I know what happend.. it is the rubber inside of the propeller that got worn..where I live they dont change this rubber so i'd have to buy the whole new propeller but maybe where you live you can just get them to fix the propeller .. it is normal...after time this rubber gets worn ..
the problem is lack of fuel issue! thats all! more than likely dirty carb. or idle needle valve is turned in (lean) too much! But, it could also be an air leak, a bad carb. gasket will allow more air than fuel to be pulled into the cylinders causing coughing!
i have had this problem before on my tohatsu 25hp. it was a blown head gasket, due to corrosion. causing water in cylinders resulting in the miss when running.
MY GUESS THE IDLE JET IS TO LEAN, OR IF SOME ONE HAS WORKED ON THIS MOTOR THE BUTTERFLY IS OUT OF SINK REFUR TO THE REPAIR MAN. IT WILL WALK U THROUGH HOW TO LINK &SINK
sounds like the motor isn't getting enough gas, that's why it only stays onwhen you rev it. You need to clean the carberators and then use new fuel with some fuel treatment. Will run like a champ.
Well, its a little late maybe, but the low speed adjustment needs a 1/2 turn one way or another and she will smooth rite out! When she coughs(like now) you went to far! back her off a little until smooth at idle, and then run the shiiit out of her! LOL! Peace!
crap in the reeds...along with bad gas, water in float bowl, stuck metering valve, water in fuel, improper gas/oil mixture, clogged fuel filter, timing not advancing

Clean your carburetor jets

sounds to me that the fuel tank vent is not open or the gas cap on too tight

should always run with a good fuel filter

Something like this happened to my boat and it was a broken shear pin.

my guess, fuel pump. seems its not getting the fuel it needs to keep it firing. does the squeeze ball get soft while running?

might be head gasket!

Spitting lean....Not real uncommon for these engines....Especially in neutral....
Make sure it is getting up to temperature, check the cam pick up adjustment, and you may have to enrichen the idle mixture slightly....

Dirty reeds? Will it idle at lower speed?
