at 10:55 the build up and overall feel for it didnt mesh well, u took that part way too fast, and took it so fast that towards the end it got really muffeled...even with the shitty audio recording i can tell that the hits are off between low brass/horns and trumpets.....but still did a great job....i guess musical interpretation?.....not dissin please....all opinions...but i played the piece, and i played the piece w/ holsinger conducting me so......im just putting in my input
i would still like to say that Harrison High School Band from West Lafayette, IN played it better than this band. ...oh wait that was my band : ).........as soon as i find the mp3 or the video...its on here...ull see...........ull see
I played Trumpet 1 on this song in my Senior year of high school back in 1999. When I first saw the sheet music for it, I thought, "You honestly expect us to play THIS?!" But after listening to it the first time in a recording by the University of Minnesota's band, my demeanor changed to, "BRING IT ON!!!" Definitely my all-time favorite piece of music to play.
I have an audio recording of when we played it 9 years ago, but no video.
i also played first part...i thought the exact same thing.....i was like waht the......and once it comes togehter, its so intense,........i almost felt like crying after the ending ...it was that awesome. by far my favorite peace to play...ever...and thats saying a lot...........(u being the 1st trumpet part.....didnt u love the high C# at the very end of on the last page of the sheet music........aaaahhhhhhhhhh i loved that piece. actuallyg ot conducted by holisinger himself ;)
Note that I said "Trumpet 1" and not "Cornet 1." So although I didn't get as much playing time as some of the others in our section, I did get all the high notes.
Moanalua is in Hawaii (U.S.). I was fortunate enough to be a part of this band, so I thank you all for your kind words. I'm surprised no one uploaded the clips from our Japan trip. We had a DVD made by the Hamamatsu Band Festival of our performance there.
Wow, amazing job guys! Poway (one of our sister schools) played this piece at one of the festivals we performed at and I fell in love with it. We did On Ancient Hymns and Festal Dances (an equally hard piece) by Holsinger and did just as well. Keep up the good work!
Hmm we had this rearranged for marching band. I prefer it ourway but that's probably just because I'm more used to it. The only time we perform in gyms is for playing the show for our middle schools and pep rallies. I think it would've sounded good if I was there but because of the room your in and the result I can't say it was great.
..Yeah, its because of the bad quality. Moanalua HS is known for their good music programs. Sometimes it makes me wish I went there instead of Kalani.. :(
no offense to all off u people who bad mouthing this performance but i don't really c ur videos on the responses and also their r 3 reasons y i might not sound good
well the event was held at a high school gym because it was just a central district band thing which is always held in a gym but this piece was also played in a concert hall one week after this at States. so i think it's just the recording of the piece. if you were there live than it sounded really amazing.
I don't know if it was because of bad video taping, but the band didn't sound amazing. It was decent/ok for a high school band. At many places the director could have fixed more. Several of the parts were just to fast to hear MUSIC!!!!
OMG!!! itz not nice.. its terrible... 2 bars before 217 dere's a F.horn part.. CANT BE HEARD lerh.. n d F.horn solo @ the beginning is so teribble.. haiyoo..
I've played this piece before for competition. But for a better performance right, you should hear Kashiwa Municipal High School band play. A Japanese band.. That is what I call excellent. way far better than this.
that sounds amazing. one thing though, trombones, moving way too much. i can hear the waa waa sound from it. not much for a normal person to hear it, but it's still there. but aside from that sounds amazing
Oh my god! This band make it very good! I mean excellence! It's a tough song cause i've seen the piece before... they make so lifely espeacily the clarinets! 101/100 marks if i given them!
I love this band it can play a whole song using only 2 dynamics forte and fortissimo... In The Spring is a hard peice this band was able to play at a fast tempo and for the most parts stay together. At some parts i think it was to fast for the ensemble but overall a good performance. I wish I could have a better recording of this song.
I remember playing this song in high school! =D
