His form is indeed exciting for his age, but... has anybody seen Yip Man actually do the bart cham dao ? Everyone seen him with a stick, doing wingchun, but none ever hear of him using swords...
very impressive all things considered but... i know its a demo but why waste your energy and internal power when using weapons unless theyre blunt knives that couldnt slice a loaf of bread? you dont need to farjin with weapons really unless you want to look good and waste energy
I just picked up WingTsun a month ago here in San Antonio, TX from Sifu Parker. I'm excited I'm finally taking up WingTsun/Chun and can't believe that every single move has a purpose. Confused at first but when explained to me what it's for I"m like, 'WOW'! Awsome! Got my Primary Grade Plum Blossom and can't wait for more.
@DMulah3 you've got nothing but negative sht to talk about everyone hu? I noticed on your page and comments. Nothing but contradicting what others think it's cool to them. Whether there are grades or not deal with it fk ntz! It is what it is!
@Venomousjester how is that negative I didnt even say it in a dis respectful way, It was a simple statement, idk why you took offense to it. but it is true there are no grades in wing chun. just dont want you to get cheated out of your money and learn the traditional art
@Yomoyo78 chu shong tin learned differently, I think yip man taught his first 9 students for free! chu shong tin being one of them, he taught them all the real wing chun, when he taught it to his sons and in hong kong he taught them his modernized improved wing chun thats why so many of his students have differences
@GonG108 and to what are you comparing this to make it bad? This is the BJD form done by an indesputable master of the art. All other demos should aim to be half as good. Anything else you have seen is not wing chun
@ozzie1246 lol i´m doing this non wing tsun as you say lol since 15 years and what you can see here is pure crap , but stay with grand pa and listen to his stories , but take care that he does not hurt himself
You cant question the validity of yip chun's wing chun. Hes the grandmaster and yip man's son, and most likely know more about wing chun than any sifu out there.
Another note to consider. If Ng mui was a White crane practitioner from fukien, then there should be some design influences on the BJD form. look at white the crane Sanchin form(5 element, 3 advances). You will see the same advances and retreats on 1 line, and same basic design layout of the form. overall I would consider this as some proof as to the validity of the BJD form. Just a thought.
consider this guide line and the view William Cheungs - Butterfly Knife form and you will see how far out of line he is with the system design and layout. it obvious.
Any differences between Ip Chun and Ip Ching are only in arrangement of the sections or minor choreography differences. the movements are basically the same with 8 sections total.
For those still wondering what the BJD form should look like then consider this. BJD It will not look like other southern styles such as Hung Ga. It will not employ the radical foot work of other southern styles.
The one thing if I were Yip Man, that I would have taught my sons better that I would have taught anyone else. Especially having taught great students prior to his sons coming to HK in 1962. Meaning that if they could not be as good as the top studnets...they could become better at at least one thing. At BJD. That is why I applaud Ip Chun at his BJD...he is peerless.
I was young when I learnt BJD & I still felt the pair of knives were pretty heavy back then because they're stainless steel. Master Ip Chun was around 60 & he's really smooth when teaching BJD. He's over 80 now & It's good to see that he's still able to show BJD. For those who comment about the vid, just imagine whether you could play BJD like him when you're over 70, let alone over 80. Keep good thinkings & don't let bad things contaminate your mind. I think it's very important for learning.
Master Ip Chun then told us to spread WC in the same way. He also told us not to argue with the others if they said theirs real WC because we knew we really learnt GM Ip Man's WC. I have to say Master Ip Chun is a really nice person & never argue with anyone & he never cares about the others comments because he knows the facts. To me, in the lessons, I always : Watch, Think, Ask, Keep in Mind, Practice and Digest.
I still remeber the lessons!! Time flies & I have to say life is really short.
I learnt private lessons from Master Ip Chun back in the early 80's in his place in Kowloon & he taught me all the WC techniques, of course including BJD. One day (in 1985) he asked few students to gather togehter in his place (I was 1 of them) & played GM Ip Man's 8mm of full WC techniques. By the end, he asked us a simple question,"Did I teach you anything different from my dad?" Of course, all of us said NO because he taught us exactly the same as Si Gung Ip Man showed in the 8mm.
You're not supposed to use jing when using the knives. This prevents the blade from travelling to it's full extent when slashing, resulting in a short, weak cut. This is the same for all bladed weapons. A deeper stance is required to wield them. Remember, you can't stab with the BJD as this would result in the blade becoming stuck in the opponent, you must slash and cut.
If one looks at this form by Yip Chun and then 葉係八斬刀 by Samuel Kwok, the main difference in the sets shown are the waist. Master Kwok is much more powerful(being younger) and uses his waist, body more in the strikes with sronger footwork and bigger movement as well. But the similarities are uncanny. They are similar in the first few sections in the objective of the motion.
All this comparison of Yip Chun, Yip Ching. Are their empty hand forms the same? No, Yip Ching changed Bil jee form and he says so. Are their kan sao the same in bil jee? No. But end of the day, there are sons of Ip Man, and he has allowed them the freedom to express their understanding of wingchun. And you think as brothers they never talked, compared notes? They are showing you what they believe is their expression of Batt cham dao and wingchun.
I have his knives they are not light. They were customed made to make the tip heavy so the energy goes to the tip, and the wrist, forearm tendons are stretched and trained. If you can be wrong on this simple detail, I would view all other the other info with a serious big spoon of salt.
but he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about, so why listen to a thing he says. his father knew his sons were lazy boys. he chose NOT to train them.
How do you know Ip Chun didnt learn from Ip Man? Ip Man told you? Or Ip Chun told you? Or someone else told you? Being the older son, chinese culture decrees to give the best to the elder. And whoever told you, you know that to be true? You were alive? You were there?
His form is certainly different than mine (from WSL) reagradless of the actually do positions the thing that surprises me the most is his body position and angling and horse... horse is very similar to the hand forms and his body faces foward most of the time... not angling off more like most other lineages... id want to see him Chi Do.. i feel it would be very different to how i spar with the Do.
Ip chun did not learn this from ip man. Ip ching did learn the knife form from ip man which is why their forms are different. Ip ching's full form is not on the net though. You have to get in touch with him or his students.
its true. how am i bullshitting? Have you seen ip ching's form? i'm not saying ip chun's is shit or anything. just that its different from ip man and ip ching's.
of course.. you'd know. You're the third brother or maybe have a crystal ball or a time machine. I take it by the way you're talking WSL was the ONLY one of four people who Yip Man ever taught the form to... And you've got his knives passed down directly to you. nob. Stop cussing and get training
Im young(23), healthy and have 5 years of wing tsun training so my arms are pretty flexible but I dont think I have the range of movement Yip chun demonstrates here, even empty handed. The angle of the blade despite the size and weight of the broad sword is impressive. Ive held one of these and to flex the wrist in the way he does is no mean feat..

I reiterate again after all this time, Ip Chung's Fart Chum Do is BOGUS and suck ass big time. He only took the 'crash course' the night before he had to perform in the public for the first time. It is high time for his hypocrisy to be exposed! Like X-File's tag lines: 'The truth is out there' and 'I want to believe'! But beware, although the truth is out there, so are many, many lies! Brah ha ha ha!
I dont like the old man comments. This form is being taught and therefore done slowly. If you watch, it looks alot diffrent at form speed. Also many other styles of wingchun exists. Please learn "your" Knife form and compare it. It may be different but it is WingChun and functions from those principals so it is effective. Stop the Name calling and stupid arguments in our style. It embarrassing.
what you replying to me for? I didnt call sigung yip chun an old man? Please post your comments properly. This is exactly how I do the form. You are embarrassing yourself.
Interesting to see all the negative comments about an ageing 'student'. If you interpret the form to be practised like an old man, you're missing the point! Use your younger vitality and common sense to adjust each set to fit your self. This is the most comprehensive 8 sets I've seen in a while...
how would you know its not yip man's form? or his dad didnt teach him? wouldnt you teach your son? wingchun was passed traditionally one to one. The world has benefited because of Sigung Yip Chun, literally thousands of students, films, movies. What have you done for wingchun?
I was always told that the forms were more mental than physical. Who cares if his forms arent so sharp and perfect. If you can understand the principle and meaning behind them thats obviously more important. You should expect so much from an elderly person.
I find this really confusing, I've never been a big fan of Ip Chun but this is REALLY bad for a Master.

Second of all, just because your daddy was a formidable martial artist...hell, you know the rest!
Third of all (and most important of all), we should all recognize that, even though his delivery is poor, we can still learn something from this performance (especially if there is no one else around to do the job).

Bogus! What a shame. As a sifu, one does not even question the validity of certain stupid made up moves. One can hurt oneself with those bogus BCD movements. =(
what qualifications and lineage do you have? what do you know? what does your master/teacher know? the man is 83 and will kick your but and you will have no answer or chop of your head with one of his moves and you will never know what hit/killed you. he's 83... still alive and kicking with followers more than you can only dream of... you may never reach his age... as far as i can see YOU(mofotox) are the BOGUS ONE.

If you don't know where Ip Chun learned his crash course BCD from, then you are just a pee-on wannabe. You are not in the know, you are just ignorant!
hahaha u have way with words i hope know wing chun or any art as much as u portray urself 2b. i havent seen a single move from u just tox/talks.hahaha. i dont need to know where he learnt his form from for a start. i simply have respect for him and any1 else who pursue to excell in their chosen art. at least he share his knowledge. what do you share?
What about you? You have any thing to share? NOT! I'm exposing the hypocrisy of some so call Sifu. If you have no knowledge of BCD or any higher level training in the art, then STFU! Like I said, you are just a wannabee "righteous" dude. Every "lineage" claims they know BCD; I've seen at least five, six versions of it but one ultimately has to use one's WC knowledge and common sense to discern the fakes. I double you have any insights.
i've seen many versions but i know of only 1 version. its not just the form i know the applications as well. doing the form is nothing if you dont know the meanings, concepts & applications behind every move/s.
give the man a break he did a lot to promote wing chun may not be as good as his father was but he is a great ambassador to wing chun.
(saw this 2day & i just have 2 reply) time flies by when one is having fun. been training pole & bcd with sifu & not with the keyboard.hahahaha
no i havent seen ip chings version as i can recall i may have seen 1st 2 sections somewhere(they dont show the whole form)not in public(maybe in private). its not realy the form but it does help to know something. more on the applications and knowing the meanings in the form. i know ip man taught differently and accordingly to his students and had reasons for them. ours is different from these guys but i respect them for their knowledge and great ambassador/s to wing chun.
well as I understand, Ip Chun did not learn the knives from Ip Man but from a student of Ip Man. That is what I have heard from pretty reliable sources. According to Ip Chun, Ip Man taught everyone the same. I have seen Ip Ching teaching the knives and even the first section here is different. Again, not to take away anything at all from IP Chun, a truly great master.
pretty hard to find any on the net...I believe there is a samuel kwok demo from the 2005 World Ving Tsun Conference that has him demo'ing the first 3 or for sections of the knives that are according to Ip Chings form. Other than that, pretty much private video. ;)

C.K.- Jun ma turning and advancing left to right.
Biu Jee - mostly staionary with Jun Ma, Huen Bo circle steps, and Biu ma thrusting step to the left and right

Bogus! What a shame. As a sifu, one does not even question the validity of certain stupid made up moves. One can hurt oneself with those bogus BCD movements. =(

Thanks for uploading. One can find the same thing on Google. But it is still sad. It is not the real deal.=(

what qualifications and lineage do you have? what do you know? what does your master/teacher know? the man is 83 and will kick your but and you will have no answer or chop of your head with one of his moves and you will never know what hit/killed you. he's 83... still alive and kicking with followers more than you can only dream of... you may never reach his age... as far as i can see YOU(mofotox) are the BOGUS ONE.

If you don't know where Ip Chun learned his crash course BCD from, then you are just a pee-on wannabe. You are not in the know, you are just ignorant!

hahaha u have way with words i hope know wing chun or any art as much as u portray urself 2b. i havent seen a single move from u just tox/talks.hahaha. i dont need to know where he learnt his form from for a start. i simply have respect for him and any1 else who pursue to excell in their chosen art. at least he share his knowledge. what do you share?
phoenixifist 4 years ago 4

(saw this 2day & i just have 2 reply) time flies by when one is having fun. been training pole & bcd with sifu & not with the keyboard.hahahaha

gonna have to agree with Mofotox here...not to take anything away from Grandmaster Ip Chun, but if you look at Ip Ching's form, they are different...

no i havent seen ip chings version as i can recall i may have seen 1st 2 sections somewhere(they dont show the whole form)not in public(maybe in private). its not realy the form but it does help to know something. more on the applications and knowing the meanings in the form. i know ip man taught differently and accordingly to his students and had reasons for them. ours is different from these guys but i respect them for their knowledge and great ambassador/s to wing chun.

well as I understand, Ip Chun did not learn the knives from Ip Man but from a student of Ip Man. That is what I have heard from pretty reliable sources. According to Ip Chun, Ip Man taught everyone the same. I have seen Ip Ching teaching the knives and even the first section here is different. Again, not to take away anything at all from IP Chun, a truly great master.

where can I find a clip of Ip Ching's form?
Yakshinian 4 years ago
pretty hard to find any on the net...I believe there is a samuel kwok demo from the 2005 World Ving Tsun Conference that has him demo'ing the first 3 or for sections of the knives that are according to Ip Chings form. Other than that, pretty much private video. ;)

@mofotox That's a understandable view from someone that seems to have an appreciation for Bum Fights. Regards.
