Could you add in a feature to save the height/color maps? Because this has a lot of potential, and could be used for more than just gaming (though this would make map creation a lot easier for a lot of games, for example Halo PC map creation would be a lot easier with this if you just save the height/texture maps).
Is xna game studio the same thing as this or are they both diffrent softwares? When I download XNATerrainEditor.exe if gives me an error and says xna terrain has encountered a problem and needs to close. Someone help me out please.

Its made in C# 2005 with XNA.
Many programs that arent Very professionally created wont work in vista. I have troubles daily with some stuff i download. Vista has troubeling reading some problems. :/

The editor isn't for sale, and doesn't come with a license. You can use this version however you like but don't forget others can too. But I don't know when I'll be releasing it, I already got another project that I have to release first.
think about a book or rather a novel with approximately 200 pages. then think about all of those 200 pages being one giant algebra, triq, logic, and physic problem and you will know how much programming is required.
It used the good old WinForms, just add the reference to your project.. but if you intend to run your program in fullscreen then using WinForms becomes a problem. I did write a GUI (not shown here) if you need one, it's called xWinForms. (see my videos)

Yes, LOUSY, it is FAR slower than the Dark GDK [also made by the game creators]. I have used the Dark GDK, and I still concider it to be inferior to XNA. So that would put Dark BASIC somewhere WAYYYYY down there on the totem pole for game devlopment suites available for free or reasonable prices.

Its a projectile class that checks the ground height at every point in time and when it touches the ground it triggers DigHole() which I put in the heightmap class for that specific test.
The video was from an earlier version of the editor, that's why there was a build button. The editor you have calculate the normals (lighting) as you edit so there was no need anymore for a build button. As for the water the one included with the source code was not reflecting properly so it was taken out (you could put it back if you want, see Editor.cs line 116 and 231-239, just un-rem and u'll also need 2 textures)
xna is great, but 1st must understand well oop concept(c# in detail)..or it's gonna be quite time consuming if u wanna built a large game that contain many functions and fetching data from file(s)..

xna is only a framework, the programming is all done in C#, that is what you'll have to be good at. Personally I've been using C# only since XNA came out (Oct. 2006). You'll be able to find a lot of C# tutorials on the web, even some video tutorials. And there is a lot of information on the XNA site which is really helpful as well as the help files provided with the XNA framework which are accessed through C# Help->How To.
its not for any game in particular. It can be used to produce a terrain heightmap (grayscale bitmap) or colormap (RGBA) that some game use to create the terrain. But in this condition it's mostly for programmers to learn from.

Yes its because you run vista.

Programs are never compatible with programs from the future ;P
You must manually convert the whole project from 2005-code to 2008-code.
