  • I think "Cobra and Phases..." is the Groop's most experimental and hence most misunderstood album (has anyone read the infamous Pitchfork review?) "Sound-Dust" was a quite underwhelming and unsatisfying followup for me. Wish they made more albums exploring territories like those on "Cobra and Phases..."

  • this is the best band I've heard in my short fifteen year old life.

  • Best album.

  • alltimefav for the island

missed laetitia this evening in frankfurt

    i could cry

  • Im high right now

  • 4 people should go get dead now. That is all.

  • i love charlie brown !!!

  • Thx a lot for the music plus lyrics !!!

  • Listening to this made me want to listen to Nouvelle Vague. I look to the righ and behold, I see them in the list of suggestions. Hah!

  • I am the new moon. I am the future of your will. All your future decisions must now be decided through me. I will stare at you.

  • Needs more jazz flute

  • Kites Are Fun

    :-)

  • Phenomenal POetry

  • Best track from a truly phenominal and vastly underrated record.

  • @brufe I agree. Superb record, one that i listened to over and over senior year of college. It got me through some really tedious work :)

  • I would make stereolab my wife, if she were a woman.

  • Is it just me, or does this sound exactly like "Michigan" or "Illinois"-era Sufjan Stevens? Really, it's the other way around.

  • oh my god? does music get any better that this?

  • charming, wonderful, fresh, amazing, perfect, balanced, unique.

  • Beautiful!

  • And everytime that I hear a song of Stereolab, or McCarthy for that matter, these perfectly shaped pearls of pop music, so intricately executed, so rich in their simpleness, I smile to myself and think: "Goddamnit, and to think that Tim Gane started out with Uncommunity." And then I pop on something by thee un-kommuniti, my face melts off, I suffocate from my own blood, and them I am in true bliss.

  • This tune's got a lot of madlib vibe to it. something to the likes of "all caps", "slim's return" and "monkey suite".

  • so beautiful! what r they doing now?

I loved their music so much!

  • @ MyNameISNeutron,

I didn't say Techno can't be beautiful. I personally love techno, esp. Detroit Techno, which is beautiful. However, my point was that Stereolab is not Techno. And furthermore, they are a group of outstanding musicians, who happen to make beautiful music. That was all :)

  • what record is this from?

  • @philthetremoloking Cobra and the Group Play the Milky Way...a fucking amazing record...

  • @corkscrewfoley thanks

  • @corkscrewfoley I agree. From 1999 if I'm not mistaken, correct?

  • @philthetremoloking Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night

  • nice leap from....Miles.....

  • Genius personified

  • Nice song, but that shadow puppet looks uncomfortably similar to Mack Tonight.

  • @Yamamanama hahahaha i was just thinking that- this video is oKAAYYYYY

  • spot the "Dancing Queen" quote. v cute ;)

  • This video almost looks like as if it was shot on hand-developed film (and possibly off a tv monitor as well) , it has that mottled, dirty, solarized look that a film developed outside of a proper lab (and in a bathtub or other improvised implement) looks like, which is quite unique, I must add... ;) It adds a unique aesthetic ot the video (one of Stereolab's best songs IMO).

  • bellissimo!

  • bliss inducement

  • I love this bassline

  • R.I.P. Mary.

  • wow. i barely discovered this band from a song called umbrellas which was remixed by peanut butter. i love this band already!

  • the song Umbrellas is by the group The Free Design (and the original sounds alien compared to the Peanut Butter Wolf version), this group is Stereolab.

  • Good music doesn't have a color booundary...(so I thought)...I still like R&B (though not the new stuff) and Hip-Hop (not rap, especially what they play now) I like all music, if it's good music...

  • I'd have to go with Dots and Loops! One of my Fav Albums!

  • I don't care if they ever made another video, this is just good music Stereolab is one of the best groups I ever heard. Their creativity is beyond comparison. In all the years I've followed this group, I never heard anything like them. They're in a league of their own.

  • @peachesncreamme you might like a band called Broadcast if you like stereolab, they are worth the listen.

  • Thanx Florrie:)

  • Your welcome P n' C

  • Good call! Broadcast certainly are worth a listen.

  • @FlorrieDugger I will second the Broadcast nod! Similar sounds, except Broadcast has a darker sound to them, and it's very haunting as well.

  • ZOMGASAH I LUV DIS SONG :)

  • Always my favorite band.

  • Beautiful :)

  • No 3d, No money, No naked chicks, No futur! All i need!!!

  • @ChinaskyDude fuck to the you. and i mean that from the bottom of heart.

  • Y E S !

  • awesome.

  • My favourite song from the album.

  • Surreal video.... totally love it! Why spend fortunes on a video when you can be creative and original and make a video like this that totally holds your attention from start to finish....

  • GAMATI!!!

  • great video! awesome band! saw em live... just awesome....

  • wow... never saw that video before... does the song no justice... that song is an absolute classic.

  • October 5, The Paradise, Boston. I have never looked forward to a show so intensely in years. Even the thought of it! Come on time! Pass!

  • This is such a flawless track. I heard it the other night and I've had it stuck in my head since.

  • Yes, techno is not the right word but I'm not sure what genre to call it. They are in a class of their own.

  • Indeed. Just call it Stereolab. Labels prove meaningless at their level of artistry.

  • it sounds like smooth jazz to me i mean they're playing their instruments

  • Post-rock.

  • how is this techno? ;[....more like acid jazz... to me.

  • Forget the labelling. Enjoy the music.

  • +1.

  • I've never heard horns in techno before, but I love it!

  • Stereolab is not techno. They are a group of outstanding musicians making beautiful music.

  • @dranfu So techno can't be beautiful?

  • They were soooo cool. I was given an advance copy of dots and loops, and immediately bought everything they did. When this came out i flipped! It was like sergio medez meets the doors or something.....very different band, indeed. Saw them at the wiltern and will never forget it. Thanx!

  • i saw this band in nashville at the mercury lounge... also saw them at sudsy malones in cincinnati a looooong time ago. at nashville, i could have reached out and touched any of them, the show was that intimate. i told the lead singer during the opening band 'have a good show' and she said with a smile, 'thank you very much'. i almost passed out. i heart you stereolab.

  • What a great tribute to a great band. Yay free design! Hat's off to Stereolab. Video's cool but I'm in it for the music. :) And what's up with nay-sayers? I don't know why so many modern listeners have an allergic reaction to music that makes you tap your toes and feel good...

If you liked this tune - you'll love the real Free Design. They've a long history of under appreciation, but don't lat that stop you. Definite ear candy! Enjoy!

  • this song is so good to my ears ;)

  • - probably one of the best music-videos I ever saw. (Spritiual...)

  • Great song - I love the 70's prog rock influence. Check out the rhythm and arrangement of Pig by Soft Machine - either big influence or huge coincidence.

  • tusen takk :)

  • I love this band so much i traveled from Miami to Atlanta to see them in 04!

  • Vive la krautrock!

  • Has anyone noticed a pattern in Stereolab song titles? they tend to not have to do with the lyrics but more to do with either musical/sound equipment and terms (often used in their songs) or other influences.

Jenny Ondioline, Lock-Groove Lullaby, Wow & Flutter, Revox, John Cage Bubblegum, Harmonium, Farfisa, Temper, Slow Fast Hazel, Miss Modular, The Free Design, Intervals, Barock-Plastik, Captain Easychord, et al.

  • Stereolab are magical. Their later stuff is such beautiful pop, lyrics like the best dream, structured then baked like a fairy cake.

  • siempre ame a stereolab desde el primer momento!!! gracias a mi amiga vanessa!!que feeling

  • stereolab jacked free design so hard...

  • wow!!! this song structure, rhythm and chords reminds me of the good old Soft Machine... beautiful...

  • yeah their rhythm is amazing. the drummer is fantastic. listen to their song "rainbow conversion".

  • Nice shadow puppets - and we all love the Free Design! Kites are Fun! Ronda go Round!

    Seriously, a beautiful vid tribute.

  • i've never seen this before - thanks for posting!
