@jet4212006 it's a combination of things. it's too far so gas money is an issue. it's a football stadium with no roof so sitting through a game in 80-90% weather is brutal. to top it all off, our owner is cheap. every year he trades away talent for minor league prospects. he has however promised to spend since we're moving into the new ballpark next year so we'll see.
Wayne Huizenga killed baseball down here in South Florida when he traded the entire team away after the 97 series. the Marlins had solid attendance numbers up until that time. it hasn't been the same since.
@m2diggs Really?!? If it wasn't for Huizenga there would be no Florida Marlins. As much as I hate that the team was sold after the 97' season he was losing 30 million dollars on a team that just won the World Series. Can't blame the man for that!.
@steveortiz2 I'm glad you're so forgiving but i'm not. it's not like the man couldn't handle the 30 million dollar hit. he probably would have made that money back in a couple of years anyways through merchandise sales if he'd kept the team intact. that team had a shot to be a dynasty and contend with the Yankees for a world series titles for the next 4-5 years. he took that away from the fans and attendance has suffered ever since. on a different note, lets not forget what he did to Don Shula.
I was at this game. Pudge did not run over the catcher to clinch the series. This was actually the game before when He hit a walk off hit with 2 outs and 2 strikes on him in the final AB. I also went to the final clinching game when Urbina basically blew the save and the Marlins nailed the runner at the plate and pudge was the catcher. The series ended with a runner thrown out at the plate and its the only time a post season series has ever ended that way. It was amazing to be there.
@xirologik Actually this is the final game. But Pudge is not at bat. This is the final game. But the Marlins were in the field. And Pudge held the ball as the Giant tried to run him over and it was the final out of the series. Pudge had a walk off hit in the final AB with 2 outs and 2 strikes the game before this
@dmichael1986 no team in baseball would fill up that stadium on a daily basis since it seats 65,000+ and thats the truth take a look at the past multipurpose stadiums that had baseball in them, they hardly sold out too except for the playoffs and possibly opening day the oakland A's have poor attendance too
@TheMarlinsFan You said exactly what I always thought, especially about how the Oakland A's get a pass even though they also have HORRIBLY attended games especially the early afternoon weekday ones, but somehow they get a pass. I guess it's the genius of Billy Beane and Moneyball or something that protects them from the same criticism that gets thrown at the Marlins.
Whatever, that crap ends in 2012 with the new stadium, can't wait. Miami Marlins baby!
@dmichael1986 your right, fake fans are a total detrement to sports. Especially when the real fans who deal with the losing streaks and tough stretches throughout the season deserve to be at the game instead of the bandwagon fans
@dmichael1986 It's always the same bandwagon down south in Miami. Whether it's the Dolphs, the Panthers, the Heat or the Marlins. Nobody gives a shit until you advance to the postseason and/or bring in big guns. Miami doesn't deserve to have professional sports teams at all.
dont wnna bring your hopes down f22cool but buddy they might not make it i mean last year they were second behind the phillies in standings but they would have to get a wilcard to reach it again i mean im a yankee but they have uggla whos a 30 home run a year guy hanley 340 avg 25hr 90-100 rbi and a mvp candidate he finished last year 2nd behind albert pujols and they traded cody ross to the giants hes a 270 avg 25 hr and 80 rbi guy but they wont make it in a while without a really really good

I was at that game in the upper deck...Im from Miami and I know we get known for being bandwagon/fairweather fans or whatever...but when the chips are down, championship games or eliminations, we have some of the loudest fans. UM Dolphins Marlins Heat...not sure about Panthers but that can be discovered too
@ckendall67 yeah but when it comes to the marlins, the fans never go out of their way to support the team. as you can see from a playoff game the stadium is packed but when marlins arent winning no one bothers to go. how do fans expect the team to ever improve if they dont support the team and help them with money? any baseball fan would do what they can to support their team whether they are the best in the league or the worse.
@why2beyou i noe man ive been a marlins fan all my life and u r right w/ no fans players dont feel loved they dont do good then they dont make the playoffs, look at the yankees, red sox sell outs every game they make the playoffs every year
marlins crepping closer to the phils in the nl east and wils card so suck it. im not a bandwagon fan i see the marlins every day since the seasonopenor with dc here in miami
its kinda hard to fill a stadium that seats 70,000+ every game, but ouncs the marlins get there new stadium in 2011 people will start seeing packed marlins games.GO FISH!!!
Yeah i know. Im a met fan so naturally the fish can can die a get sweep by baltimore. =) Seriously this year they are contending for the division and they might pull it of. The NL east will have 1 team to go to the playoffs most likley the NL Central will have wild card. I also hate when the Mets play florida cause we always lose
I was in right field.. remember it like it was yesterday. My (then) 3 year old sister literally jumped on me when the crowd went nuts and started screaming in terror lol. I can still remember seeing JT Snow rounding third and thinking to myself "ooooo shit...YESSSSS!!!!!" LOL
and that wuz 2 days after i turned 14! ...greatest birthday present ever!!!
and we went on to win the most craziest playoff series ever vs. the cubs and then shock the world as we clinched our 2nd world title over the heavily favored yankees!
As an A'S fan i was kinda glad that the Marlins beat the Giants in this series. Plus it was an exciting ending. Pudge Rodriguez single handedly beat the Giants along with outfield errors.
guys do not be dissappointed...we traded a guy with back problems, jake is 29 i believe? he has no pottential, olsen sucked, our team WILL be way better this year without them. pitching + Defense wins games, dont get me wrong i still liked those players and appreciated what they did for us this year....and and the best trade has to be the gregg trade, he blows!
i'm sry to break this to u guys but thats all the marlins do...they dump talent to build for the future...thats y i give them credit for being in the hunt every year

Yeah what a year that was :) But if we can bring in some good pitchers or develop the ones we got we'd definitely be a tremendously dangerous team, shit we had probably at the beginning of this previous season one of the most dangerous offenses in the MLB
Yeah man wtf! Olsen I thought was honestly the one with some of most potentional he had a GREAT fastball he did lack some control sometimes and about Willingham...him next to Amezaga was definitely our best defensive fielder...damn whatever though that one guy...damn I forget his name maybe you know who he is the black Dominican guy, he looks VERY promising I forget his name but he was fresh outta the minors and had like a 9 hit streak or something like that

i love to see the stadium pack. but some florida fans are bandwagons. but also that stadium is far and in the middle of no where. but i think things will change when the new stadium comes around. :]
@miamib0y305 The attendance really isnt that bad. On a avergage night the Marlins will draw 17-25 thousand people. On a weekend 30 average. Its just that the stadium is a football stadium so it has 60000 seats. If you look at teams like cleveland or baltimore that draw less or about average as FLA it looks more full at their place because there is half the capacity
i hate when ppl say that we are fair weather fans in s.fl. but where are all those people now? i am pretty sure most of them didn't show up until the playoffs started. i hope we can fill the new stadium when it opens in 2011
and it can't be this full why?
maybe because of the area. it's too far.

i love to see the stadium pack. but some florida fans are bandwagons. but also that stadium is far and in the middle of no where. but i think things will change when the new stadium comes around. :]
GO MARLINS!
