  • THANK YOU this was som much easier than I was making it. Well done apreciate the help!

  • @hiddeninromance The relative minor of G major is E minor. 1 sharp. A minor has no sharps (via being the relative minor of C major). But yeah, this guy's got some mistakes.

  • Wrong. First play G then Bm, not just 2nd fret Low E string, sounds better with a barred Bm. When he says now everything's imaginary don't play a D, stay on Am when he sings especially what you love play a D7.

  • thanks!

Now I know how to play chords...sweet!!

    XD

  • What does he mean by the "strings" make him feel nauseous?

  • The D is definitely a D7, and the second chord you play is supposed to be a Bminor

And the chorus is well off...there is definitely no eminor...the first chord of the chorus is actually the relative minor (Aminor), and again you should really make sure you listen out for the subtleties of the 7ths in the chorus it's what makes it sound so dreamlike.

  • @hiddeninromance didt see this comment, jus commented the same.

  • @hiddeninromance The relative minor of G major is E minor. 1 sharp. A minor has no sharps, and is the relative minor of C major. But yeah, this guys has some mistakes, and that first chord is Am.

  • @whitenight406 I meant the relative minor of what he played. I.E. the first chord he played in the chorus was a C, when in reality it is an Aminor (the relative minor of C)

  • can you tab the little riff part after the C?

  • I can't figure out how to do the hammer/picking part after the C chord.

  • the d you play sounds like a D7 in the song..i may be wrong though

  • exactly right and it doesn't change nearly as fast as how he plays it the D7 is crucial for that nauseating feel, something that repeating the phrase Aminor to Dmajor loses

  • Haha every song I hear by bright eyes, I'm like where is that TecumsehBand guy? teach me :]

  • haha, thanks!

  • Hey bro you did an amazing job covering Lime Tree, I'm envious over it. Do you think you could send me tabs by messanging me or post tabs on the side to help as a guide. I really want to learn this.

  • hey, i dont have a tab for it. sorry.

    i learned it by ear.

im sure there are tabs on the internet though.

  • i sort of have the chord written out in the video description though. did you check those out?

  • this really is a beautiful song on a pretty mediocre album...

  • what interview was it? could you post a link? thanks!

  • it was on the bright eyes podcast i think. just search it in the itunes store. its free to listen to.

  • ok. thanks! :)

  • sorry man but you're quite a bit off.

  • i think the second chord is a Dsus or some kind of D not a G/F#

thats how i play it anyways

  • Great video! By any chance do you know what makes that really distorted screachy sound in the background in the original recording?

  • im not 100% sure what you are talking about...

the only thing that i can think of is the strings.

  • nice video man, you should do first day of my life

  • thank you so much, this video was really helpful.

  • no problem. thanks for watching.

  • the strings actually made me naeseous when i first heard it and had to turn it off. i didnt know i was the only one who thought so! i love this song.

  • actually you are not. oberst said the exact same thing.

  • TecumsehBand I love your videos <3.

Bright Eyes is one of my favorite bands. It's great how much easier you manage to make things.

I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to make out what you're playing during a certain riff of this song though. You go though it really fast in the video. It's played throughout the piece, but comes out first around 0:56, right after an open C major chord.

Can you please explain to me how this part should be played, or tell me what notes you're hitting?

  • ya, you hit an open on the g string then hammer on the 2nd fret, then pull off, then hit an open string again. then do the same thing for the d string.

  • everyone is asking for stuff so i feel kindof bad....but could you do something 'going for gold'? i would be ridiculously thankful.

this video was quite helpful. i had to change the key for my singing voice though but its easier to get the basic deal if you can watch somone else do it. thanks for your work!

  • hey, i already have a video for going for the gold.

    check it out.

  • thanks a million! i've played guitar for 3 months now and your videos have taught me alot. please do easy/lucky/free when you have the time.

  • ill think about it. thanks.

  • thanks a lot, easy but beautiful song... being new to guitar (first song i've ever tackled actually) the internet has proven to be a vital tool, and this is just... a godsend, words can't describe lol.. keep on making these videos, for angsty teens the world round... it's simply fantastic, you should really do "waste of paint" sometime in the future though... that's a groovy tune :)

  • thanks for the kind words. ill think about doing 'waste' in the future.

  • thanks!

  • thx dude!!! nice post

  • thank you!

  • oh wow! at last a video that actually does help.

thanks. no let's see if i can manage it :)

  • its pretty easy once you get the chord progression down.

  • sorry if this has been asked before or something, but could you/ or someone, tab out that little riff you play? thnx!

  • oh nevermind, I got it

  • i always put the chords in the video description.

  • The Dmaj you love jumping to is actually a D7. Look it up. And go easy on it. You're totally overthinking the whole song.

  • Hey, thanks for the video, it's great help. What's the strum pattern though? I'm pretty new to the guitar and can't seem to pick it up. Thanks again.

  • ive had people ask me that in the past with other videos and i dont really know how to answer. i am not a very skilled musician and i dont really get time signatures. sorry. the best i can say is watch my right hand and try and pick up on it.

  • Thanks, this was very helpful. I just heard them play this at a concert and wanted to play it at open mic tonight so you made it very easy for me :)

  • cool, how did that go?

  • It was okay, at first, but after the first verse the words all slipped my mind and I said "OK guys, screw that, next song."

    Maybe next time.

  • ya next time. good luck with that. when my friends and i get drunk and play bright eyes songs we end up playing 1 verse and a chorus and thats that. i ALWAYS forget the words.

  • maybe make a video of you playing it as a response to this one???

  • I saw this live last night and the strings are amazing. . .there's a flute player that took the show. . .especially in "First Day of my Life". . .but that's an older song. . .

  • was that at the royal oak show??

  • where's this interview where he talks about lime tree? the strings are so amazing. personally this and Coat Check Dream Song are my faves, just cause theres little folk in them and they are purely original

  • on the nme track by track

  • thanks

  • i thought so too until i realized that the chords are vertical and should be read left to right. so basically verse is G-C-Am-D-C and chorus is C-D-G-G/F#-Em-B7-C-G

  • ya, but i dont know what the 2nd chord in the song would be called. i wrote it out like that because a lot of people dont know the names of chords.

  • I think I know what he means. The nausea thing, I mean.

  • ya they are really overpowering, but at the same time really cool.

  • I love this album! My favourite song has to be Make A Plan to Love Me

  • im really a big fan of if the breakman turns my way. and this one.

  • That is a good song. For me its a toss up between this one and if the breakman turns my way.

  • I'd like to see the interview you mean where he says the strings make him Nauseous.
