  • You posted the lyrics for the Annie Lennox version buddy.

  • They are both REALLY good versions. though i think this one is more my style. not saying Annie Lennox's version is lesser. they are both equally great. just this one feels more for me. *shrugs*

  • Hutch N SeaNanners.

  • the fucking banner!!!!!

  • thank you thank you thank you for this - I have their original cassette tape & have ALWAYS loved this version !! EXCELLENT!!

  • sings better than anne

  • this version is awesome

  • It sounds like he is singing "The language is leaving me exiled."

  • @jamesedwardtheobald: now this is strange. Yesterday night - say around 16 hours ago I first came back to watch this video since the day I had written my latest comment. Thinking I really shouldn t have written it as it's pointing at someone's error - doing which isnt really relevant to the video itself. And now here's your reply to it!! (yrs, but let's not justify grammar everpresent mistakes please!!)

  • @uffx3 It's not yesterday night. It's LAST night.

  • @Seaventeares: I see your point, you are impersonating some kind of "avenger" now. Let's see... English is not my first language, and that wasn t a grammar error. Furthermore, in Italy we'd indifferently say "last night" or "yesterday night". But your check will be taken into account, thanks.

  • @uffx3 @Seaventeares glad that this lovely song gathers some arguements here, by the way; (I LOVE YOUs) is a name of a flower i guess..so simple he is telling ...no more flowers for you..do you agree ?

  • @anyonewitheyes Good you are there, so that I can personally thank you for posting this unique-of-a-kind video and song. Never ever heard this song before I saw this video of yours. To address your question: the lyrics are slighly different from A.L's version and to me there lies most of the song significance, in those words.

  • @anyonewitheyes and I didnt know there was a flower with such a name, how sad. On another note, I see you are fron Syria. The criminal usa government is looking for excuses to wage a war on your country. I just want to express my support to your country and I do hope you'll be safe.

  • @uffx3 back in 90s i remember i was very young ..on a dark night ..i was listenning to this song but to Annie's version...on a tape...then that sentence (i love yous) confused my whole process of learning english for a while , till i read somewhere on a longman dictionary i guess that its a name of a plant or a flower...not sure if joseph hghes and david freeman ment that while writting the song

  • @anyonewitheyes hm, did it confuse you? well, it is the plural of a sentence instead that a single word. No more being told/saying the sentence 'i love you'. No more "i love you"s. it's like putting the s to make the plural, just you'll.use the apostrophe to show it's an irregular usage.

  • @uffx3 thanks for your worries about my safety, yes we have issues there, but we are not an oil country to say that USA is running after our money , we are poor there. Its a complicated matter..as complicated as freedom is.

  • @anyonewitheyes I know, that's why I wrote they are looking for excuses. Had they had the habit to wait for REAL reasons before attacking, they couldn t have attacked a single country.

  • @uffx3 sorry if I upset you. I wouldn't do that on purpose. I apologise for that. Best wishes Seaventeares

  • @Seaventeares please do not worry! I'm not touchy and you improved my English, so thanks. Far from being upset, I was a bit taken by surprise; but I then appreciated your concern and stood corrected; now I appreciate your kindness. Thanks again

  • Hi They just meant for the person singing to say that he/she wasn't going to say 'I love you' again, that is why the lyric states: 'no more 'i love yous.' When my son died I wrote a song for him which had the words, 'No lullabyes, no kiss goodnight, no dry your eyes, 'cos, hey everything's gonna be alright.' It is sort of on the same lines as no more I love yous.

  • sherbet do they do do do bob = No More I Love yous - Lover Speaks. i just wanted to put this on a website so that when people get drunk and cant remember the name of this song and the only thing they can remember is the scat part through out the song they get a return on a search engine. ;)

  • It is difficult to judge between the two versions...annie lennox did make this song all her own, but then you got to give it to the original as it was there first. Lennox seems to change the tone of the song just enough to gice it a different emphasis. The original is etheral and melancholy, where as her version is orchestral, 'dirge' like and bizarre. Both done with equal skill. On a purely personal level I may go for the original, seeing as it is the original and I nostalgically love synth!

  • I prefer this version.

  • Original version of the song rocks. Annie's version is pop.

  • It's hard to say who had the better version. I go back and forth between the two. Hate Annie's video though. As noted previously it's very creepy. I can't watch it.

  • F**kin awesome!

  • What about seeing some sort of connection - Dave Stewart - and love of good female voices (Alison Moyet)?

  • @Xozona: hm. What about typing typically correct English grammar, as for example 'its' per possessive adjective, instead than "it's" which simply makes no sense at all?

  • @uffx3 i was struggling with seeing the apostrophe on the plural of a noun in the titles elsewhere, but the use of the apostrophe is 'stylized' in the case of :You's", especially since it helps from hearing the internal (or external) pronunciation as a hard 's' at the end (which would sound like the Brooklyn accented 'hey youse guys!'. it's and 'its' are definitely stumbling blocks for lots of folks, owing to the irregularity. ah, sigh, english; ya gotta love it!

  • I like them both and I think the people who bash Annie Lennox over the cover she did are being hysterical.

  • I forgot I heard this in 86 then thought Annie did an okay job with it then heard Nicki's version and loved that. Hearing the original now I have to say this is a gorgeous song and the lover speaks singer sings this with a enormous amount of heart and a frightning amount of passion. Why wasn't this a hit the first time again?

  • Comment removed

  • i adore this song, dark and brooding, should have been massive.

  • Probably the best version

  • I knew I'd heard this before..........

  • I like this one better.

  • How perfect and tearing...

  • Annie's version sounds like an annoying la-di-da Disney song in comparison. This original is more like it - gothic and moody and a way of mending a broken heart!

  • This one...

  • First- The Lover Speaks Second- Annie Lenox Last- Nicki Minaj

    wow, who's next...

  • @Msleaboo Rhydian.its on his new album WAVES, trust me its good

  • I think this original is more powerful and emotional than Annie Lennox's version. I like the chorus in this version better, but i prefer how Annie does the verses. I kinda see this song as a sad, emotional song and I see Annie's as an upbeat song. I like them both :)

  • I prefer this version...

  • I always like this version the best. And to me it's really the only version. Wish I could get it on iTunes.

  • DAMN YOU NICKI!!!!!!! STEALING ALL 80'S SONGS. Unforgivable!

  • The entire album is GOLDEN! David Freeman (singer, songwriter) can also be heard in duet with Alison Moyet in "Sleep Like Breathing." This band was promoted by the Eurythmics on tour, but their label failed them. There is a second album, but it was never released. A preview cassette went on eBay for over $70.

  • I like annie's version better, this is deeper & more powerful, but too emotional to listen to when I'm just having background music on when doing work

  • fantastic song from the summer of 86 why was it never a hit ? no 58 maybe because it was before there time.the lp was more of the same very powerful pop ballads, they released another single the cover of i close my eyes and count to ten,got that on 12" can someone upload it on you tube please

  • One of the classics from the 1980's you now remember...too late now 40's something, still they were great times.

  • great song,good album,my sort o stuff

I guess they are all lovers.

  • @bladerunner6 Probeer deze clip eens om te zetten naar mp3 met You Tube Get of soortgelijk leuk programmaatje....

En waaom iedereen Engels spreekt? I guess they are all lovers.

  • great video great song ... so touching

in my language the name of that song was translated like "i dont love you any more" i was really upset x( :(((((( stupid people

  • very underrated Indeed!

  • I always thot this was originally Annies song !!!

  • This song has a forever timeless Angelic quality...SO GOOD!!!

  • as much as I love Annie Lennox, the original version is much better than hers... a lost classic.

  • Wow it's amazing to see how beautifully songs transition into one decade to the next

first the original version by the band "Lover Speaks" in 1986 then on to be covered by Annie Lennox in 1995 then in 2010 Nicki MInaj sampled the doobie doobie doop doop doop in your love ( Listen to all of them and melt in amazement!!!)

  • Never thought Annie Lennox was a cover. This version is way above that even though it is one of my all time fave tunes.

  • I love Annie Lennox version but this original is so much more powerful and heartfelt.

  • this is my step dad. from Millie hilditch gray.

  • This is one of the great influences of annie lennox but I really prefer this version

  • This is clearly the best version. It is the original and came out in 1985 during the midst of the alternative revolution. It fit the times perfectly and it was very popular under ground. BTW, another great tune from them is EVERY LOVERS SIGN which was also very popular amongst us punk rockers under ground

  • My first love....

  • Annie missed the point of this song..he is splaying his guts out here... its *pretty* but a very *somber sad pretty*...

  • its really hard to decide for me. I've been listening to Annie's version since it came out and I'm just now hearing this Original version. I must say both songs are really amazing and so very powerful.

  • This is an excellent melody, no matters who performs it.

  • Makes Annie Lennox sound like George Formby!

  • Makes Annie Lennox sound like George Formby!

  • the two versions are just so powerful!! this is great..is scary

  • STILL SOUNDS GOOD

  • To this day I will never understand how this album did not sell 20 million copies - it must be the most underrated classic ever.

  • Wow So Nicki Minaj copyed off Annie and Annie copyed off Lover Speaks! I must be a TRUE Nicki minaj fan because i never would of though she copyed off such a Oldd Song! She was olny 2yrs old when this song came out! lol

  • Totally agree MoodyBlues - remember shouting 'No!' out loud when I first heard Annie's version in the car on the way to work. Forgive her though cause 'Love Song For A Vampire' was excellent

  • Why hasn't anyone arrested Annie Lennox for the brutal murder of this song? She took a powerful gut-wrenching emotive piece into a skipping-thru-the-fields frou-frou joke. She did similar injustices to Procul Harem and Bob Marley as well. What's the statute of limitations on murder, anyway?

  • @Moody86Blues

Annie's version is much more subtle than this one. It is more pleasant to the ear, in my opinion.

    -H-

  • it's hard to listen to this version. annie's cover is heads above better than the original.

  • i hate how everyone thiks annie's version is the orginal...

  • One of the best 100 albums ever released. I have vinyl and first print CD...Never to depart from me. What song writers....what passion....what happened to this in music?

  • @Bigwheelneil 2 simple words....X - factor....Simon Cowell has single handedly destroyed the music industry,he had a bit of help years ago by that other tw*t Pete Waterman,I hope they both rot in hell

  • Thank you!!

  • Wow, both the original version and annie lennox's version seem equally good. How often does -that- happen?

  • Wow, both the original version and annie lennox's version seem equally good. How often does -that- happen?

  • The best thing is though, many folk out there think that this was an Annie Lennox song, don't get me wrong btw,she did the song a great justice, just wasn't as good as this one ;)

  • This song over , over the Mainstream garbage any day ,

  • Thanks for posting this rare video, what memories it revives for me. Feeling quite melancholy now. If you don't have the CD, it is a must have; especially if you like this song.

  • omygod i finally found this song! i have it on an old 80s cassette!!! im so happy!

  • This is the best version by far,the depth of it is unbelievable and thats saying something when compared with the super talent of Annie Lennox

  • I think the original is just as awesome as Annie's version. She was able to make it her own without making it sound like a direct cover. Thats what makes her version so popular, it's a shame that this one isn't as popular...

  • It's weird. Nicki Minaj sampled Annie Lennox's version, which in itself was a remake of this.

  • For any twat-headed hack who's thinking of doing a Eurythmics re-appraisal.

  • Cool!

  • I bought this back in the eighties & still have the 45. Whilst there's no denying Annie Lennox' brilliance, you have to concede that this original is by far the greater version. I heard la Lennox' take on radio the other day -despite not having heard the original for years it just felt flat, tired unconvincing by comparison. Listening to the original again now, it sounds just as great as when it first came out & has a real richness to it with imaginative instrumentation & production quality.

  • Annie Lennox is waaaaaaay much better.

  • @seth2901 you must have something blocking your ears....

  • This.

  • I liked Annie's NMILY - because I had never heard the original ... but IMHO TLS totally owns this song.

  • I love this version and immediately adopted it into my music collection when it originally came out here in the states. Annie Lennox has done some brilliant work but her version of this song is second rate. This guy's in a class all his own. I loved "The Lover Speaks" the instant I listened to this song.

  • "I used to have demons in my room at night-------desire, despair, desire...SOOOO many monsters....OH but NOW ----- I don't catch myself bouncing home whistling buttonhole tunes to make me cry...No more I love yous..."

*Original song by The Lover Speaks-anything thereafter second rate, even Annie Lennox, sorry to say.

  • this whole album is AMAZING ! one of the best debut albums of all time and sadly their only official release ! If you love this song ...find the cd ! It's breathtaking !

  • I love this version!

  • I like Annie Lennox, despite her being posibly the most sour of all our musical stars (and these days, her voice has gone from sublime to frankly painful), but her version of this classic single is nothing short of abysmal - I balked when I heard she'd covered it, retched when I heard how she'd ruined it and made a gorgeous, unusual ant-love song into a MOR, bland, boring love song.

  • The original sounds good, but AL refined and polished it, I think. I prefer Lennox's version.. she makes it more personal and emotional. I feel the lyrics more with her version; the vocals on the original just distracted me, sounded too exasperated..

  • one of the best tracks of all time!

  • i like this version much more then annie lennox's version, her version creeps me up, feels like somthing you should'nt let children listen to.. :)

  • @ytube54able How about nicki minaj's version, lol!

  • It has to be this version. First up it's authentic 80s power balladry. Its also got Marr-y guitars at the end. Also the singer has the perfect fractured voice for the content.

It's a beautiful song, produced in the same decade it was written it! Must beat Annie's version (which was also very good) for these reasons. Discuss. :)

  • you gotta luv the originals. annies version wouldnt have been possible without this

  • yeah i really can't tell which version is better however i do love annie lenox... i think it really sucks when the non-original versions r better cause its like they aren't the creators yet we give them more credit for making a better song

  • I just played this to my wife and she was mortified at how bad he is singing she tells me:(( She said it sounds like ME trying to sing:(LOL! She then tells me that I am tone deaf and have no taste in music:((

  • I don't hear these lyrics like I do in the Annie Lennox version.. Is this a shorter version of the original song??

    "They were being really crazy

    They were on the come.

    And you know what mammy?

    Everybody was being really crazy.

    Uh huh.

    The monsters are crazy.

    There are monsters outsides."

    Danny Jimenez

    aka Numanoid17

  • I have to admit that I like Annie Lennox version much better... just being honest:)

    Danny Jimenez

    aka Numanoid17

  • bye bye heart...

  • Annie Lennox version is better

  • no way not a patch on this classic

  • @88gretschman i still say that her version is way better than this

  • this group was great ...all the songs of this album are beauty....i like very much....

  • I believe the lyric is " don't catch myself bouncing home whistling buttonhole tunes to make me cry" I only know because I still have the original album!! Thanks for posting!

  • thx for posting, the other one was taken off , prob by WMG, knobs

  • I like this version. especially the synthesizer.

  • It's nice, good because true and I prefer this version

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I gave up trying to remember who the original artist was years ago because I could never find it! I do believe that this version is superior to A.Lennox's, although I like her take on this mysterious ballad as well. Is my preference due to the associations I made back in the early 80's or do others feel the same?

  • This is almost too powerful. Probably scared some away back in the pop-happy days of the 80's.

The years have done this song justice.

  • @prod1gy3000 youre right this songs is way too powerful..very advance for is time? what year did this albm come out?

  • @prod1gy3000 except Nicki Minaj

  • @prod1gy3000 The 80s were split: Musicians from Britain brought New Wave and also New Romance, spearheaded by bands like this, Everything But The Girl, Style Council, Spandau Ballet.

  • @prod1gy3000 um really? to me this is typical 80s British sound that a bunch of other artists were successful with at the time....not unlike The Smiths, Kate Bush, etc. They all did well for themselves making not so upbeat music. The darker side of the 80s music scene most definitely held it's own for many years. Even the more synthy new wave groups like Soft Cell, Talk Talk and Tears for Fears stayed far away from fluffy subject matter. The 80s wasn't all legwarmers and my little ponies...

  • 5 stars ....FANTASTIC

  • remember hearing this for the first time back in the 80,s it made my cry...... just one of them songs a one hit from no where

  • Thank you, I have never seen this. Of course Annie's version is more well known, but it is always nice to see the original artists.

  • awesome

  • Wow :p Thought original came from Annie Lenox !

    nice
