I think the actors did a good job, the special effects and soundtrack was magnificent; but I think the story stood something to be desired. Whoever wrote this didn't have as much of an understanding of science as they should have, and it showed.

You might want to look at the 1976 Columbia Records album 'Inside Star Trek', which an updated version was included in the 25th anniversery edition of the Star Trek - The Motion Picture CD set. That should provide insight on Gene Roddenberrys vision

"I read about you in earths history" should of been "I read about you in Galactic history" Kirk was almost worshiped by the klingons and even century or so after his death the mention of his name invokes awe..The Romulans also had a grudging respect for him so much so that capturing any enterprise was seen the same way capturing a standard in the middle ages was

Roadracer987654321, there is no newer or original Enterprise. I'm no Star Trek expert, but what I do know is that the whole point of this movie was to tell how Kirk became captain. The "original" and "newer" Enterprise starships are the same.

How come the Kelvin had a crew of 800 and the Original Enterprise had a cew of 430 ? Was that because the newer Enterprise was more automated ?

If it's the same person I'm thinking of her and another captain drank me under the table at a con so, I do believe you and NEVER try to drink either of them under the table. As to your question on what is a CDW, it is a Commando War Destroyer. Don't ask why the W and D are reversed, production was happy with it that way. The function was to be a battle ready/science ship due to the instability of relations with the Lyrans, Klingdon, and (unsung) Hydran Monarchy. I can't tell you how I know. ;)

The guy who played spock's father bumped into me in the crowd. Actually we bumped into each other.he was nice as heck and used me to steady himself. he asked I stay put for a second while he got his bearings in the room . he signed my autograph and a few others. I thinbk I was drafted as his aide for a few minutes.

I really do like this theme quite a bit, but I believe it's better suited as a trailer theme, as utterly epic as it is. The soundtrack better fit the overall tone of the movie; it definitely had some old Star Trek influence, in my opinion, and I quite liked that. "Enterprising Young Men" was a suitable new theme for the franchise, I believe. Still, it would be nice to see "Freedom Fighters" incorporated in some way. :3

it only seems like zimmer/howard (more zimmer, howard does sad music and sometimes urban beat type stuff like freedomland) but its a lot more like steve jablonsky's theme in michael bay's the island.

one of jablonsky's influences is def zimmer tho, i'll say that. harry gregson-williams (narnia and kingdom of heaven) is another similar composer.
