Like totigerus said, it's Richie Hayward on drums. I had "Shaken 'n Stirred" on cassette when it came out & I've always been blown away by this drum track in particular. Great snare sound. Great fills. Hayward passed away on August 12, 2010 from complications from lung disease while waiting on a liver transplant. He was a founding member of Little Feat, but I don't know much of their music. He played with a lot of different solo artists. R.I.P. Richie...
Yea, Richie Hayward on drums. Unbelievably clean sound! It seems like he was not given the due credit that he could have merited as any other VERY top star drummer.
Funny? I'm looking at the comments so far as drummers but Phil Collins? With all respect. Phil Collins is definitely up there but since years ago and I still have not clarified it but the individual toms, snare sound, china boy low, and chick of the hi-hat sound's more like Simon Phillips. Listen to any drum solo by Simon Phillips and it is so uncanny.
I hate to break it to you guys...but the drummer on this song is Phil Collins. That is most definitely his sound. Great song one of my all time favorites.
Aww... his puppy dawg luvs him! I'd say Robert is making a statement about the inexorable return to a more natural/organic state of being for modern society, after generations of repression in the Victorian/puritan model that denied full expression. It's no coincidence that the era of greatest human travesty & genocide took place in the era of the greatest emotional repression. Life needs to breathe and run or it withers from within. Control is illusion. Art is life. Time comes around...
Good song, not even really a Zeppelin/Plant fan here, but I bought "Shaken N' Stirred" (on cassette)back when it was released, for this song, and another of the album's tracks, "Too Loud"
@MikeP9171 I absolutely love Led Zeppelin as they r my favorite band. But I hate to say it, Plant became a sellout after they split up. And he got washed..
@5353QUICKSILVER5353 I definitely agree dude and don't forget about David Gilmour in Kate Bush's Running up That Hill Live at Red Rocks! Check that one out if you haven't already and see David Gilmour at his classiest and best!
Plant is and will be a vocal "GOD". Without Robert Plant, there would not have been Led Zeppelin. Plant's versatile in music vocal styles and recordings should show some you dumb asses that he can sing anything not just Led Zeppelin. That's why he's one of my idols.
arty farty crap!!! What the hell is this? Why didn't MTV just put up a screen saver of a pile of horse turds? None of these early MTV videos were worth a crud!!! They actually ruined songs for life.

NO WAY HE'S IS SO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. XOXOXOXOX*"' (**V**) My love. my star,,
@raelraven2 That's not Collins on drums on that song (totally not his sound from the time), it's Richie Hayward from Little Feat. Much rockier drummer.
That album was one of the best recordings from the '80s. Stunning sound. For me the drums and guitar sound on that song were a standard that few met.
It depends on the dog, but some of them will definitely stay nearby if you're in an open space or away from traffic. That's how mine is, and that looks like how Plant's is. I get the same comment all the time "How can you walk him off leash?"...lol......you can train them, but the sighthound instinct is always there, so you must be careful.
The intro reminds me of so much space....so much space all around..perhaps one of the greatest intros of all time...
It was featured on the "Junk Love" episode of Miami Vice..and man was the timing of that song right! Just when Crockett takes a dip in the ocean in his scuba gear. The final part of the song gelled briliantly with that classic scene where the girl finally decides to shoot her father.
The greatest tv series in the history of the world and perhaps one of the breeziest songs ever :-)
F u person who thinks Robert plant is a rip off Robert plant is the greatest artist that has ever lived I bet your uncle bob is a ling pussy who when he finds time to stop doing him self makes up these lies
this song definitely works its way into my stomach, up through my throat, crawls up my neck, wraps around my head and wiggles into both ears, and then does it all again
I love this song and video. I seen the band with Jason Bohnam (John's son) at Alpine Valley, WI in a terrible rain and fog. Jimmy Page solo and Robert Plant solo tours. The next night Stevie Ray Vaughn and his helicopter crashed leaving from Alpine Valley because of the fog.
ahhh..I remember Robert just dominating the Rock stations here in Phoenix in the mid 80's........and sure enough..he re-invents himself again and dominates the Grammy's just a few years ago winning 5 with Allison Krause including Album Of The Year !!??
I can tell you exactly where it was filmed since I am in the wedding scene (the slightly gawky 17 year old kid in the blue jacket!) along woith my mum and dad and half the local community. The whole video is shot in the Llanthony Valley in South Wales. Google Llanthony Priory, Cwmyoy church, or Hatterall Hill and you will see the main places where the filming took place.
Agree with hazor777 that the drums are amazing on this song and with Tspsoliderboy about it being Plant's best solo work. I can also imagine Zep doing this. It's a terrific song, with great production and arrangement. It's so big and sparse, like hearing music in a giant old stone cathedral.

Walkman and Sony headphones. HA! Thanks for that quick little trip down memory lane, that brought back some great memories. I may be old, but I refuse to grow up!
'Shaken & Stirred' is maybe his most underrated album... He never recorded anything like it before or since. Sonds like the Eighties with a Capital "E"
NO SHYT FOR REAL , THIS SONG IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DEVIL, ONLY SONG HE EVER WROTE ABOUT IT, I HAD HEARD THIS 20YRS AGO AND ITS WHAT I THINK OF WHEN I HEAR IT NOW, SUPPOSED TO BE TRUE-I DUNNO
this is at the time zepplin was no more..but..if this was a zep tune...would it get more praies for being a good song?..think about it..its robert solo..but..if it was zep...it would be a classic...right?
@MrJimadkins The musicianship on this record is as good as Zepellin. But it's a very different style to what Plant/Page would compose. Nothing wrong with that.
Robert Plant is entitled to a music life after Led Zeppelin.

Walkman and Sony headphones. HA! Thanks for that quick little trip down memory lane, that brought back some great memories. I may be old, but I refuse to grow up!

damn the differences from 1975 to 1985 are astounding...but the greatness is still the same.

@puddledoo I always loved the scenery in this video, thanks.

The 80's style amateur video distracts from the brilliance of this song. This song is best on a stereo, very loud. Plant is a genius.

'Shaken & Stirred' is maybe his most underrated album... He never recorded anything like it before or since. Sonds like the Eighties with a Capital "E"

To think Plant made this (and Big Log) AFTER everything else in Zeppelin. Damn, some people have ALL the talent.

@badhorsee, Plant is a Buddhist, not a satanic worshipper.

@fitnessdvdqueen Buddhism has the potential to bring you as close to God as you could ever be.

this is at the time zepplin was no more..but..if this was a zep tune...would it get more praies for being a good song?..think about it..its robert solo..but..if it was zep...it would be a classic...right?
MrJimadkins 1 year ago
@MrJimadkins The musicianship on this record is as good as Zepellin. But it's a very different style to what Plant/Page would compose. Nothing wrong with that.
Robert Plant is entitled to a music life after Led Zeppelin.
