  • you're a very talented person. great vids, keep them up

  • i like laying down in my neighbor's yard and pretending i'm a carrot.

  • you sound weirdly like Bob Geldof. :P

    great cover

  • very nice playing. nice voice too.

  • Tutorial? Sheet music? Anything please! :D

  • I'm going to do this song for a project in Choir class, and I'd like to thank you for certain inspiration re: playing this song.

  • please make a tutorial

  • hey, i play the piano and i absolutely love this song, i'd love it if you could maybe either make a tutorial video, put on tab or sheet music for it cause there isn't any out now and i'd love to learn this, get back to me :)

  • I think because the camera is os far away I really stuggle to hear your voice and the lyrics in this vid. All the others are ace (who cares if it's lo-fi) but I can't here the words!

  • What's the song called that you go into just after the solo, and just before "I'm not a real doctor"? I like what you did there.

  • @Dogmantra2 It is "I Enjoy Being a Boy" by the Banana Splits. Can't claim it was an original idea to break into that - I heard Linnell do it! And Flansburgh covered the song on podcast #1.

  • @astralbee Thank you so much! I looked it up, and over the past two months, it's become one of my favourite songs. Yet another musical success for you :D

  • Despite the slightly tinny recording, this is an amazing cover of SCIENTIFICALLY the world's best song. How do I know? Because I AM a real doctor.

  • You are amazing. You need to go on tour or something.

  • is there a place where i can download these??

  • Wow. your amazing... do you have the notes? id like to learn this song.

  • WOOPS

  • I can tell clearly that part of the reason you do these covers is because it is fun and musically awesome, but also as a tribute to one of the greatest musical groups ever - have the Johns given you kudos for this? I hope so.

  • Exactly right - I'm not on a mission to show the world how great I am. It's just fun. These are like the lowest fidelity recordings I could make. It is just really easy for me to stick my camera on record when I'm playing. Ten minutes later its online!

  • That's totally awesome! But is there any chance you're going to release the sheets for it? C:

  • Brilliant arrangement. When you sing, it sounds a little like you're trying to sound like Bob Dylan or something. I think it would sound a little effort if you actually put a little less effort into the singing and just let it flow out of you.

  • I love how you inserted some of "I Enjoy Being A Boy"!!! Once, again, totally awesome cover, you are an amazing musician! :D

  • Well, you should do either `Purple Toupee` or `I Palindrome I`.

I haven`t seen the rest of your videos, so maybe you`ve done that....

  • .... I love you.

  • do you have the notes. i want to see if i can play this on my base. this is my favorite song by them.

  • Awesome awesome!

  • you're really good. I know your strength is piano, but you should have a mike for your voice...I think maybe try putting a carpet under the piano because it has too strong of a sound for some of these songs.

  • man your great but its phisicly impossible to be better than either linnell or flansburgh but your real close

  • You should do "Birdhouse in your Soul".

I'm sure you could do a great job on it.

  • Thanks. I haven't done Birdhouse because the original idea behind these videos was to show how TMBG songs could be arranged on piano. There is already sheet music available for Birdhouse, so it seemed pointless. Perhaps one day...

  • Obviously a VERY solid perfromance...one criticism given with respect: too much headroom in the framing of your video. Thank you for the post!! I love TMBG.

  • I love the "Enjoy Being a Boy" bridge in there. Very well done. I hope you do loads more of these!

  • I've been looking for a recording of tmbg doing Dr Worm with the Enjoy Being A Boy bridge.. anyone got a link?

  • That is so awesome. <3

  • Brilliant job---could you tell me how to go about arranging a song for piano? I'd like to try my hand at arranging my favorite songs for just piano, and you've done a stellar job on several songs.

  • I really couldn't begin to describe how I arrange them. Its all in my head! I would say that I focus on rythm. Blending chord-bashing with some scaling helps mimick the guitar based rythms.

  • Thanks for replying, I'm gonna arrange some songs I like, and appreciate any help.

  • awesome... i love this song, and you play exquisitly. keep at it, make more and more! i'd like to hear don't lets start... lol...

  • Thanks - I will try and do DLS next batch!

  • sweet, can't wait

  • yeah i heard the first podcast, that was totally unexpeced though! i've unfortunately never seen them live.

and that change took me by surpirze. loved it.

  • now that's talent! very VERY well done!

  • I love your covers, especially this one and Mammal!

  • I think you sing some new lyrics in there-- what are they and are they part of the real song? :O :3

  • Well spotted. It is the first verse of "I Enjoy Being A Boy" by The Banana Splits. Flansburgh covered this song for the first TMBG podcast, but long before that it was one of many songs that Linnell inserted into the break of 'Dr Worm' at live shows.

  • I really like your arrangement :) !

  • Oh, so YOU'RE Darrell. Nice piano playing.

  • Nicely done! I understand you may not have access to other recording equipment besides I guess a Camcorder. Sometimes it's hard to hear your voice because of it.
