  • Hello, do you have any intention of releasing any sourecode for your Project? Or could you give us any references you used to put this together at all? Sorry for asking.

  • I wish I had a fifth of your know-how regarding this stuff... QBasic. Props.

  • Freaking awesome. But I don't have a parallel port on my pc :(

  • Qbasic AND a Sega Genesis. I just about had a nerdgasm! My parallel port dac has nothing on this. :D

  • Naljakad hääled :D

  • Dude! Brilliant work! Congrats!! Big achievement man!

  • You are, again, amazing ! ;)

  • So when do you think this Megadrive tracker will be done? It requires the cable connected to the computer, right? :< if so I'll most likely have to find a cheap PC or something as I'm on a Mac.

  • Tracker has not seen any real improvements recently... strategy RPG with outstanding graphics but poor gameplay called Real Life has been keeping me away from doing things regarding the treacker......

Cable is needed if you want realtime MD sound... test ROM option would work too, but all good MD emulators are Windows only... I know nearly nothing about Macs, if you can effectively run MS-DOS programs then things could work out.

  • The USB converters do not work at all... you need a LPT port which you can manipulate in any way, and only real ports and some PCI or ISA add-on cards quality.... under XP you need some I/O enabling program such as UserPort, for Mac, I have no clue.... it would be much less hassle to get an old enough PC that you make run 98SE... Virutal Machine setups will most likely not work as I highly doubt they will pass (random) I/O operations to the hardware....

  • USB and FW may be available, but they're nothing of easy to use and I am NOT going to build those interfaces, and most people will not be able to build them anyway... LPT on the other hand is amongst the most easy to use interface and it does not require any microcontrollers and such, just a simple cable. And since I do things though DOS as of now, USB is not very easy to use.

    LPT FTW :P

  • Did you modify you MegaDrive by putting it inside a clear case with LED's? Do you have to modify the MegaDrive in order to connect it to your PC to perform the tasks in this video? What operating system does the software run under?

  • My MD2 is quite heavily modified, but none of the modifications done are required by the software to run. The MD has to be connected by LPT to controller port cable to do these things. All software is MS-DOS as of now, with some extra things they will function in XP aswell.

  • It's nice to know that you don't need to modify the MegaDrive in order to do what you're doing, I like that idea as I'm not crazy about modifying electronic devices. What modifications have you done to your MegaDrive? Do you need to use a Cartridge in the MegaDrive in order to make it work with your software on the PC?

  • The modifications done are possibility to overclock 68000 and Z80, region mod, Crystal Clear Audio Mod for MD/Genny™, TMSS bypass, various cosmetical mods.... aka fun stuff :P

The cartridge is required, any flashcart or copier device will work that lets you run a ROM image on the system, the MD can only be booted from cart of MegaCD/SegaCD, but in case of latter, I have no room for audio samples (too little RAM).

  • Finally somebody can show me how they build the music for the 16bit era :)

Long time ago that I have seen (and worked) with a tracker!

    Upload is MUCH appriciated!

  • Upload as in the software setup gets available to everyone ? Well, it happens, but when I'm having a Windows version made of the tracker... that should happen around summer :)

  • I'd buy a cart from you when this is complete.

  • Yaaay Tiido superb video. /5 points/

I am really really looking for win32 version.

    Well FM+SAMPLES rules!!!

  • xD...Awesome mad scientist laughs xD

  • Holy fucking shit, that is truly awesome.

  • This is excellent.

  • you sound like you've gone mad as if to say "they all thought I was crazy, MAD THEY SAID. but I've DONE IT BWAHAHAHA!"

    .. :D

  • Holy crap my eyes bleed from the sheer awesomeness T-T

  • I like the mad inventor laughs ;) looks cool!

  • Quite nice!

  • Absolutely fantastic! I'm putting it to work in 2009 for more Pier Solar powa! :D
