

    80's

    HEY DOUG ?

What happened to your accent ?

    It was cool.....

  • @dedicatedcyclist : That's funny. I haven't given that any consideration (my accent) but I guess over time I've made some changes. After reading that it just occurred to me that people seldom make fun of that anymore.

  • Rock On Doug !

  • hey doug, what is your guitar of choice?

  • I'm currently playing Dean guitars

  • Doug, I have the highest respect for you and the metal method series of videos which I purchased in the early to mid nineties, they via you, taught me a great deal at the time Thank you. I used to live in a very remote area of Australia (still in Australia, thank god, but doing incredibly now, Although the most expensive real estate in the state of Queensland) your videos gave me an escape into a musical rhelm as did mikies speed kills 1) which I also received via metal method. THANK YOU BOTH

  • You're welcome. I'm glad that I was able to help you out.

  • Sorry, I need more information to answer this question. I can't quite visualize what you're talking about. All I can say is I never think that my guitar is "resting" in that position. My fretting hand is constantly moving.

  • you awesome :D ty

  • I am positive that education is better than being self taught. I was self taught but I realized that I could have learned much faster through education - a step by step process. That's why I've been successful at this since 1982. If you have a video of your playing I would love to check it out. It's one thing for you to say you're one of the best, let me evaluate your skills.

  • actually, I can probably have one ready in a few days. please watch it, cause I actually want to know what you think. do you want me to send you a link or ad it as a video response?

  • Ahh, guitar player ego! (not you Doug) Reminds me of a joke I heard years ago. How many guitar players does it take to screw in a light bulb? Two, one to actually do it and the other to say "(scoffs) Uh, well I can do that!"

Kidding aside, Taking lessons gives the student the tools so they can go off on thier own and be an inovator not an imitator...

  • I'm so getting this

    looks very helpful

i've always been stuck with improvising and getting better at techniques

so i'm going to get this

  • You are so right!! now I understand why I have so much trouble with playing! I am a typical google guitarist. I have never found all the instructions that I need. The only thing I know how to play are some simple chords, and the pentatonic scale. And that isn't enough. At the rate that I have been going, I won't learn everything correctly until its too late. Thanks man! You have helped me to understand!

  • You're welcome. Sounds like you're on the right track. You've got to learn this stuff A to Z and it doesn't need to be difficult.

  • i borrowed a dvd from a friend- it is amazing, i plan on buying it. BUT, can any of your dvds teach me how to transcribe songs?

  • Transcribing songs is part of the process of learning how to play guitar properly. Yes, this definitely will help you transcribe. A big part of learning to transcribe is to just do it. You won't be very good at first but gradually you'll begin to put the pieces together.

  • Hi Doug. I wanted to say that I bought your VHS tapes in the early 90's that really opened my eyes to alot of new things and made me break out of being a 10 year "beginner" to an advanced intermediate player. Thanks for what you do!

Are there new lessons in the DVDs as opposed to the VHS tapes?

    Cheers!

    Andy

  • Hay doug i have been playing for almost a year but i have been a google guitarist and i really dont think im going the way i want to go. i have been looking at your ads on guitar world im really considering trying this but i dont know if its really going to help as much as i wanted to

  • In the course I teach the things that you need to learn. Still, not everybody is capable of spending an hour or so, five days a week practicing.

The course absolutely works, we guarantee that or return it for a full refund.

  • I'm really considering the course. But I would like to know how much is covered on different ways of holding a pick, and is there information on picks in general?

  • Yes there's lots of information on picking technique. There are PDF files available to download that describes everything taught in each of the DVDs. Check out the individual Stage descriptions at RockGuitar com

  • AWESOME! I wish I could have taken private lesson with Dough personally b/c he looks a very sympathetic guy and seems to teach from his "heart".

The lessons are the best substitute ever. Well taught and not too charged.

You can feel the progress and because it gives the impression of being so easy I started to practice more. Even my wife started to appreciate my playing. Thanks to Doug, I got the opportunity to fulfill a wish!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • You're welcome and thanks for the great comments I appreciate them. It sounds like I'm even bringing husbands and wives closer together. You can't beat that. lol

You're on the right track. Keep working at it and having fun.

  • Yes, it teaches key changes and everything else you need to know to become a better guitarist. Go to RockGuitar com. On the left side of the page select "all products". There you'll see each of the Stages with a link to info. Click on the info link. On each individual Stage you'll see a link to Details. Click-on this link and you'll see a pdf that explains everything taught in the lesson. Check out all six and you'll see how intensive the information is in the course.

  • Gee for "FREE" lessons, the "price" is far from 0.00

  • Go to RockGuitar com and sign up to receive the link to our "Free" lessons. You'll find that we do have 10 free online lessons and the price is 0.00 for each of them.

We also have a very popular DVD series that's not free.

  • I have these lessons and yes they work. Doug explains theory, techniques and the thing that help the most was how to tune a floyd rose...quikly! Thanks Doug.

  • i am really interested in buying your DVD's is there any stores that sell your dvds in morocco or the only way i can get them is online?

  • Sorry, we only sell direct. Our lessons aren't available in stores anywhere. That's how we keep the price of the DVDs so low. We do ship all over the world.

  • ok thank you
