1) real TKD uses arms, elbows etc., just like hkd. Olympic TKD rules are NOT real TKD!
2) kicks are not exactly the same. Further, TKD is more straight and a hard style (blocking with musclepower), HKD is a soft style: uses circle movement to turn energie of attacker against him
3) punching and kicking are ofensive attacks in HKD ('preventive self defence'), main techniques of HKD are locks, bars & throws.
sure - no question you are right. every system has its principles - tkd says the legs has most range & power of the body, which is a fact.
i am no teakwondoin, but what i experienced as an "outsider" is that there are big differences from school to school in tkd. some instructor do tkd as a sport, other do self defence, some do competition & olympics. By that range there are huge differences.
Another point is that a lot of korean masters do hkd AND tkd and teach that as one of them.
@krtica2 This was the hapkido demo team, not the Taekwondo Korean Tigers demo team. Although there are some 'combat hapkido' demo teams that utilize a lot of kicking with hkd techniques following them.
you cant, because all those acrobatics and flipping stuff will probably kill you :). doing break falls is hard enough. if you really wanna do all the crazy flippy shit you see take up tricking and gymnastics, i think these are the K-tigers and basically they do demos, so they have to be super energetic and extra flippy and stuff. but ordinary hapkido is alot of joint manipulation and meditative stuff with some striking. i love hpkd. but i also like tricking. sorry if i sound kinda douchey :)
I am doing Hapkido now as well. I already do a forward hand spring and just started learning the backwards hand spring. I am only a yellow belt, but I am fairly agile. Some of the black belts can do the flips as well. I use striking, throwing, joint manipulation and takedowns. The on thing we don't really concentrate on is meditation...I am in Bucheon, South Korea which is literally right next to Incheon.
Our club does all that flip and acrobatics stuff it just takes time there is nothing mystical it just takes a lot of practice and an instructor who knows what they are doing

what a weird choice of martial arts, why combine 2 similar martial arts when u can combine another martial art with hapkido (because taekwondo is already included entirely in hapkido) like BJJ! it will make a perfect fighter just like me ;)
as far as i can see this is Taekwondo + hands
:)))

The acrobatic shit has nothing to do with HapKiDo, if you want to do that train XMA or Taekwondo.

I like the military-like salute at the end, seems like a "Ready to kill the enemies of Korea!" to me. So martial...
No seriously if you are looking for a smoother martial art, check out TAEKKYON

TAEKKYON is very similiar to Taekwondo don't you think?
