Man that was 1440! I lived in that building for 18 years! Lot of good families came out of that building. Shame CHA let it go to waste since all that property was on a 99 year lease to UIC! I don't care what anyone says you can't comment negatively unless you lived there. There were good solid families there! We never forget where we came from. They WERE NOT the projects, they were High Rise apt's. Big ups, 1440, 1510, 1433, 1520, 1440 W. 14th PL. The 3 stories, the Village. Yeah, I was there.
The rest of the "buildings" are ready for demolition. I've worked in areas all over this great city. From Cabrini to Ida B; these ABLA's were the worse!! Good riddance. The UIC area just got a whole lot safer!!
It almost hurts to watch this..I grew up in 1111 W. Roosevelt Rd. And to only memory I can find is a burned out pic of the old place. Sure It was f-cked up but once upon a time it was my home...the Ville for life.
Thanks man My grandma lived in 1239. I can remember as a kid pushing 1 roller skate on the 6th floor all day. Raynard was the homie... my bad I'm driftin'. But those were some good times.
My dad lived in Abla homes...
