  • THE best Camel song EVER!!!

  • BRILLIANT! THANX A LOT! But it's a pity the video stops before the end of the song! :p Well nothing is perfect! This is the best one here, of Nimrodel live vids, coz it SHOWS it's live! ; )) Je l'aime! J'aime Camel aussiiiiiiiiyyyyyiiiiiiiieeee!

  • son unos maestros del rock progresivo

  • Cok iyi bir parça

  • Perfect Music, I have no more words to explain this.

  • they are a little bit ugly

  • @lago2hell

And you are a lot stupid.

Now fuck off and die if you can't make more sensible comments than this.

  • This style of music ( Art rock, Prog Rock ) is between rock and classical music, so it is perfect style!

  • Asi excelente obra maestra...

  • live shows, albums this superb band always deliver

  • anyone know what type of keyboard Bardens uses at the beginning? it sounds like a mellotron but its a little different.

  • My Dad had Mirage on record and when I had a free house, I'd have the mates over and we'd bun a few fatties listening to this. I'd hit it in particular when listening to Supertwister. We were only 18 then and that was only 5 years ago.

  • Very beautiful music! Great band!

  • This song is all the more killer after a pinch hit of womba jomba!

  • fantastic group ********************

  • @ astrowisk: Yes the DVD "Moondances" contains both Preparation and Dunkirk, as well as several others from the concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, 17 April 1976. Purchase it at their official site, camelproductions

  • 000Rhyader000: Is there any other copy of another two numbers of this concert? -'Preparation'/'Dunkirk'

My copy is an old VHS but is damaged -although the sound is good

    Cheers

  • These guys are truly amazing ! When you consider the complexity of their music and that (to me) they perform it Better live than in the studio !!!

  • dream rock.... superb

  • A falling cadence, descending from heaven to Earth, ooo-soo classical -- and the long notes at the start of the measure: ooo-soo classical -- night birds outside me window love too, and want to join the band, or at least ride atop the Camel

  • Nimrodel, a classic, almost cliche march: then wholly or holly a procession -- Divinity that baritone diva: world changing voice, yet it teases because the voice sees that we need more orchestral food in order to understand the voice and the words of its heart and soul. The seasonings of acid-rock dissonance paint a pic of utter chaos to creation -- Meddle: Echos yet a bit more dimensional

  • Mirage was a fantastic album. So were many others Camel created. Many bands produce one in a lifetime. This is my favourite Camel track : creative, inspired, virtuistic and passionate. Wonderful stuff.

  • got a question for you, which album is better: Mirage or Moonmadness. The Snow Goose is an excellent record, but got to admit is a litle bit rigid. So, what do you think? Personally i think Mirage got more imaginative work.

  • When he rides, my fears subside, For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies, To find a land beyond the night. Once he wore grey, he fell and slipped away From everybody's sight. The wizard of them all, came back from his fall This time wearing white. He has a certain air, as if he's never there, But somehow far away. And though he seems afar, like a distant star. His warm he can convey.

  • No tengo suficientes palabras para definir esta grandiosa canción... solo disfruntenla!

  • Marvelous music!

  • where the hell is doug ferguson? Thier bass lines was the foundings of camel music, what a shame.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this masterpiece, this is one of my favorite Camel songs and recordings. Shame that this kind of bands are missed in time and underground . Is this on dvd? i want it!

  • Camel is and will always be my favorite band in the whole world, and this song is so amazing... gandalf would be proud.

    thanks for the video.

  • Thanks 000Rhayder000 for the trippy music by the masters Camel. I have this DVD and enjoy playing it. Think I'll send the clip to my friends. Trip on, Jeff

  • CAMEL!!!What can i say.Perfect hamony and melody music. For me camel is one of the best prog rock group i know.

  • Damn...I only wish I could have seen this concert. I was old enough and into prog, but I didn't find out about Camel until a bit after this. They weren't widely played in the States.

To me, Camel is the quintessential prog band. Throughout their career they covered just about the whole of what prog was about, in all its forms, structures and traits, both good and bad. But mostly good.

  • Wow

  • if camel made elevator music, then that must have been one godly elevator.

  • to those cretins who say that 1) Camel made elevator music 2) they were a 2nd division prog band - OPEN YOUR EARS AND LISTEN.

This is just about as good as music can get. I saw them on the Moonmadness tour (twice - once wasn't enough) and if I could relive one musical experience, that would be it.

  • I am 26 and am into a lot of genres of music, mostly metal though. But, i have just got into prog-rock and Camel and this stuff is amazing for sure.

  • they inspired Opeth so much )))))))))

  • grew up listening to this and now my son digs it too.timeless

  • los camel, es la super mamada, maestros

  • Doug Ferguson was a t rex on the bass, is one of the most creative bassist i ever heard, how do you can to say that Ferguson wasnt too good?, i cant believe this!!!

  • they look like rich kids, but they are awesome !!!

  • Stating that Doug Ferguson was not good enough is a new world record in ignorance. The magic Camel produced within their first 4 albums can - and will never be reproduced. Each member was of equal value to the whole.

  • People discrediting one of the band' members appens with a lot of bands and most of the time makes no sense. Just like people ignore Nick Mason and Rick Wright's contributions in Pink Floyd, or Rutherford's genious in Genesis, and sometimes even Steve Howe in Yes, a bunch of jokers these critics are.

  • I converted to mp3 all my Camel cd´s and burned it. i do not skip a single song.

  • threads from the fabric of my life - I was in ninth grade when Moonmadness came out, and I listened to it with my senheisser open-air headphones in the dark quite often, so their music really brings goosebumps after all these years. This was when I first got into FM radio and "Progressive Rock." sO Nice t see these videos, thank you!

  • awsome band!!

  • The bassline/guitar combo at the end of this song is spellbinding.

  • Bardens even looks like a camel at 3:13, 3 minutes and onward is too epic for words!!!

  • LOL. Far out!

Sheer joy to find this jewel on YT.

  • Just terrific. I never thought I'd see a live version of this song, my fave from "Mirage". The end is very Floydian.

  • geniuses

  • Una de las grandes de todos los tiempos!!!!

  • Doug wasn´t good enough.......

  • you mean he wasn't a virtuoso bass player? he was not and he didn't care to become one. he was a gifted musician though. and with whatever little skill he had, he was able to provide uniquely realized and beautifully delivered tunes, as if he was able to make unfitting stuff fit perfectly within the songs, infusing the later with even more personality and atmosphere.

i haven't heard another bass player playing the bass with that same unique and beloved style of doug ferguson.

  • anyway, my thumbs up to you!

i don't know what kind of idiots marked your comment as poor. most people in utube don't even know how to use the thumb system.

    cheers!

  • I grew up in San Diego and it seemed at the time that the California coast was the only section of the country that even knew who camel was! Mirage and Snow Goose were my favs back then. I always saw Camel ,(while definitely original), as kind of a cross between The Moody Blues and Early Pink Floyd. Loved seeing this!

  • Hahaha look at Latimer's face when Bardens starts rippin at the Moog... he's like "Yeah, that sounds awesome."

  • The story I've always read and heard (esp. on the Camel Curriculum Vitae DVD) was that Andy Ward wanted to change the sound and Doug didn't want to go in that direction, so he threatened to leave if they didn't get rid of Doug, and Andrew and Peter VERY reluctantly went along with Andy. Sinclair was a more talented bass player and singer, but his personality grated on Peter especially, so Peter left. You should buy the CV DVD - it's at Amazon. Includes reunion of Doug, Andrew and Andy in 2003.

  • Absolutely! Did you know they kicked him out of the band because Andy Ward wanted Camel to have a "better" bass player? Richard Sinclair totally changed the band's sound and chemistry, enough to drive Peter to leave. I wonder if they ever asked Doug back, realizing their mistake? Well, at least Andrew, Andy and Doug have made peace with each other and are recording again.

  • this is greater live!!!!

    camel is awesome

  • I love this song!!!

  • one of the best songs, by one of the best band ever!

    Really a beautiful song!

  • I have to say: Where the smeg has the art in music gone? Compare the likes of Camel, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Gryphon, and the more accessible Pink Floyd with the generic crap that is the music of today!

I know music, like art, is subjective, but still...

I didn't grow up with these bands, I discovered them relatively recently, and they make modern music seem so uninspired (massive generalisation I know, but I'm referring more to popular music than anything else).

  • @pothol3s - have a listen to Ayreon, preferably the albums before the Youtube vids as the sound is obviously better. There's a French prog rock radio on Itunes as well call Marilon or something close to that. It's all about prog rock

  • @pothol3s Was camel ever POPULAR?? i mean, the only thing people know bout YES is "owner of a lonely heart".. POP music will always be the same, now, if you want to listen to music that 20 years from now will be epic, then, you can find really good stuff. personally i think "porcupine tree" is one of those bands.

  • @seppesai That comment about Camel shows you are very young and don't understand that Camel and Yes have millions of people that know the songs and are not what you consider "pop" Please give us a break. LB

  • @louisebakalik yeah.. so you mean camel was pop in the 70s and 80s? camel was born as an alternative band. that's all im saying. and today if you want to find alternative music dont look for it on mtv.

  • great post. I'm a huge Camel fan, and this is probably my favourite song...

    Cheers

  • That Mini-Moog / Hammond B3 solo... No one but Peter Bardens (may he rest in peace) can/could do that. I've checked out SO many fantastic keyboard players, but not ONE can do what that man did. And Andy Latimer on the guitar... It doesn't get better. Oh wait, it does. Andy Ward on drums! And Doug Ferguson on bass. Perfection.

  • 0:30 1.977 is so cult! I wish i was in that concert!! Peter Bardens RIP. Hope Latimer get completely well soon and start touring again...

  • This is a Legitimate space Keyboard ! and the Mr. Peter Bardens control the nave !

  • can anyone direct me to a guitar tab for the progression? i've tried a number of different ones, but all of them skipped over the progression :(

  • The more I hear, the more I am convinced this band is pure genius

  • Amazing...

I've got to say, this is my all time favourite song. It was the second Camel song I ever heard, and it still amazes me as much today as it did then.

    Not much beats this...

  • I cant get over the parade part.

  • Can't get enough of andy wards drumming... incredible

  • does amy body know if the studio version is recorded in a slightly different tuning?

  • by this I mean if it´s in a different tunig than A 440

  • fuckin' awesome!!!!!!

  • excelent

  • GEEEEEZZZZZZ

    amazing!!!!!

  • Pure Felling !!!!

    Stunning!!!

    There´s No Words!!!

  • jashka23,que bueno llevas toda la razon, estos son fantasticos...para mi el Mirage es uno de los mejores albums de la historia del rock.todo entero, sin desperdicio, igual pasa con rush y Saga(mis otras bandas fav). salu2.

  • I love how these guys were so talented and got so much recognition and notoriety

    :-|

  • I saw them open for Wishbone Ash and Kiss at San Diego's Golden Hall in '74. This song has always been my favorite from them. A year later, they played several shows in Encinitas at the La Paloma Theater.

Amazingly, I ran into a guy at the FMPM prog fest in Montreal just a year ago who was at the same shows!

  • sosuke 111 why saying they are best ?

they are one of the best 4 sure ! dont forget wishbone ash , caravan ,yes , genesis ....

  • hmmmm i wonder if this was the song that finished the concert? it one of my favorites, seriously now, mirage, snow goose, and moonmadness are 3 essentials of proggresive rock, and the only albums these guys need to be in my top prog. rockers list

  • Only Bardens can do that mini-moog solo. Fantastic song. Would have been a little cool if they had used a part of it in Lord of the Rings.

  • esyto es lo mejor desde k se invento el p[rogresivo

  • I had this record at age 5 yrs.old(was my parents but always played it)and this was my favorite piece from the album. What a great band CAMEL is most underrated

    HIS FORM BEGAN TO FADE.................

  • 5 yrs old!? WTF, did ya say 5!? Thought I was the youngest prog fan. I bought LLDB @ the age of 15. I'm 25. This is my fav song by Camel. Mirage was the 1st CD I bought from them.

  • Yeah! I would look at my Moms albums and if the cover was cool play it. This cover had a camel with wings holding two diamonds. Not the cig.cover. Thanks for replying and this music KICKS!!!!!!!!

  • I bought Camel '02 remastered CD, so mine has the original cig cover. I live in California, so the CD was import. Bought it @ Tower Records. Camel 1st 4 CDs were re-released in 2002 as a tribute to the (then)recently deceased Peter Bardens

  • Yeah sad about Peter Bardens and Tower Records?

Are you speaking of the Tower Records in Campbell or L.A. (I also lived in Calif.)

  • I live in Mission Viejo. I used to shop @ the one by the Languna Hills mall

  • It is curious they had such a following in California, long before Andy Latimer moved here (or perhaps the cause).

  • A Live Record was also re-released in 2002.

Not sure, about Camel, though, only one that I don't have as re-release.

  • I was, but Rain Dances and Breathless were not

  • This song is probably my favourite...

Everything is great... expecially the first verse... SUCH A GOOD SONG!

I agree with the 4 comments underneath this one :)

  • This song is one of the most amazing master pieces of camel. I agree with Apartt. It brings tear to my eyes too. I love these guys!!!

  • This song makes me cry, the intro of the singing, and the verse itself :(

  • Im not gonna repeat!, saying just how good this song is. I only wish some crazy genius out there would think of putting together a HIGH QUALITY video with this and images from the LOTR movies!

  • exactly, there's something elvish or wizardrous going on:)

  • Simply the best of prog!!!

  • The ending solo for me is simply the definition of Rocknroll(at least on the CD)

  • Mirage was the best album they made but "Moonmadness" was pretty good too!

    THX for uploading..

  • amazing song

  • Great Mini-moog solo!

  • HIS FORM BEGAN TO FADE..............

Yes!!!! I had this album(MIRAGE) and is one

of my faves. Thank you for this memory..

They don't make music like this anymore

  • They're great. My favorite Camel song from the best Camel album.

  • I'm surprised noone's done a video combining this song with clips from the movies yet.

  • What can be greater than prog music?

prog music inspired by the lord of the rings!

    Camel Lives!!

  • Prog inspired by Harry Potter?

  • Everyone that hasn't seen this has missed one of music finest performances and songs. Bardens's solo is SO incredible and Andy Latimer is as always the best guitarist and they fit perfect together. There's been a lot of songs inspired by Lord of the Rings, but this is the best one! =)

  • Thanx Rhayader..vintage Camel...and thier best lineup for us old travelers

  • Haven't heard Camel very much but this is my favorite song what I've heard. Favorite of all songs in the world what I've heard.

  • One of my all time Camel favourites.

  • peter frampton tried to take credit for Camel once saying they were his back-up band... as if

  • No. Different band named Camel. Framptons Camel was his solo album from '73. The formation of THIS Camel probably made him drop the name

  • start with Mirage then Lady Fantasy. We used to do acid and listen to Camel and have sooo much fun

  • this video should be watched, the song should be listened, twice or more in a day.. as a medicine, as a fairytale, as a fantastic story, as a unbeliavable truth.. wonderfull.. this is my favourite one..

  • Havent heard that much from Camel. But i dig this stuff! Does anyone have any suggestion as to which album to start with?

  • you may start with Echoes, thats a sort of Best of

  • A lot of ppl say Snow Goose is best but it has no words. I started w/ the single comp. A Compact Collection. Then, I got Mirage. It's excellent. Have their 1st 5 studio albums

  • Their first five are stellar and flawless in my opinion. I know of no other band where I actually enjoy every song on each album.

  • Camel has way too many great songs to say any one is my favorite, but this is definately top 10 :)

  • ...What a song. Definatly camel at their best. Well done for uploading.

  • These two Camel clips do not have the quality they deserve. Finally camelproductions[DoT]com will release these recordings on DVD. When they do these videos might get removed. Buy the DVD's,and support Camel.

  • Still waiting..

  • for me the best song from Camel.and one of thebest songs ever.

  • Fantastic! One of my personal favorite albums. 5 stars.

  • "As I was walking up the stairs

    I met a man who wasn't there

    He wasn't there again today

Oh how I wish he'd stay aWAY"

  • > Happy the Man ...

Can you say "Kit Watkins"? ;-)

    > Mirage defined "progressive rock"

    I totally agree.

  • Happy the Man, King Krimson, Yes, et al notwithstanding, Mirage defined "progressive rock" moreso than any other recording I've ever heard. All five tracks are masterpieces, and White Rider may be the best single prog cut ever recorded. I agree that the segue between the begining procession into the spacey guitar riff is the best single part of this tune. And what a perfect voice for prog too. I sure hope Andrew's health issues do not overtake him. RIP Peter. You are sorely missed.

  • Andrew Latime is the Best !

    nice song ;)

  • I love them! ) Really! ) Great band... was

  • along with mystic queen and supertwister , my favorite track on the mirage lp

  • Mystic Queen was on Camel's first lp, not on Mirage!

  • Actually there is live version of Mystic Queen on the Mirage reissue that was put out @ the time of Pete Bardens' death. It from the Marquee club in '74

  • Easily my favourite track off Mirage.

  • Underrated, Underrated, Underrated!

  • Nimrodel + Poe + wine take my years.. Deadly solo by the way.

  • i can't get enough of the part in the recording when the fanfare breaks into the strings and guitar. Not quiote in the video, but it's still pretty amazing

  • Actually, the "strings" R mellotron

  • I know. But they're string samples. hence I said strings :D

  • Classic lineup of an amazingly underrated band. This song is a personal favorite! Andy Ward is such an excellent drummer. It's nice to see how humanity has gone from stuff like this to My Chemical Romance and Avril Lavigne.

  • Thanks ALOT!

  • god i love camel.

  • What a great performance! Camel is so lively on stage... I wish I was alive then...

  • This video is absolutely great! What a lively performance by all of them!

  • Got to love Camel they are one of the best bands ever, right?

  • hoodadzmin said it best;and i'd listen to them on a crystal wireless set!Kudos!!! and Thank You!

  • great band great song

  • Camel at their best - with the original line-up!

  • the greatest prog rock band of all time.amazing song
