I can not believe in what you say, how can you say that, you really do not know what you are writing, cure could never make the worst album, maybe you are EMO
I'd compare The Cure and Pornography with Nine Inch Nails in the Downward Spiral/Fragile days, before the change to the synthpop we hear now. After Pornography, The Cure lightened up a little too much for my taste, and even the turn back to the more gothic sound in the late 80s and early 90s didn't produce quite up to THIS.
Still the best Cure song ever in my opinion, already said how much I love this tune. A piece of any music that touches a note inside u at a certain emotional time tends to stick. The interpritation is anyones right and this is the place to put it. BUT, I really do not get these TOSSERS who just comment with no real constructive criticism but to wind up people, get over your R Smith fixation and try getting a life. You stlted emotional retard, who are u anyway a member of a Cure Tribute Band.
towerblock what ever the rest is, ur very lucky to know robert james smith as much as u do knowing he a athiest. lol idiot i bet u dont even know what guitar he uses playing this song do you? if so what kind of guitar did robert mainly use from 78 till 91
lol, well if you read the bible or see the movie jesus of nazareth then u would know it is about him, cuz he went to a temple and saw a blind me and said slowly (give me your eyes that i might see) after he said to the people(a blind man kissing my hands) and later on jesus the lord went on his knees twice, also thousands of years before he flooded the earth due to many sins, and when he got hanged on the cross everything went away forever and he washed all the sins away
You know, a lot of what The Cure plays makes me wonder if they're a Christian-based band. I can understand hondacornamax is coming from when he says this is about Jesus.
Like cuitlapanton this is my fav Cure song. Not many people rank this as their favorite. Usually if people say they are a Cure fan they almost ALWAYS say their fav. song is Just like Heaven. A nice song, but there are more complex ones out there IMO.
this song is about jesus christ, give me our eyes that i might see, a blind man kissing my hands, the S U N is holding my head into dust, as he prays on his knees, if any of you know anything about jesus then you would find this song very obvious that it's about christ, such a great song. and very easy to play the guitar parts excatly the way it is, and more way more easier to play the base parts even with a guitar.
take a look at the lyrics first please, they stand in the description, and can you explain why you think its about jesus abit clearer? you made me curious.
'Disintegration' is the flag for The Cure, like it or not. It's a masterpiece, at least for the majority of fans, the causual listeners and even the non fans.
'Pornography' is the face of RS but only a minority of people (like me) can really listen and understand the songs. I see this album as a secret joy for the fans, not for the general public.
The tour for the promotion of this album was a total disaster at all levels... It's natural that things had to change after that.
You definitely don't need drugs to enjoy something. When i'm under influence I enjoy the things that I enjoy without drugs just somehwat more or something..I know this sounds vague. But if don't enjoy something without drugs, you won't enjoy them with drugs.
I agree you do not need drugs to enjoy this beautiful song...I was dancing to an audience of friends & I was all in black with a veil and it was so cosmic,,,all my friends enjoyed it & yes maybe some were under the influence of something?*...
Are you kidding me? Just because Disintegration is a popular album doesn't make it bad music. If you'd said stuff like "Why Can't I Be You" and their other poppy stuff is not good I could agree, but Disintegration is a masterpiece, as is this album.
I really can't agree. Disintegration sounds like so many other 80s pop bands, whereas Pornography has a much darker gothier feel.
You can't seriously put crap like Love Song and Lullaby up there with One Hundred Years or A Strange Day? It's only one small step from Disintegration down to the aberration that was Friday I'm In Love. I prefer the first 3 albums, it's all crap after that...
Meh, I wasn't talking about the songs Lullaby and Lovesong, more like songs like Closedown, Fascination Street, Disintegration, Plainsong etc. I don't think The cure was selling out with the poppier songs they've made, just trying to show they weren't "just a goth band". You don't think Disintegration is a dark album? You're entitled to your own opinion on them, I just think both pornography and disintegration are amazing albums.
I really don't. But you too are entitled to yours. I guess I see the Cure primarily as a (light) goth band, and I just reject the material that doesn't tick those boxes.
But no I really don't find Disintegration "dark". It's got a sad feel and the lyrics often aren't very positive but it's far too melodic and wistful to be "dark". Compare with what say Coil or Skinny Puppy were doing around this time.
Robert Smith has some interviews where he talks about his 'lame pop' music, like 'hot hot hot', 'friday', 'inbetween days', 'why cant i be you', etc.
He admited that he needed those songs for promoting and selling the albums but he never degraded the albums or the concerts. The fans know this and don't mind because some of these songs (like 'inbetween days') don't mess the albums.
'Lovesong' is not lame but RS gift to his wife on his wedding. It was never meant to be a top hit.
Every band or artist sells out the day they sign a contract to sell their music!
RS and rest of the band has to earn money from their work and if no one buys the records or go to the concerts they would vanish like so many in the past.
The diference is the type of ambition and greed each person has. Imho RS manages to balance things the right way.
Even Sex Pistols had contracts...
Don't put The Cure at the same level as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Britney, Rod Stewart, etc.
I'd agree with this. Every band you hear has "sold out" by that thinking, since every band out there wants people to listen to their music. I think yoyayeyaye's problem with the cure is that they were a changing band and didn't just stick to the goth type of music they were known for, for good results and bad results sometimes.
many people my age (15) say they like the cure, but have only heard their popular stuff, like Lovesong and Just Like Heaven, but their best work is also their most underrated one!
@MindBloodandDark This albums never been underated. Its cited ,along with Disintergration, as their greatest work. Even Rob Smith himself said that this Pornography was his greatest achievement :)
@ruudzwart I love this album & 17 Seconds, although I think the production on 17 Seconds is not very good.Love the production on Faith although certain tracks are a bit too plodding for me!

first time i heard this album i locked myself in my room, took acid and got lost in it! truly psychedelic album and this particular song i fell in love with instantly! its still my favorite... i feel it was a perfect introduction to this album and i will always hold it close to my heart
isn't it dangerous to listen to this (depressing) song in lsd? isn't the chance of having a bad trip bigger then? And who knows what the concequences will be ...
each to their own hey??? drugs dont fuck up your life if you dont let them... only weak minded fools fall victim, my life has been enhanced tremendously by drug use... thank you :)
i also was a kid when i listened to it and i did undestand this album very well just other ppl didn't :) but anyways this album is one of the best of the cure and they played this song live when i went to see the cure in rotterdam it was so fucking amazing and psychodelic live with all the light in the stage wohooo ;;; goingg away on a strange day........
Clockwork, I agree with you on that. However, I am a BIG fan of "Disintegration" as well.

The songs on 'Pornograhpy' really show what was going on RS head and the rest of the band members back then.
It's a piece of art, and in some ways better than 'Disintegration'.

It's much better. Disintegration is lame pop music. The Cure sold out far too soon.
