i read that bugatti was inspired to make this when he heard a woman comparing his cars to rolls royce, saying that rolls royce was better.

Great story.
At the time Rolls Royce WERE better in making great limousines with unrivaled comfort and refinement. Bugatti made great sportscars.
Truth to be told Rolls Royce had great rivals at the time like Hispano-Suiza and Isotta-Fraschini.
Bugatti intended to outdo them all with the Royale but sadly the Depression meant even the rich couldn't afford to buy one.

I did not know that such a replica existed. As I know, the last T-27 was bought by Tom Monahan (of Domino Pizza) in early nineties in excess of 11mil USD /dollar was much stronger then/
