  • American goths *snigger*

  • awesome video

  • as she has mentioned lots of indie designers out there. Get online and look. But truth be told, learn to sew! I'm not saying you need to design your look from the ground up, but be able to find something in a thrift store and take it home and 'Goth' it up! Example today I had on a simple gray skirt that I added black lace to the bottom.... Good luck! Contact me anytime if you need ideas!

  • I want her book and her tea pots if she have any. Why tea pots i dont know.

  • I love Jillian and her book, i've got halfway through it in 2 days, i just can't put it down! I'm even going to lend it to my mum afterward, I think she'd love it, plus there's the added bonus of her understanding me more :) such a great book!

  • I realy want this book :D

  • I got this book can't wait till it comes :D !

  • The lady of the manners has been so helpful and she makes everything seem so interesting and funny, she is definitely a great goth role model : )

  • jillian is great!

  • I really liked her book, it was entertaining and informative. I'm a more recent member of the subculture. The book and her website really helped me understand more about it. I knew enough to defend that not all Goths are Satanists or the other stereotypes, but I didn't know everything there is to know about it. I still don't. I just have a wider knowledge of the subculture now than I did when I started out, and that's good enough for this babybat.

  • I can't believe no one has called her a con artist yet. :P I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but have you ever seen the videos for "Goth charm school"? At the end shes like...."Whaaat you should do is buy myyy book!" I don't know I smell something fishy. Is there anyway my opinion could be swayed? I like her and don't want to think shes just in it for the money. :/ However I'm happy that she's at least destroying stereotypes, and with that she has my respect. :)

  • @m22frogger

I do you see your point with her marketing her book on her videos.

Well, our dear Lady of the Manners has to get her money from SOMEWHERE, right? How else can she afford those awesome ahts she wears? Would you rather have our dear Lady forced to advertise through pop up ads, or sell them in unknown shops?

I'm sure no one enjoys having to constantly say BUY MY STUFF to her loyal fans, but there aren't alot of other ways.

Hast thous opinion been swayed yet, dear snarkling?

  • @ZeKrustyKrab First and foremost your reply was adorable :) Well I guess I just nitpick the tone of voice...it seemed to commercial to me is all. However I've seen vids like this and others and she seems wonderful to be around and a very down to earth individual. :) So I have no problem believing she isn't corrupt. I just have thoughts from time to time. My friend Arriana and my Girlfriend own her book actually ^_^ My girlfriend is a hippie goth, and so am I. :)

  • @m22frogger Hippie Goth? AWESOME.

  • @ZeKrustyKrab Well I've been dressing in my dark garb as of late, but usually we're both very flowery and bright and colorful, but and not to sound cliche...but we have our dark sides. So she dresses all flowery and whatnot but loves Goth music and the subculture, and the fashion. She has subtle things in her style that say goth...like her hair, rings and necklaces etc. Me I dress in fashionable long black coats with skull buttons and tripp pants/blackskinnys. ^_^ I also love the music/history

  • @m22frogger Awww, not only do you and your girlfriend sound amazing awesome, you also sound super cute together! ^^

  • @ZeKrustyKrab Aww heehee thankies! ^_^ If you go on to my page there is a video with her and me together if you're interested in seeing us. :) Shes very adorable, and the light out my life ^_^

  • Jillian is very intelagent in Goth and what it is ive used her videos for the site am makeing for goths

  • check out Gothic Charm School right here on youtube

  • @elegantpunishment goodness! It sure looks that way! LOL!

  • you are a visionary for the goth comunity and as a goth i love your style please keep making you vids on you tube and thank you for showing outhers what we are really about

  • I love that on her websites, etc she describes goth as accepting that life isn't perfect, and finding the beauty in unexpected places. That's exactly what I think being goth is all about. Her videos and website have helped my parents come to accept my choice of being goth, and she's changing the world's view. The gothic subculture has made me feel at home, and thank you Lady Of Manners ♥

  • I want this book! :D

  • Hey for anyone who wants clothing like her's here is the web site for that clothing,,,.thedarkangel.co.uk

  • Thank god there is someone who have enough curage to tell people that there are goths like us who loves life and other spooky, morbid and yet culturle things on this planet. How I fathom a better future.

  • thank you to the lady of manners, your video's have helped my mom to get over the steriotypes people place on goths, and im hopeing to have my dad watch them and come to understand me better, thank you again

    love,Jinxx

    a kindergoth(:

  • I have that book! It's the epitome of epic.

  • I'm turning to Goth, a little bit at a time, um...is it okay to be cheery when Goth?

  • @Ankh117 this is one streiotype many people have, many goths are quit cheery like the lady of the manners say's herself"we have a great bit of black humor" we may joke about being depressed or engaging in activitys that we actually do not but we can be just as "cheery" as the next person,so to answer your question, yes, being cheery is not ever a bad thing,we goths recognize every emotion

  • She's amazing.

  • lol x im goth :) i dress normal but in black

  • how much is the gothic charm school book???

  • @Gothgirl4000 I believe it was something like $15 dollars? Something like that? It's a paperback, so it's not too pricey. :3

  • Our lady has such a way with words

  • I agree with her being the official spokesperson for Goth subculture. I enjoy her book and showed it to my friends how applaud me on my "costume" lol. They now understand it's a lifestyle, and not a costume to be worn on Halloween. xd

  • You just gotta come to Chicago!

  • Please come to Chicago, Lady! <3

  • I like her. Everything she says is true.

  • Aha, i love this. [:

  • Thank You and a big hug to The Lady of The Manners for these videos and her book. Now I can finally get my friends, family and coworkers off my back! ;p I just tell them to read the book.... maybe I should start carrying multiple copies to hand out to the truly Goth ignorant?

  • @sanguinlover Why don't you try being yourself, and stop trying to get people to like you by giving them books?

  • Goths can be any religion haha. YOur comment only proves ignorant

  • @MrArt4life devil worshippers.......hahahahahahahahahahahahaha you think goths are devil worshippers hahahahahahahahahahaha you idiot hahahahahaaha

  • I am goth, but everybody thinks my fashion style is emo. Damn the miscontrued emo subculture. It is just a cheesy spinoff of goth.

  • No, no it's not. It is it's own punk subculture. Well, real emo is. What the kids do these days isn't only similar in dress.

  • @manthatyoufear777

Yes, the Emo sterotype has a large amount of whining and negetivy even i find aynnoying. I honestly pity them...

  • If Goth needed a president, I would vote for her. She is the ultimate spokesperson for the subculture.

Dear Lady, I send you much love

  • @raynasabine well i like her just as much as any 1 but i think voltaire would be a good president if there was a goth pres lol

  • @sarkura123 excellent point!! Maybe we should move more to a King and Queen scenario ;)

  • @raynasabine hmmm to-shay i haft 2 agree with u on that :D

  • @raynasabine here here! :D

  • I really need to learn how to make my own shirts. If I find a shirt I like than its either too expensive or not in my size

  • @Artemis10001 with a little patience, sewing is quite easy. You can take classes and use patterns to help you make custom clothes. By making them, you can customize size and colors and pattern and if you get inexpensive fabric, it won't cost you very much either. I think Ms. Venters covers this herself in her very quirky book.

  • i love this lady!

  • lol,its sooo funny,i noticed 95 percent of things shed said, about being a true goth and not a phaze, and everythgi else,id said before or had in commen with

  • I dont think you should have to have pale skin to be goth. I think us goths should just learn to be more accepting of other goths even if they arent quite the same goth style as you. Seriously who wants to hang with clones of yourself? How the hell are you suppoused to experience new and interesting things if you all have the same style? Its fun to bounce ideas from say a victorian goth and a deathrocker goth. Keeps things interesting.

  • so true about the pale thing,i mean people think i take goth so serious because im pale, its just casuse i cant tan,im sooo fairskinned, all i do is burn,

plus i noticed some so called goths paint their face white,it gets rather old!plus,i couldnt imagine doing it,my teeth would look so yellow, lol

  • I don't even bother with white makeup. Its usually greasey and never goes on evenly! Plus it usually makes people look like reject mimes. No thanks. I have found a little eye make-up and lipstick can go a long way.

  • really!!it either creases horribley or does end up geasey, and if youd want it to stay, you could set it with powder, but, youd feel like your face would be just caked with it,so heavy!!

lol, ever tried itching your nose with it on??doesnt wok,LOL!!!

lol,an i know what you mean, youd be supprised how important just the eyes are,and if have that down, your good to go:)

  • I have tried Itching my nose with it on! It all rubs off on your hands or your gloves so you look like an idiot who didnt wear their makeup right and then everything you touch gets white stuff all over it!

On another note who need to wear 3 pounds of makeup everyday? Its takes forever to put on and then youre always taking ANOTHER 15 minutes every hour or so to fix it later

  • LOL,soo true:),

i mean,im sure theirs pro ones, but who wants tp pay 25 bucks for a little tube/bottle,if youd onyl being wearing it for so long

LOL!i know that one, sometimes my browns takes me more than 30 min, thats why i try and practise,i find simple but greats ways to do my makeup

  • I find Simple is better, its quick and while its not as extravagaent as most peoples it also doesnt look like terrible drag queen makeup or (god forbid) halloween makeup

  • @DressxToxDepress your so lucky... it's annoying when people asked where did you get that tan.... i tan so easily the only good thing is i don't burn as much ... but that's pointless for me anyways

  • i guess i would be to a point, but people think im always inside or covered up,so thats why im so pale, and they think id over do the pale goth look, lol

but truth is; i could be out every day of summer and just not get any darker

and with that said, after a verry short time,i burn so bad, peel, and blister horribley,

at one time i was out too long and i blistererd everywhere!!for months!!:(:(

thats the downside of having fair skin,

  • my sister has that problem... i only got sunburn like once and that is because i fell asleep exposed

  • i am so embaressed i am of the darker cloth and a sexualy deviante oh whats a pretty goth boy to do.

  • i goth, but i have such taned sink,i really want my sink to be pale, but nothing i try works,i been waering my jacke ever day for three mounths now trying to get my sink un-taned,but its not working

  • You could always research recipies for simple skin bleach. Common ingredients are lemon, milk and flour. You can make a facial mask and a mixture to bathe in. :) Trust me they do help!

  • use bleach

  • dont try to make ur self pale. im a tan goth n i look fine. just look for things that look good on your body. :)

  • or,theirs one on youtube for lemon juice, yogurt, and milk

  • How interesting, I am a Native American Goth and trying for pale skin, that's a big no-no for me. I rather like my darker goldish tan that I get in the summer. perhaps I should send Miss Gothic Manners a Letter.

  • thats great,:)tan can be so beautiful though:)

  • she always had the greatest hats/hair accesories/the like

  • we;; you all seem cool im all ways on msn if anyone wants to be friends just ask

  • My gothic wardrobe leans more to the more punkish flavor of the spectrum, but I am considering adding some victorian and formal to my warbrobe.:)

  • WoW Its very nice to see other goth's around cuss in my country where very wear i mean i am the only one i havent seen a singel one Gah!!

  • Thanx *vv*

  • Vintage and thrift shops, mostly from sewing and creating your own clothing, and from shops that specialize in victorian clothing.

  • Where can i buy Victorian Goth clothes like hers? :)

  • @sosweet425 I think she buys some of her clothes and I think she sometimes makes them.

  • @sosweet425 go to her website and she has links to some good places to start :)

  • @sosweet425 You can try kambriel. The band Faith and the Muse buys some of their clothes from there.

  • @sosweet425

from what i can gather, She either had customized some things she had, or had purchased them from small gothic shops on the web and in conventions. :D

  • @sosweet425 Try the webshop Retroscope Fashions

They have a lovely selection :)

  • @sosweet425

Whitby (If you're lucky enough to go on holiday there)

    Gair-Noir.co.uk

    The-Gothic-Shop.co.uk

(Not advertising. Sorry if it seems like i am.)

Loads of Goth shops do :) Just look for goth shops on Google. Or type in the type of Garment you want. :)
