I use Lightroom3 and CS5 and fairly new to each. I am confused about the overlap of photo processing functions between LR3, Adobe Camera Raw and Bridge (I am not referring to the database functions). For example, when you refer to Bridge can a viewer substitute Lightroom? Or, if you refer to the sliders in Adobe Raw, can a Lightroom user assume the same functions will work in Lightroom?
@ochelataocelot - there is a parity between Lightroom & Adobe Camera RAW (ACR). Any edits you make in Lightroom's Develop module can be adjusted or changed in ACR. Likewise, if you edit a RAW file in ACR then later import into Lightroom you will see all edits in tact. If you visit my website and search "Lightroom vs Bridge" I wrote a short article highlighting differences & similarities.
@sandruh4048 - yes. Lower ISO settings equate to lower noise in your images. The ISO controls light sensitivity, so higher ISO is better in low light conditions, but will create more noise.
@ArtistWoOoOo - Yes, there is still noise when shooting at higher ISOs. As the tech improves you can push the ISO setting, but for folks with older cameras this software option works great.
@ajwood2001 well yeah but i doubt my parents will give me anymore money for awhile considering i spent 260 on a new lens, but i'll download from a torrent or something cause i'm getting tired of express and my lightroom trial is expireing.
@PicturePerfectPhgphy - Thank you for your feedback. I can certainly see the issue for folks not familiar with ACR. Any RAW image will open in ACR by default. You can open JPEGs & TIFs by right-clicking those files within Adobe Bridge. You can also set ACR's defaults for images from within Photoshop.
@threefourninetyfour - you can apply the Noise Reduction to JPGs as well. RAW gives you more flexibility, but you'll be impressed with what you can do to JPG images.
omg this helped me so much. im definitely shooting all my pictures in RAW now. maybe both actually... but definitely RAW haha. i even set up my windows the exact same as yours cause i liked this tutorial so much. i learned a lot!
my ps cs5 cant open my raw files and my lightroom can...so is it the same thing atlast l mean l can work in lightroom and transfer raw file in ps cs5 if l want...?
@lokingloking - be sure you have the latest update for PS CS5. If running LR3 and you have updated to the LR 3.3 release, you also need to update Adobe Camera RAW 6 (ACR 6) in PS to the latest version ACR 6.3. Yes, if you don't update ACR you can render RAW files in LR before sending them to PS. You can visit Adobe downloads to get the latest update patches.
@BenUriyahMay - if they worked before and stopped, I would see if running PS in 64 bit mode is a quick fix. Be aware that if the Luminance & Color sliders are set at "0" the rest of the sliders in that group become grayed out. Also you won't see the benefit of the noise reduction unless you view at 100% or greater zoom.
@ajwood2001 It works in 64 bit mode. That just makes me very upset at Nik for it's software only working in 32 bit mode. Why does this great piece of software have such a stupid downside. I gotta switch between 32 and 64 bit mode now all the time for these two things.
@BenUriyahMay - you'll be happy to know that yesterday, Nik Software updated all their plugins to be 64-bit compatible. Visit their website for details on updating your software.
i Have Cs5 But i Don't Now How To Open it. I tried opening it on bridge in one of my pics but it says"the Bridge Requires that A qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature " everytime i right click and select open in camera raw . it there any way to open it in photoshop just by its self ??? need help write back plz ?!?!
@JustWILLification - if I understand your question, you are trying to open a RAW image. If you have Photoshop goto the help menu and check for updates. This will ensure you have the latest release AND camera support. Installing PS should have installed Adobe Camera RAW which you need to see RAW files.
@ajwood2001 Ok Thx u I Have Updated To The Latest software For Camera RAW Witch is camera Raw 6.2 . I Just Want To Now How To open It So i Can use The New Noise Reduction Tool Plz Thx u i hope u can write back!!! Excuse Me For My Bad Grammar i used Last time i Was in a big Rush.
@JustWILLification - Now that Photoshop is updated to Camera RAW 6.2, you should be able to open a file from Photoshop OR Bridge. If using Adobe Bridge, right-click on the file you wish to use and choose "Open in Camera RAW". If using Photoshop select the RAW file and Camera RAW should open automatically.
@SinisterHD if you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements they both come bundled with Adobe Camera RAW. When you attempt to open a RAW file directly from Photoshop it should appear in the Camera RAW plugin first.
@SinisterHD use Adobe Bridge to select the file you want to open with Adobe Camera RAW. Within Bridge, right-click on the image and from the pulldown menu choose "Open in Camera RAW" this should happen automatically with a RAW file by default, but you can use those steps IF you want to open a JPEG file as well.
You could also use Windows Explorer, but Bridge is easier because Camera RAW shows up natively in the context pulldown menu.
@SinisterHD - Hmmmm... from Photoshop you should be able to go File-->Open then navigate the RAW file you wish to see. When you open the file, Camera RAW should launch automatically. If it does not launch then I would look at the following:
1. Camera RAW is not the current version. Download from Adobe's website (cannot embed link, goto the "Downloads" section)
Wow, now I can work with the grainy images that I have on some of my pics!

@ajwood2001 so you (or the photographer) did shoot the pic with an older camera??

@ArtistWoOoOo - that image was taken with a Canon 20D, if I remember the ISO setting was probably 800.

@SinisterHD you can launch Bridge from within Photoshop by choosing File-->Browse in Bridge or click the orange Bridge icon in the Application Bar.
A native install of Photoshop CS5 comes with Bridge & Adobe Camera RAW. The icons might not have been added to your start menu.
