I first caught Beau Jocque at the Jazz and Heritage Festival many years ago. He was on the Fais Do-Do stage. Needless to say, he was absolutey a shop stopper...and still takes my breath away. As the years went by, he became one of the headliners playing on either of the main stages. So good, so f---ing good.
I actually was able to see Beau Jocque & the Hi-Rollers live. He came to Dallas & played at The Lone Star Ballroom. The promoter must have sucked. It was a Saturday night & only ten people showed up (including me & my girlfriend). The band kind of laughed it off & played an incredible set, anyway. All ten of us were on the dance floor. . After the show the party moved backstage. . . to which we were included. We got tore up, indeed! Damn, I miss him!
@rlpastor There is a dvd called "The Kingdom of Zydeco" by Robert Mugge. It is being delayed by Acorn Media. Email them and tell them you want it!! I sure as hell do.
My husband and I used to go to Rock 'N Bowl in NO to see him when we were dating in the '96-'98 timeframe. He played the second floor, and the entire dance floor literally moved up and down in time to the music and dancing. No exaggeration. Ray-Ray on g, Skeetah on drums, Chuckie on bass. Memories I'll never forget. Now Beau Jocques helps me clean house. Best cleaning album is "Git It Beau Jocques." Here's to you Monsieur Espree . . . .
That's right. The floor would bounce up and down, and the building would move in and out when Beau Jocque played the Rock N' Bowl. The music and dancing would get so intense, I used to get goose bumps and shivers up and down my spine. Beau Jocque could put you in a zydeco trance. If there was any band I could see tonight, it would be Beau Jocque and the Hi Rollers!! I'm not lyin'.
Azdak they did a show in SF w/the same lineup.Steve Riley sounded ok, nice crowd, Beau was in the middle, and packed it so tight people literally couldn't dance. But did anyway..When Marcia came on, half of us left..No dis on her, but most of us said to the astounded management that we already came for the headliner..They couldn't believe that we wouldn't stay for Marcia..was quite a moment..Just one of many..Beau was the best as far as I'm concerned..NO dis on anyone..Andre is my fave now.
I need a little help. I used to watch a real short clip of Beau Jocque playing at I think it was Giltons or something like that. It starts off with a train going by then you go into the club. I can't find this clip if you know let us know. Thanks
It's great that there are videos to help keep the man alive. I saw Beau Jocque in Chicago in 1995 just a few days after he had his first heart attack. He was so tall, they had to turn the stage lights off in this small bar because the hot lights were too close to his head. He did a show with Steve Riley and Marcia Ball. $20 for the ticket--the memories are priceless. I miss him every time I listen to zydeco music.
I first saw Beau Jocque at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival in the early 90's. He was totally amazing, but had sort of a minor spot, not on either of the main stages. As the years went by, his stature grew and soon he was playing in a prime spot on a main stage. He never ceased to blow my mind. I was going to Nawlins every year for the fest and then one year Beau Jocque was nowhere to be found. I was bewildered until I learned of his demise. I miss him.
I was there a number of times for Beau vs. Boozoo. I never missed Beau at the Rock N' Bowl during Jazzfest. It was always the highlight of Jazzfest for me!! I'll never forget those nights, etched in my mind forever.
All's I got to say is grand Merci Beaucoup for posting this video!
This is the best video I've seen of Beau, ever. Unfortunately, Beau passed before I got to see him live. How sad for everyone, and especially for my own self. You're in my soul Mr. Espree, I hope I represent...
When I was 16 I remember seeing Beau at the Johnny Nash area in Houston,Tx. He had a four door Ford dually with a dual exhaust. Everyone watched him drive up, and it was a feeling I never will forget...I hope that some day his sons will take over his legacy.
I'm the guitarist for a Zydeco band that plays alot of Beau Jocque around the Dallas TX area. The name of the band is Jay-B & The Zydeco Posse. Ya'll check us out when you get a chance! You right!
I just keep coming back over and over and over again!!! Yeah, I hope somebody has the Letterman show video. I never saw it. Then if Robert Mugge could get his "Kingdom of Zydeco" movie out on dvd.......
This bitch goes hard ...
