I see how a lot of people criticize Kris for a song that he wrote. Take a moment to think that if Kris Kristofferson never released this song, then people like Elvis would have never done it himself. Elvis was not a songwriter by any means, and his excellent stage performances and image were the two primary things that got him over.
@DePokerGod That is utterly ridiculous, Kris Kristofferson captures the raw emotion of the song HE wrote. Now I'm not arguing Elvis is inferior, Elvis is fantastic, but so is Kris, and by stating otherwise all you are doing is denying yourself the joy of this great artist.
i totally agree , its not the only song he wrote for elvis either theres a few , hes a gifted man with many talents , and a legend , in my eyes bigger than elvis
I just saw him tonight with Merle Haggard, and poor Kris just didn't have it voice wise. I hope it was just an off night for him. At the end of the song, he sang, "help me make it through tonight" so I think he knew things weren't good. One problem seemed to be that his microphone was turned down, and that didn't help things. His voice was louder and a bit stronger later in the show.
This is one of my favorite songs of Kris and I think it's one of the best ones ever recorded. Kris you're the best! Your songwriting is to Country Music what Bob Dylan's is to folk. Love you, Kris!
@ajdevise1 tomorrow can be for the devil for all I care . Because I need the Lord tonight. I need a friend. (don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow can take care of itself ) Also Matthew 6: 34 ..
I like Willie Nelson's version bit better, usually, but I guess depending on my mood I could prefer this 1 occasionally, as this is cool too. I mean, they are booth good versions. BTW, I could swear I heard THIS song/particular version in a movie with Kris. Anybody know? Damn it. Now it will bother me until I remember. I LOVE his movies BTW. I always thought he was just about damn near the most underrated actor in film. (Denis Quaid too, underrated)
My lovely wife and I got to see Kris once, I have a photo of Toni and him that did not turn out the best but it is what we got. Kris wrote so many great songs. This is one of my favorites but not this version. I know there is one out there that he slowed down and really put some feeling in it. Of course I cannot find it.
This song is used to perfection on the soundtrack for John Huston's masterpiece "Fat City". Kristofferson isn't in the movie, but his lyrics definitely resonate for Stacey Keach and Jeff Bridges' remorseful characters.
the words i remember most of my dad singing this song is i dont care if your right or wrong because when he sang the chorus what a greattttttttttttt voice o forgot to sway its the kingggggg here o yes
Sorry. I thought that was was the essence of my e-mail about men. I totally agree with you. I too would join the service to not associate with these wimps. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding
last autum Kristofferson had a consert in Helsinki (Finland), and it was my first time to hear a real country music legend play live! As a big fan of the Highwaymen and country music it was a experience I'll newer forget! This is one of the best country songs ever made!
the original? cant believe this no this song well more familiar to me as an old reggie tune, searched for this song and one of my favourite singer songwriters appears!
did lynn anderson ever sing this its a great tune but i mix things up,u tube doesnt help:) you wanna spagetti you get cheese lol ,its a brill cover great song.5 from the db5
lynn anderson didn't cover it as far as I know. Sammi Smith, who sounds remarkably close to LA had the biggest hit of all of many versions recorded of this song and she as close to LA as you can get. Tammy Wynette also did a cover that was pretty close vocally to Sammi's.
yes i agree with what you say, and i think they are not made as masculine as they used to be. I love this guy, he will always be my John Norman Howard.
