  • Never seen an anime that was so good in just 13 episodes. Makes me realize that most of the animes I've been watching are mediocre and are never going to be cult classics like this one. This is the kind of anime artist need to be inspired by. Can anyone recommend any other series?

  • Shu sure had one hell of a walk home from school, that's for sure. Oh yeah and, "perfect anime is perfect."

  • 感動しました。

  • Amazing.

    I love it.

  • 2:35-3:25. It doesn't take dramatic music, a dreary background or a scream of anguish to make a heart-wrenching scene. No. A final wish shared in silence between two children under a simple sunset made this one of the saddest anime endings ever created.

  • @FrizFroz saddest ending indeed :(

  • @skyflysky1919 tokio 8.0 that is next good anime

  • It's terribly sad. LaLaRu, who was completely apathetic at any other point in the series with the gift of immortality, finally has a desire to live at the end before she dies. It's heartbreaking.

  • I still think the director could've done much more with this anime.. for example, showing Hamdo's background, on how he turned to the insane man he is today, and much more

  • 1:08

I believe you wanted water, Hamdo? Well, here you go! ^^

  • @Rundstedt19 he got what he deserved

  • this was good and makes this point i think shu came across as a bit of a preachy abortion campaigner to sara in one part but other than that it was great

  • what is the name of the song right before the credits?

  • @lalala4456 standing in the sunset glow

  • When every time I watch this series, Its like the notion of looking at yourself at the mirror. Just seeing how mankind is so desperate on obtaining the impossible, when we know that any attempt is doomed to fail.

In the words of Alfred Pennyworth...

"Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

  • How could they kill Nabuca?! He was voiced by Dan Green!...alright,I'll stop. In all seriousness, I can't possibly describe how well this is done. I think this is the first amazing, unforgettable anime I've watched without the whole thing being a confusing mindfuck that ended with some message I can't figure out for the life of me. *cough*Lain*cough*

  • I could feel the lifelessness in Shu's eyes in the last scene

  • lol its like volunteering a shit load and never getting any recognition which is how its suppose to be but still sucks. lulul he has 2 go bak2 his ordinary life and not b able 2 tell any1 with them believing it that sucks more ass. at least he culd probly kick that guys ass in kendo and ask the girl her likes out T.T i dont know y u all hatin on the endin cus obviously there culdnt be a happy ending that'd be stupid. get used to good animes having sad ending without hating it. i liked nabaco tho

  • Hamdo wants water badly, he gets it in this epiosde...

  • C'mon Mr. king don't tell me you can't swim!!

  • @the5thchild15 I get your anger, but if this series has provoked such a strong response... then maybe it's doing something RIGHT? It's MOVING us. That's what good storytelling does. Who said those feelings must be positive?

I have a habit of watching soul-wrenching things like this, but they never make me hate life, they make me APPRECIATE it. There are signs of beauty amidst pain, and tome, the ugliness of the world doesn't make that unimportant. We can't just give up and go to sleep. Sisu.

  • @ScarabD that's the same thing my English teacher said to me when we finished reading lord of the flies. I had a similar response to that book. I don't understand why things have to provoke negative emotion to be considered good or classic or timeless. I have never read or seen something given that status, that revere if it has an end that makes you happy, makes you have enjoyed the experience as a whole. All the things that are given those titles just leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.

  • @the5thchild15 we love you too ^^

  • i just want to say this is the first time ive watched this and it was good but thank god hamdo died at the end and shu got to go home, shu's been through a lot of crap and that guy he does judo with can't say anything

  • hw come lalaru dissappeard at last???!!!!!!

she sacrificed her own life to save all people!!!!

  • @Jasmine6234 Remember how she told Shu in one episode that the more she used the pendant, the weaker she got? I think she used up everything at the end.

  • Thank u for uploading dis beautiful anime!

  • i cried soomuch

  • best anime EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my third time watching it because is soo awesome.....

  • ......

    (speechless)

  • beautiful anime, all i can say, so few like this one.

  • What a sad world that was it was like some form of opera it was beautiful but sad you can guess everytime he sees a sunset hell think about lala ru for the rest of his life it would be good if they made a season 2 or ovas about the future needing his help again probably wouldnt be as dramatic though

  • This is one of the shows that made me cry, and it still does. So wonderfully emotional, so beautiful, so deep. I love how it ended, although it is sad, it is a mature, beautiful ending. Thank you for sharing!

Can we watch another sunset together, someday?

  • this guy is such a failiure, he makes promises he doesn't keep lets 1 die/vanish how you may called. the other one gets raped and pregnant and after al that he just goes home without taking any responsibility. what a fag

  • @thomiozo meh u mad at shu?

  • Shu left as a boy, but he returned a god

  • One of the best animes ever.

    Too bad that it's forgotten..

  • this anime was so sad. So many people died...

  • i bet shu wont live a normal life after all that...

  • i bet shu wont live a normal life after all that...

  • I've watched a lot of animes, but only 2 of them are so deeply moving that I'm actually reduced to tears. Grave of the Fireflies and Now and Then, Here and There

  • @FrizFroz You have great taste in anime.

  • @geekforlife003 you have my thanks :)

  • The only rewarding thing was seeing Hamdo die.

    The rest. Not so much

"Can we watch another sunset together someday?"

    *sobs*

  • @MunchKing51 there aren't any rewards to war. that's kinda the point of the whole thing

  • i wish we knew why hamdo was crazy and how the hell he got an army anyway

  • What a masterpiece!! Its sad, depressing and dark but its perfectly balanced with a gripping story and high quality animation. Thanks for uploading!

  • @Luffyrulz09

its a masterpiece but they should of shown him back at school with that kendo kid

  • @Luffyrulz09 Yea, it was a good one and makes you think a lot about what's true about it...

  • ding dong the king is dead LOL

  • he didn't drown the water went really fast that probably broke almost all of his bones

  • THATS IT burn those hellywood basterds in hell!!!! >:0 Lala Ru shouldnt of give em any shet let them die of hunger n thirst in the desert n be eaten by wild animals ALIVE!!!!! DX Lala Ru'

s live was worth much more that all those hellywood basterds!!!!!

  • she didnt do it for them it was for the villagers and probably mainly for shu

  • Hamdo was a true bastard! He should have gotten much worse than drowning. This was a good anime. sad, but very good. I wish Sara had caught up to the guy who raped her and confronted him.

  • the guy that raped her gotten taken away by the stream of water after he gave her the kid lol

  • You failed. That wasn't the same guy.

  • @rockyhard1

maybe, maybe not. who says only one guy raped her?

  • @LintuWaterfall

They only showed her being raped once. The guy that drowned infiltrated the camp to gain information on the rebellion. He did not rape her.

  • They did show her being passed around from living quarters to living quarters at least three times, the first time she was obviously raped and the third time the guy intended to rape her. The way she reacted to him when they met again in the village leads me to believe that he probably raped her as well, but you never know.

  • Well, that IS true. In any case, I'm not sure that man raped her. I never saw him at all on Heliwood. I just assumed she was shocked to see him because he worked with Heliwood. At least he gains a moment of redemption by saving the child. The rest of Heliwood will burn in hell.

  • She bashed his face in with the butt of a rifle, most likely killing him.

  • Well he died in a very ironic way. His entire campaign was too find Lala Ru and have her make water for him, but he ended up drowning in the water he craved so much.

  • Listen to the song Dogs. It fits in so well with this episode. Dogs--Pink Floyd. perfect with this entire series.

  • yea but lik i said if shu prevents all of this from happening those kids might've lived a life with their actual parents

  • 1:09 BWAHHAHAAH

  • what happend to that girl who disappred why did she disapper?

  • She drained all of her life energy saving the prisoners.

  • In the beginning of this anime, it was extremely hard swallow all of that down. It literally made me feel like choking when Shu first met Hamdo. (the scene where the dead cat was being tossed around.)

As I progressed throughout the series i had SO MANY doubts that this was going to end good. ( I had just got done watching the Berserk series.)

but it kept on with "shu's" message. and things worked out... This anime was a roller coaster ride! Loved it. Wish i had more characters to praise!

  • @babblerabla

    fyi

Berserk still is going as a manga, it's not as sad as the anime (still a bit though). Just google berserk manga scans its still going strong.

  • I've gotta say, I'm shockingly impressed by this series. This was done almost too well. It says a hell of a lot more than "war is bad" or "revenge is bad." You have to rebel against stuff like this, but you can't dish it out on the person who does a wrongdoing.

The end of this series is an ultimate fantasy of mine. It's just so far off from the world that we live in today idealogically speaking. If we were all like this, we wouldn't need government, politics, or anything like that.

  • @MrKookoodude

I don't want to see a sequel to this. The series said what it wanted to say. Expanding the 13 episodes would only dilute the meaning.

  • i dont watch anime alot but this is such a masterpiece! u dont have to be interested in anime to enjoy this

  • I am in your same boat man. This show was powerful.

  • as long as he's dead before he takes all those innocent ppl's lives and makes his huge giant tower thing. im pretty sure it doesnt matter

  • Baldios was worst though. Earth suffers the worst disaster ever known, nobody could stop it and what happened? The End shows up

  • ok didnt anyone think atleast once, (oh hey mabe since u gota tim machine we could go bak in tim and fix the this whole mess up before it evn happens tht way lala ru wont get raped, sarah wont get raped and none of this war stuff evn happened and evryone jst lives there lives normally cuz since they fixed the past none of this will happen in the future!!

  • True but if that happened, perhaps Hamdo would've met his death with a bullet instead of drowning.

  • You're right. All Gundam series speak heavily against War. (Even G Gundam was about a solution people came up with to prevent wars)

However, this series just happens to deals with the issues much more straightforward, and deals with issues that most anime wouldn't really try to deal with.

It doesn't censor any of the issues, only the graphic nature of the issues so that the children can hopefully learn from the series.

That's what makes this series great and different from Gundam.

  • Think of it this way, be thankful Gundam didn't turn out like Ideon

  • 流れた血に比べれば幸せなんてほんのわずかなもの、けれどそう感じれるのは今が何より幸せな証拠。

  • こんな名作があったとは・・・

  • i've been saving this comment for the last ep.......the ending song is like peace after war, after all the pain they've been through which lightens me up.funny that the inhabitants that come from earth survived at the end.may their peace last forever

  • This series is just...wow. I didn't think Nabuca would die.

  • Qué gran serie, no la habría conocido de no ser por YouTube ni por las personas que se toman la molestia de bajar sus videos y compartirlos. Muchas gracias, thank you very much!!!

  • I like everything about this anime except for the main hero whom I found annoying to the extreme.

Ridiculously and unrealistically optimistic, right to the end. I was praying with all my might that he would somehow die. Abelia on the other hand... wow... everything else was great, too.

  • YOU ARE THE BABIES DADDY!!!

  • i think shu then went home, und slept and in the next morning he went to kendo training and won,

und sala became her baby and lookey after the other kids and her own, and i think that lala rus spirit where send with shu in his world and lala ru lifes in shu, and shu is every sunset and looked it and thought about lala ru

i think he loved her very much from the first second :)

  • This is a GREAt anime_ such humanity...and the thing that strikes me the most is not the corpses, the killing or the blood... its that this is set in ten billions years time: but in our world, its been happening for along time now.

  • This anime is so underrated, I remember watching it 3 years ago even now as I'm older the ending doesn't fail to make me shed a tear.

  • It's underrated because it does not promote war. Other animes like the robot series such as Gundam, do.

  • You can't fucking compare this series with GunDUM. It's on another level. I'm sorry if you weren't comparing them, but whatever.

  • huh? Gundum?

  • @eams2714

i watched it 5 years ago :) and still a best anime series

  • She disappeared because she gave the last of she had to save everyone. Everytime she used her necklace, it took away from her life force. She served her purpose, although it may be sad. It's her purpose.

  • Thats just the saddest moment, Lala ru disappearing ... could anyone explain why she had to disappear?

  • its like when yorda and ico got separated away forever.

this anime reminds me of ico.

  • I still can't get the image Boo's and Soon's bloody corpses out of my head. All the deaths and rape was horrible, but that sight captivated everything in one shot.

Poor Boo! I didn't think he'd get killed as well.

  • When the good and dynamic characters die, their deaths always leaves a huge impact, which is why they are killed off at the climax

  • Shu did already meet them somehow in his time er wutsoevur cuz his kendo partner is wuts his name n the 1 girl is LALA RU!! =D ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ =D

  • Yes. I know what you mean, so I don't know why someone gave you a thumbsdown,

  • this is so messed up

  • where can i find the dub?????

  • 楽しかった!

    いいアニメだね。

    great!

  • you know after all that he probaly be able to beat his kendo partner now...maybe

  • I cried ;(

    soo touching.

sad how all of shu's friends he made there died, and how he had to leave.

They should make more episodes where he sees them all again someday!

  • why does lala ru have to die man its the most lonely part of this anime

  • i must say despite the fact that this anime is very violent and very sad it has a good message i really enjoyed watching it. it always seemed to keep me guessing whats next? not to mention the characters were really well developed i really cried when each of them died its sad that after all that shu went home alone yet he wont ever be the same again but he will be better thats for sure i hope he gets a gf he deserves one for some reason i cried hardest for boo idk y i guess cause hes so inocent

  • What I don't get is why they were so obsessed with getting Lala Ru for water when they had a device that could teleport them between worlds-presumably to ones with water.

  • Yeah, that was the only part that really made no sense. Sure, there was other enigmatic stuff, but that was just stupid.

But, aside from that... ;-; This anime was terribly depressing, but in the best way possible.

  • Maybe it could only transport a few people and would have had no room for water. Also, despite being crazy, Hamdo may have realized he wouldn't be able to rule over those people in other worlds.

  • @ghjjfsbf

because the world is so fragile and easy to conquer?

  • T-T very sad but very good anime

  • totemo tanoshi katta!

    upload wo arigatou!!!

    I don't write english.

    So sorry...

  • たのしだったか。私とってこのアニメは悲しいのおわりがある。でも、だからこそこのアニメはいいアニメになったと思う。

    私の日本語は下手から、間違えがあるならすみません。

  • This anime was amazing, extremely touching and I wish there were more out there that took a look at the effects of war and corruption. The ending really leaves you with a glimmer of hope.

  • im glad they all died because that world was rotten!

  • Great way for them to close. Somewhat sad, yet a glimmer of hope and all truthful. Quick question though: did Abelia kill Hamdo or was that the after-effects of what LalaRu did? Anyway, this was a fantastic show and I'll see more stuff from these guys for sure. I was tearing up at several points watching the whole thing in fact. If more stuff like this was on television vs. all the reality bullshit, society (least here in America) would be a shitload better. Those are my words. Later.

  • I think, from how I see it, it was merely the aftereffects of Lala-Ru's work. But one could say Abelia killed him because it appears that she could have opened a vault or something in the control room (or whatever she was in) and possibly kept the water from killing Hamdo, but she didn't.

  • Comment removed

  • You're a fucking retard.

  • im sorry i ment to say gote SEX!

  • Let the most insane, craziest and frightened man go and years later, he becomes a madman bent on ruling the world. You gotta respect how Abelia dealt with him, she gave him the biggest Fuck You ever known..death by loneliness. A bullet to the brain would've settle things but that was a top of the line death.

  • Just 'bout my sentiments exactly. Well said.

  • @pookieizzy7 Yeah, of course: use the dictator to kill and rule behind him to cover your actions and atrocity, then become a hero by killing him to hide your evil actions and atrocities. Have you ever heard about this strategy? Yu have so many examples in theis age and in the past ones. I don't know if you caught an allegory: "SEnd me in another time, another place..." Every age has got his own dictator.

  • fuckin great story

ived seach for this series and fuck it was just on youtube.....

very much thanks to the person posted this series/

    fuck ya all critics

  • So the planet they were on was 10 billion years into the future? Then Shu coming back means that all of this wouldn't have happened!

    THIS ANIME DOESN'T EXIST! AAAAAAHHHH!!!

What a shame, this series ending so. Ah well, the best animes are the shortest, like Kino no Tabi.

  • No, him coming back won't undo the future, he's just a kid.

  • whoa..yup2^^ i agree

kino no tabi is great too^^..and so is ntht..

its just sad that nabuca had too die:?(

  • no it was a nother plant and i think it was the past. anime is this not henti i hate heti its a poor exuce to get horney and it does not phase me none the less i love anime like this! but it whould have been better if shu died at the end thou. =(....

  • 0:56- "Send me to any year!"

This line hints that they're on Earth in the future. There's no definitive proof that the place they're at is on another planet, or in the future. The only thing you can do is guess, which at the end of the day, is only speculation.

And I kinda agree with you on "Hentai." If people are willing to view that kind of material just to get a few thrills, then it only proves that they need to get a life.

  • Thanks for posting this anime series.

I have to admit when I started watching it seemed unlikely that Shu would make a good protagonist - as he seemed too shortsighted and "scrappy". But I guess that's part of what makes a good story - character development, as the series progressed he seemed to grow more and seemed less childish and impulsive.

This is definitely not a kiddie anime, the themes here and dark, deep, and complex. Great for older audiences...gives us all something to think about.

  • I agree. I had my doubts about Shu at the start, but I think his childishness was being contrasted to the children who were forced into maturity in Hellyworld (btw stupid name I'm sorry) and it also gave him room to grow as all good protagonists do.

It is so sad that this is not a well-known anime. Nothing against Naruto or anything but that's the kind of stuff that becomes popular with American audiences. This is one of those I need to own and watch with my sister as she would love it.

  • If it happens to Amuro Ray or Hikaru Ichijo, then it can happen to him. And true, this anime is hard to swallow to the meek but for us to understand the nature of it, we can take it.

Yeah, there's a problem with popular anime, the story starts to lose its magic after it reaches a certain point. Naruto, Bleach are fine examples of that. I start to get bored after seeing no progress in the storyline or the characters start to get whiny.

    We can all relate right?

  • There are instances with Bleach and Naruto where a single battle will range through 3 episodes. It's retarded.

  • @sm753

do you not see what the director and writer did with shu...shu was very simple and spirited with the desire to do good...everyone else thought to much..like nabuca...shu didn't really reason things out...he only did what he felt was right no matter what...human beings even though they are capable of evil things are basically decent...not allkways intelligent but basically good...the whole series had these heavy horrible experiences and shu was this simple good spirit that opposed this

  • bestanime

  • im 19yrs old now! and now im almost done with my flying school! i miss this movie! my elementary days in philippines! i use to watch this in AXN!!! hahahahaha! i miss this anime!

  • Go back to HiHi Puffy AmiYumi. This anime was very, very good.

  • che! must be a kid, you dont understand a shit about this anime.

  • u no before shu left to his own time somone there could've just said they could use the time to prevent the war from happening or somin like that

  • No, that was the industrial park and smoke stacks that were destroyed in the first episode.

  • The best

  • The very thing that Hamdo lusted eventually killed him.Good story. He got what he deserved though I wish Shu did more than just clobber him with a stick.

  • Nah, Shu did what he did. He basically scared the living shit out of him and can you blame him? He was beaten, forced to serve in a military force, he seen things that would drive a seasoned veteran go insane and the only time that he was given the option to kill, he didn't do it. Shu was only showing the others that could've lived longer that when all else, show mercy even in the worst case scenario.

Humanity sometimes...we could be worst than any animal.

  • what happened to Lalaru at the end ??? its bugging me .. y did she disappear ?

  • she used the last of her life force to flood Hellywood and Earth

  • What a rushed ending. :(

  • Great ending.I loved it when Tabul the crazed and Hamdo the strung out high on meth died.Abelia just let him float lol.He deserved it having all those girls raped to produce more soldiers. Asshole he was ashole and pathetic he died. Poor sara stuck being pregnant without it from love.I would have killed the kid earlier. Lalarue was destined to die any anime fan knows stuff like this always happens to the good people. She only did it to help Shu the one human she could trust.

  • that was a short tv sereies, it was great though,

is that the very last episode?

  • Sad ending.

  • This has to be the most emotionally impacted anime since Grave of the Fireflies. I shed a few tears in this episode, it was that good. The ending was fine and all. But Hamdo deserves a much more harsher death for the things he has done. That crazy fucker!!Sucked Lalah Ru died or vanished, what ever happened to her. I only wished her and Shu would have stayed together. I guess that wasn't meant to be. All and all this was truly a masterpiece. A destined classic.

  • great series i wish lala ru didnt have to die come back lala ru

  • ya but maybe shu will see her again someday.

cuz she said asked them if they can watch another sunset someday,

maybe theyll decide to make more episodes or something :]

  • Unfortunately, most likely not. This series is about ten years old. I think it's supposed to be just open-ended.

  • Hamdo sounded kinda like Kermit the Frog

  • make it MS. Piggy and you got a deal... lol

  • BRAVO!

  • the ending sucks.

  • ending wasn't too great

  • yeah but when the king was trying to leave he said take me anywhere any year i dont care hint hint time travil

  • i watched like the whole 13 episodes in one nightmy god!!!! its almost 3:00 am!!!!!!

  • lol me too xD

  • all i have to say is this was an awesome anima with a rightfully incomplete ending leaving you wonting more... also its the same world just a different time

  • so sara took it like watevr i got raped so i need to stay with my kids?and like wat happened to shu were all those weeks reflected on his world to?i mean like hows he gonna act now that hes home? (sigh)

  • dude sarah had to stay with Sis's kids! Because i do not think that those were Sis's biological kids at all. (just my theory on that part) Therefore Sarah would = new sis.
