he government had their chance to let it break when the banks and big business all went screaming to the government for bailouts. They blew it.

And there is nothing to say that it had to be a disorderly series of bankruptcies. But government assisted bankruptcies should all have included a plan to break up GM, Chrysler, Citibank, etc. into brands or branches.
