check out some joe pass videos here on youtube - he can shred while he is playing chords. He, and guys like him could play with a band, backup a singer, or do a show by all by himself. He rarely repeated himself, could harmonize a melody on the spot and improvise simple or complex harmonies (not just running scales). Yet for whatever reason people praise the single note arpeggio "shredder" guys over someone like Joe ? Bizarre

I personally like Mustaine's solos, I wouldn't name him The Best Guitarist to grace this Earth, but his solos definitely work for what he was writing at the height of Megadeth. Ooooookey. Just wanted to jump in on this conversation. Although the I agree that some of Slipknot's work isn't exactly difficult, Jim Root and Mick Thomson are still great players. Mick Thomson is actually a former teacher, and he can run the fretboard near flawlessly. Listen to Gematria off of their new album, the rhythm is unbelievably tight. And yeah, Michael Angelo Batio is great on their fretboard, but his music sucks dick and lacks creativity or any sort of motivation. Loomis rules :).

Jeff loomis from nevermore, Rusty Cooley from outworld, Michael Angelo Batio from nitro, and Tiago della Vega are some of the cleanest and fastest players out there. Slipknots guitar players lack articulation in there playing as well as a lack of finesse on the fret board. Lamb of gods guitar players have very weak skills when compared to players that actually take arpeggios and interval forms for scales and modes into consideration in their music.
