Additionally, the one flaw you don't see in a national sales tax is that tax will be a federal tool to determine "needs". It would put the feds beyond regulating interstate commerce, they'd be regulating intrastate commerce. This is too much power for the feds.

Your absolutely right. You cannot say that all those people who are white are voting for either McCain or Hillary cuz their white. This is true because white people do not base everything on race the way black people do. EVERYTHING is race with black people. If a black athelete or actor makes a mistake(i.e. Bonds, Vick, etc..) Black people feel they did nothing wrong and its only about the "white man bringing them down." They RARELY think that black individual did something wrong.

If Obama was firm on promoting second amendment and not infringing upon it. advocated abolishing the 16th amendment (income tax) and replacing it with a national sales tax, AND! a balanced budget amendment, Senator Obama could capture 65-75% of Republican voters 40 and under.

I can dig it, but typically democrats are for bigger government and bigger government programs, which goes hand and hand with more taxes.
Additionally, the one flaw you don't see in a national sales tax is that tax will be a federal tool to determine "needs". It would put the feds beyond regulating interstate commerce, they'd be regulating intrastate commerce. This is too much power for the feds.

Maybe I misunderstood your statement. A NST would be applied to everything across the board and be "neutral" with respect to interstate commerce.
The current tax code is HARSH to interstate commerce. I wanted to go to Alaska, but the 30% I pay in taxes prevents this (grin)

effectively, the government would be taxing based on needs and not needs. where as right now, you get taxed based on income, with deductions.

He would not have raise taxes, he could just cut the freakin' WASTEFUL spending, then freeze the federal budget. After locking in the national sales tax, if the fed budget did not have enough for various programs. Abolish them at Fed level and kick them down to the state govts.
ONE large federal program will not help as well as 50 differing state programs would.
(For those that turn to govt to solve their issues)

And Obama has shown his lack of leadership by his voting record or lack thereof (i.e. he has not voted on 1/3 of the legislation that has been presented to him!).

He may be an American citizen which by law would make him an American with just as much right to speak on this matter. That was an ignorant thing to say. You can make a political statement in any language. It is so typical of an american to be egotistical and think they have their own language. It's english we speak, and stupid people have come up with the "american" language. all this language is is an excuse for ignorance. This guy obviously knows a lot about history, and you are intimidated by the fact that you don't know as much as him even though you are american. Even with his policies he is somehow concidered to be one of the greatest, probably because of the League of Nations, Treaty of Versailles and stopping the unfair trade practices by US companies within the US. I think experience comes through leadership, sometimes suffering a little... like even leading a school at least qualifies for some leadship skills it might not be the best experience but is some.
I think they are both good Canadiates. I like them both.

Experience is not needed in some respects if you surround yourself with experienced people (as Lincoln did). My problem with both of them - and you touched on it breifly is that neither of them speak the truth - all for fear of being attacked by others.

You bring up a great point. However, the pundits and news people here in America are all to eager to try to create a conflict between the two candidates and Hillary has her unlikeability and Obama has his inexperience. The days of real news coverage is all but over here. I'd personally be happy with someone different than a rich old white guy. It'd make a great statement if either of them get elected.

Maybe you have read it, but "Team of Rivals" (Goodwin) was hugely inspiring to me around these points. It's the story of how Lincoln put his cabinet together from the people who ran against him, because he didn't want "yes men". Barack recommended this book.

His knowledge of US history far outstrips that of most Americans themselves. Sadly Americans find it difficult to think historically and that gets us into a lot of trouble.
