  • Bless ur honesty u just helped me in so many ways thank u

  • Thank you for making this. Whole point is to see every ones different experiences & share our own. Hugs, Liz

  • I am pre op and my surgery is scheduled in march. I am nervous and trying to get as much information before I go threw with it ..... I have type 2 diabetes and HBP and acid reflux bad knees and always tired with swollen ankles im 32 with 3 kids and have a bad family history of obesity and death by diabetes! Thanks for sharing your story

  • My mate told me to stop watching these videos but so many have very helpful. But this one has truly scared me to death. I'm slowly going into tears.

  • This is only a video for those who are having this surgery for all the WRONG reasons!! My Doctor would have never done the surgery for the sheer fact of being "Obese" without any health issues, so for your Doctor to have done that was wrong to begin with. I had a couple minor issues at the time of surgery and am now 3 years out and just today found out that I may have to have Revision Surgery because of a 2cm Ulcer at the connection, and some other issues as well, but it is a trade off!

  • @Mamajo1026 I suppose at the time I appeared of less health. Who, at 320 lbs, seems healthy? A co-morbidity can be as simple as GERD/reflux. I had that. I'm over it. The video is... 4 years old.

  • This is a really good video. So far I've been very blessed with no post op complications. Healthy, blood work is all good (I'm 2yr 3 mos post RNY). But people do need to know that things happen and there is no way to predict what will happen to who. I do tell people to think long and hard about options and if they have done every single thing they can to lose it. Good video.

  • You say your video feels like whinnying. But I want to tell you it made me feel better. I am post gastric bypass and got very sick just returned home from the hospital. I regret the surgery and was looking for others. My family doesn't understand and being so sick has left me feeling very depressed. I am sorry you have been so sick. But I want to thank you for your videos they made me feel not alone and that's a miracle for me.

  • @WillowSnuggles2 How long ago was your surgery? I am now almost eight years post op, and I tell you what... those first few weeks are the worst. IT DOES PASS. xo

  • This video you made is in 2008, which is 3 years ago not 4. You clearly said "you lost weight, but gained health problems." You say through out the whole video that the surgery caused your problems. If you don't like how people like me are reacting to the video you posted 3 years ago, then you need to DELETE THE VIDEO! Stop scaring people with your lies.

  • @MommieReinvention459 Uh. No?

  • @MommieReinvention459 No, thank you!

  • @MommieReinvention459 Maybe you need to do more research and stop telling people to delete vlogs because you don't agree with them. Some people are left worse off after WLS then before, it happens, there are serious risks with any surgery no matter how routine or how non-evasive. This person is vlog to tell people to make sure they don't just jump into WLS blindly, you should know ALL the risks involved. She is telling her story to warn other's to not jump blindly into the pool without looking

  • @MommieReinvention459 Ya the truth can be scary can't it. but IT NEEDS to be told..so that people with half a brain don't think that wls is a magic wand and nothing bad will ever happen to you after it. God do you have any idea of the things that CAN and DO go wrong...or do you only see rainbows?

  • @MommieReinvention459

she is speaking of the possible complications that could come with ANY WLS ...she happened to have RNY. ..she is not saying it will definitely happen but she is sharing her experience...there is nothing wrong with responding to a regret question by going in depth and telling how she feels and what she is dealing with

  • @shooper1017 And, at the time, 3 years ago, that's how I felt. I'll make a new video! It will be a lot angrier. LOL.

  • @MommieReinvention459 BTW - I am curious - why do you care? You're post op. Why not support? Feel free to join us.

  • @MommieReinvention459 So, what the heck are you? A lie detector? Guess what, I had a "reversal" of my WLS in 89' and can say everything she said is TRUE. I'm also a professional and researcher who studied WLS in depth. If you can't keep an open mind re. someone like MM who is attempting to EDUCATE you, please just go away.. Truth is priceless! Your spew is counter productive. By, by...

  • Oh, and just like you I was over 300 lbs with no co-morbidites, but I took all of my vitamins like I was told and have had no health problems. You did this to yourself because were too lazy to tae your vitamins, just like you said. You need to do a follow video to this if you have not already and admit the part you played in your own health problems ad stop scaring people. Now if you followed doctors orders 100% I would totally see your point.

  • Seeing this makes me upset, only because you are not being truthful. You need to tell people that you have all of those problems because you DID NOT take your vitamins. I know this because I've seen your other videos. What did you think was going to happen to you?

  • @MommieReinvention459 OY! Not you again... Guess what chickie? Many of us take our vitamins AND still have many of the problems MM mentioned. Suggest you read, read, and read some more. Please go to PubMed and do a lit review of WLS complications. Then and ONLY then will you be able to post an informed comment on this topic. Right now, you are simply a babe in the woods (an uninformed one at that). Someday, you may be unlucky enough to experience some side effects. Then what will YOU say?

  • please tell me the ups and downs of gastric bypass. i am scared.

  • You gave me something to really consider.I am 31 and 290lbs, with no health issues. I am doing 4 vanity reasons. The MANY of attempts at weight loss and exercise, all failed. It resulted in me gaining more and bashing my self-esteem TREMENDOUSLY.I am going through a depression because of it. I had a very social life before. Now I don't want to leave the house.Go out to eat with friends because the restaurant chair might have arms and I will humiliate myself getting stuck.

  • @montrealBBWescort I think the first step to true success is to really LOVE yourself where you are at. EVeryone (including myself) who has had a goal and has been feeling frustrated and desperate had an issue of not loving where they are at. And then, it needs to be a lifestyle change. It needs to be habits that work in your life (or things you are willing to change in your life permanently). It takes will-power, but if you have strong belief and resonance with the plan, you will be happy w/ it.

  • thank you SO MUCH for sharing your thoughts! this is exactly what i was worried about. going from a healthy "fat chick" to going to a skinny multi-health issue chick is what always goes thru my mind.

  • thank you for saying the truth and telling people the truth

  • thank you for your honesty and bravery

  • Thanks for sharing! I think it's important to see both ends of the spectrum when it comes to review a life changing process such as WLS. It seems majority of reviews are positive only. Don't hear a lot of negative feedback.

Thanks again for sharing and hope you're doing well!

  • Thanks for sharing! I think it's important to express both ends of the spectrum. I'm putting together a new Gastric Bypass review site together and I'm trying to get reviews and feedback from both sides! It seems most of the published feedback is positive. I'm going to send you a message with some details about my site and, if it's okay with you, I'd like to post a summary of your views and a link to your site on mine.

Thanks again for sharing and I hope you are doing well! :)

  • Melting Momma. I feel your pain. I am 13 months out, relatively healthy. Before I had my surgery, I asked myself this. What price will I pay to be a normal weight in my lifetime...ever?

Are the side affects worth it? Kidney disease run heavily in my family. Can losing weight avert possible dialysis, 20-30 years from now?

Will I drop dead from an asthma attack?

Today I do not regret my decision. Hopefully, 3 or 4 years down the road I'll feel the same.

  • I'm a healthy young female. Just too big. I had the gastric bypass a week ago and have already lost the feeling in both of my legs :( according to my doctor my nerves in my thighs were trapped and this happend during surgery and now i already HATE my bypass and haven't even gotten started. What's worse is I paid for mine. $15,000 to lose the feelings in my legs :(

  • Sorry u are having so many problems. I researched since 1999. I reached my highest weight at 271. Could not walk, in a wheelchair on the beach in Janiary. Had 2 family members to dies from Morbid Obesity. Most of my Family has weighed in well over 350 lbs. up to 800 lbs. I had Diabetes, HBP, Sleep Apnea, Low back Arthritis and knees. I had to do it. I hope I make out ok. Not for Vanity for health. I will pray you get better.

  • I feel your pain :( Not literally, I didn't have the surgery or anything. But I'm here on youtube watching videos about becoming a dietician/nutritionist, and I came across your video. I want to help people deal with their health problems without suffering the consequences of having surgery like you did now. You put that on my heart. I'm so sorry girl, I wish there was someone to give you better advice. Agape.

  • My god... You are soooo negative... you knew from the beginning vitamin insufficiency could occur... and about the hypo glaucemia you develop that over time with age or still being young.. I'm sorry your doctor didn't tell you these things.. These are just WLS side effects.. You look misersble... A def in iron and being hypo... It's nothing compared to what you have had developed over time being over weight... or u r gonna tell me you rather be a diabetic than hypo... You look and feel miserabl

  • I think it's very interesting that most health insurances won't pay for weight watchers but they will pay for WLS. Sucks. I really don't want to resort to WLS. But am the heaviest I have ever been and getting scared now of carrying around this weight. My plan is to find a dietician and start there. My insurance will pay for that at least.

  • I'm sorry for what you are going through but I think you made a big mistake. Surgery should ONLY and ONLY be a LAST resort. And the LAST resort is when you are facing severe health problems. You had normal cholesterol, normal BP, normal glucose, you are *LUCKY*, because with your weight normally your on your way to type 2 diabetes and you are drowning in insulin and it is making you hungry! You should have considered other alternatives. Who cares how you look???

  • iAM SORRY YOUR HAVING MINI SEIZURES.. WHAT ARE THEY LIKE BECAUSE I GET THESE SMALL CURRENTS THAT RUN THROUGH MY BRAIN.. I DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE..THEY DONT HURT BUT IT FEELS WEIRD. IAM ALSO DIFICIANT IN EVERYTHING

  • wow see i think the other way i am 20 i had the lapband and trust me you dont wont it if you eat more than like 4 crackers and a 1/2 glass water u vomit i think non of them work i lost 80 lb down to 310 from 390 and it cost me my hole life you have no energy you cant take in enof food to get your vitamans and you cant take suplements cus that relas too slowely and you get poisen on the + side you look vary hot

  • I admire your honesty re WLS and the long term consequences of life long choices for ones body. I always wondered the long term results of the surgery for the majority and the mental health issues behind the weight and what happens 2, 3 4 years down the line. Keep on telling your truth re this subject. I wish you and everybody well. Peace love and contentment too all:D

  • I wish doctors could help people eat better. I wish media would encourage it.

I mean, if you can see a million commercials for Taco Bell this and McDonald's that, then why can't they (media) push for health? There should be a million commercials for that. I mean, you'll see a million commercials for gastric surgery before you'll see something about promoting health. And in the end, it's nothing wrong with being overweight. Just love yourself and try to eat better. PLEASE!

  • watching your video makes me cry, I have exactly the same issues.. Iam not big anymore, but now I have so many things wrong with me, B12 injections, all sorts of vitamins...its not easy< I really appreciate your honesty... it is a trade off!

  • There's a big bias on the net pro-weight loss surgery. Some "support" groups will fry you if you don't sing the song of a perfect experience. Remember that most of their financing comes from places selling weight loss surgery. Fact is fact. It's a life saver for most of people who have it. But a measurable % are left just as incapacitated as obesity, just differently. And to the person who is 190 and wants surgery, no way. That thinking gives WLS a bad name. It's not meant for overweight.

  • @AsasMommy AMEN.

  • I am getting my bypass surgery on the 21st of March 2011-two weeks from now! I am so excited! I hate that you have had a bad experience. For myself, I am educated and aware of the risks. I am taking preventive measures for the hair loss by taking vitamins and Biotin 5000 mcg. I weigh 324 lbs. I am losing weight on my own. I was 450lbs on Dec. 31, 2009. I have co-morbid conditions with a BMI of 49. I have had several surgeries the past few years. In 07' I had 4 major surgeries within 4 months! I

  • @fides4zephyr2 My feelings change ... all the time. This is just how I felt THEN, you know? Good luck to you!!

  • IM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT ALL YOUR DIFFICULTIES.....:( IM GETTING THE GASTRIC SLEEVE THIS SUMMER. I HOPE THAT I DONT HAVE ANY OF YOUR COMPLICATIONS, ITS SUPPOSED TO BE SAFER. ANYWAY, I HOPE YOUR DOING WELL :)

  • alright so straight up I weight around 190 lbs and I want to get a gastric bypass.... but I'm kind of scared because I don't wanna die or something haha but I dont want to get a lap band either because I've seen that it doesn't work as well as the gastric bypas..oh and btw I'm only 20 years old...any suggestions???:/ working out or eating well is noooot working for me! I jog one hour DAILY and I eat extremely well and small portions and I'm still not losing this weight!!

  • @1811marie 190 lbs? No. Many of us land at that weight! That's the "after!"

  • @1811marie at only 190 you might not even qualify for the surgery... most people that get it done are in exsess of 350 pounds and would dream of only being 190

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! too many people are scared or just dont want to admit that ALL weight loss surgeries come with a price! I hope you get better and will keep you in my prayers.

  • I like the chick's glasses.

  • I was revisiting and I think if those interested would do all the research and make better decisions with the choices available it make work out for some people. to say eat less/exercise more is easier said than done for us with other problems. I understand the help you are offering. If you had no back pain, leg or foot pain issues you Were really blessed . I don't feel yours was All vanity. I weigh only 217 and this is hard for Me to carry. bad knees, high blood pressure etc. not diabetic

  • Sorry to har about your plight hut, has anyone tewsted you to see if you have Fibroids? I was seriously anemic and once had a reading of 1 for blood count. Transfusions are not on my list and even when I went for surgery for hysterectomy I didn't want any transfusions and lucky didn't need it. I don't have any harmone replacement. just overweight from being lazy and arthritic knees. had/have high blood but might want lipo/tuck to solve my eight issues. I hear what you're saying. Thanks :=))

  • @LadyShyye Hi there! I'm no longer anemic, but it can come up at any time. I was checked though. :)

  • I think a lot of people need to see this video. It's the longer term result that many of us do not consider. It was good of you to admit the problems, and being a fat person I understand why you did it. There is no easy answer to the obesity problem.

  • If you hair is falling out,why not take Biotin 5000mg. It really does help. Do you take b12 and multivitamins everyday?

  • How are you now after this last video? Do you cope up with your health? I mean hows your health? I was thinking to have this surgery but after seeing this I might not do it at all.

  • I had a lap band placed in May of 2005. I would not recommend a lap band to anybody. I did not lose weight even though I ate one third of what I normally ate. I gagged and upchucked a lot. I completely followed the program for several years.

I developed a hiatel hernia and severe acid reflux. The band was removed this past March (2010). The hernia was repaired and a gastric bypass was done.

I can only speak for myself but the band experience was a nightmare for me.

  • @lyndeelee in YouTube I seem to run across many people lap band did not work for- at least not work well. I have to wonder if it is an age thing- if it works better for younger people? I hope you have better success with gastric bypass. For now I will continue the whole...attempt to change lifestyle. Which...is still a real b!@#!@ for me. But for now, I am not ready for surgical intervention.

  • Ultimately you would have eventually had a lot more health problems in the future being overweight, that,'s if you were still living. Eat more now and take supplements and you will be OK. Winging Bitch.

  • Your to skinny now.

  • well thank you so much for video,i received my form to fill up for a gastric bypass surgery and hearing you..hmmm....made me change my mind ,because if i were to have it done then that would have been a terrible decision.

Hearing the amount of deficiency you suffer from is not a good thing at all.You need these vitamins for they are vital to our health,it seems as if you are back at square 1 or worse because you now suffer. I am really sorry to hear how much you suffer, but you saved me alot

  • I think you are so pretty!!! Juat wanted to let you know....LOL -Channel

  • Hello,

I wanted to thank you for posting this video. I recently had the gastric bypass surgery and have had so many questions. The hospital didnt really help with preparing me for all of this "new life" stuff. Now im sitting here waiting for my hair to fall out! WELL gotta pray things turn out for the best. Again, thanks.

  • @sonnyferreira808 take biotin for your hair if its falling out.

  • eat less and exercise more, you wont need such surgery to lose weight..simple as that!

  • @AntonijaKolar It was almost seven years ago, but thanks!

  • @AntonijaKolar I think there is more to it than that. People seems to throw that phase around, but the fact is obesity is very difficult to treat. The true causes of obesity is not completely understood, so there really has not been effective and LASTING treatment for the condition. That statement can mean very little to an obese individual that has attempting such multiple times to get their weight within a healthy range.

  • @AntonijaKolar It's not always that simple unfortunately. Some people have other issues that make it incredibly difficult to lose weight. PCOS is notorious for causing overweight women issues with losing the weight. Perhaps you should walk a mile in someone elses shoes before you assume you know what's best for them?

  • I'm just 7 weeks out yesterday and I just started feeling a bit better. I wish I never had the surgery still at this point. I needed it but wish I could have also had the lapband they told me I was to heavy and it wouldn't help me :(

  • don't you think that as you aged, without the surgery, you would have had all the health problems that go along with obesity? I have them and I'm 35 and weigh 240...you were just about to come up on a ton of health problems that would be just as rough as what you are going through now I do believe.

  • Thank you so much for speaking out about this subject.

  • I appreciate your honesty and your video, I am having band surgery at the end of next month (tentatively) and the weight loss center keeps on trying to push me to RNY. My concern jas always been the long term consequences of gastric bypass, specifically the malapsorption issues. Your video sealed my decision to get band surgery 100% as I was starting to feel unsure. I hope you are able to find the help you need to improve your condition and the side affects caused by your RNY surgery.

  • I'll give you a hint. we were in elementary school and high school together, we are friends on facebook already. I grew up in Pembroke and used to live near a chinese restaurant. You know who I am yet?

  • @koolaide02360 I thought so. What's with the FB name? LOL. Do you live here too?

  • @meltingmamamelted I live in Taunton, just bought a house there.

  • @koolaide02360 Ah - I just thought by the zip code. LOL. Still an EMT/Para?

  • @meltingmamamelted We moved out of Plymouth when we bought the house. Yeah I still work the ambulance. Hows Your Hubby doing havent seen him since Brockton?

  • @koolaide02360 He went into banking is a Branch MGR since '01, he's in college now, hoping to become District MGR. He also renewed EMT recently, but not really useful at the moment. He's on FB too...

  • @meltingmamamelted Thats awesome, good for him. He is actually one of my FB friends too. I just usually don't check people's pages randomly. I was just stunned to be clicking my way through youtube and Wham there you are.

  • OMG I know a YouTube celeb! you look great... alot different from high school. Your Hubby looks totaly different too from when he worked at AMR Brockton. Keep up the good work "melting mama"

  • @koolaide02360 Hey - LOL. Who's this?

  • what type of surgery do you suggest for someone who is 220 pounds currently and she would like to go down to around about 115 pounds ( 8 stones)

  • @innocent136 How tall are you? If you're very, very petite, maybe a gastric band or sleeve.

  • @innocent136

Surgery at your weight is not a good thing imo. Best to give yourself a year of supervised weightloss, by a dietician and a psychologist. If that absolutely fails or you have co-morbidities I would say nothing more than a lap band. The sleeve is almost as dramatic as the gastric bypass in terms of weightloss or complications. I know you wont like my answer..but truely and utterly see surgery as the end of the road...the REAL end. At your weight there is still room to do this

  • thank you for keeping it real im having gastric bypass in 3 weeks not cause of you but im kinda having second thoughts im glad i can hear real stories

  • Hi My name is Tina I am going for bypass in the summer 2010 I am close to 300 but under that (not sure till I am weighed) . I am looking for reasons to not MOURN food yet I am SICK of feeling uncomfortable in my skin... I watch you and want to small like you and then think of what you said, and look for a reason to not to kill myself from being morbidly obese.... CATCH22.... With a pile of calories from alcohol into me Thanks for your video Tina.. :-)

  • It takes a lot of courage to say that. I have no health problems at all and weigh over 300 lbs. I've been considering WLS but have been curious as to the side effects. I always hear about how great it is and I never hear about the side effects or what can happen - thanks so much for this! :) Now here I go back to the gym! heheh :D I'm doing this the long way around.

  • thanku for telling the honest truth xx

  • i was wondering if maybe you could get back to this question.... I am 20 years old and I have High blood pressure and severe anxiety .... I also have a "underactive" tyroid. I weight 220 lbs and in a couple months i am going to get gastric bypass surgery. Do you think this is a goood idea?

  • i would do it ,i think i forgot how its like to be so overweight if u had to line the next month with ur weight b4 the surgery my onest opinion is that u would reconsider.i mean im obese to and sincerely i know some very ill people that enjoy life more then me ,plus u have the benefit of not looking sick .

  • First of all I could see it in your face that all my questions have been answered. I am over weight with no health problems aswell as you. I am so sorry. I heard that there are going to be complications..You are very brave because I would have been crying.

  • your extraordinarily pretty :)

  • Are you taking your vitamin supplements like you should? They give you a strict regimen you're supposed to follow. I'm not trying to ridicule you though...just asking.

  • @winniewhitt Hi Winnie - this video was from .... Spring 2008. I do, have. But, not always.

  • @meltingmamamelted

Oops, my bad! sorry! guess it'd help if I checked dates on videos.

  • how about would you have just got of your but and workd out?????

  • Hi...Please please please...tell us more about the disadvantage of this surgery....I am about to do it

  • I had the fobi pouch version of this surgery. I dont have diabetes anymore. I agree that patients without diabetes high blood pressure etc should get the lap band.

  • Hi..Your video has really made me think..I have been debating if i should do the lap band or Gastric..I also am 25 and have no problems with my self.. .thanks for the advice...some times its better coming from some one you dont know, other then a doctor who might not tell you every detail..I wish you the best..Stay positive..life is beautiful..more power to you!!:)Thank you once again!

  • Thank you.

  • OMG, i wish i had watched this before i had surgery. I was 19 when i had RNY and had no co-morbidities, i did it just for vanity. I now have nerve damage in my legs and seisures as well but my doctor said that i t has nothing to do with RNY? but I truly believe it is.. I am SOOOO Glad i came across this.I went from healthy and fat to less fat and unhealthy and in constant pain..do you have any info on seisure and or nerve damage? links to info?

  • You are so right!! I had my RNY! in 2006 I ended up in hospital and very neary died of a twisted bowl in 2007, My hair fell out, I have a iron deficiency and have to get my B12 jabs!! and take all the vitimins. Its no joke, And to top it all I'v put on weight? The Dr told me I would never put weight on again after having RNY. Iv put on 2 stone!! and counting. I to had no heatlh problems before. they say that I have to go on a diet. well diets didnt work thats why I had the surgery remember?

  • One thing - did you really do it totally for vanity, I mean at 300 pounds how much can you do? Can you go indoor rock climbing, skating, even run and play with children? I also don't think it's really "vanity" when you consider that society treats you like shit for being overweight. I have gone from being a healthy weight to obese and noticed the difference in the way I am treated by everyone, even family. Thanks for posting this, I'm going to have Lap-band, RNY too risky for me, a mother.

  • you are a wining B i hate i watch yourvideo please dont make another!

  • Thank you sweetheart!

  • @523melanie She is not a wining B..She is just telling her side of the story and if u dont like ..you dont have to offend her..Life is short ...Be a bit nicer..it will come in return..

  • Man-- this is tough-I also went in for Lap band- but was "talked out of it" because at 52- I was so old- why wait- I would have to come back for the gold standard rny after the band failed me! ugh-- I also am -was healthy- no probs- but I knew at this age the knees- the joints the other stuff would probably be around soon enough- and I was tired of never being normal--I worry alot about the issues you experience-- I have a bit of hypoglycemia anyway- -I was told revisions were possible...???

  • hi, thanks for telling me all of this, i am 3 wks out RNY, i cant keep anything but liquids down right now, mushy keeps coming back up after 2 bites and sometimes 1. so going to talk to my surgeon about that tmrw. thanks for subbing to my channel. i am 28 and had no comobidities either when i had it, mine was for health reasons, my genes are horrible and i dont want to have all those things happening just because i am obese at a young age like them and not vanity. u r great! talk to u soon!

  • I was told the same thing right after my gastric banding, that I'd out eat it. I did. I started to out-eat my RNY and figured I'd better to get to the root of my eating disorder. I'm working on it. It is BRAVE of you to come out and say what you're saying considering the pro-surgery mafia/cheerleaders/surgeons etc who will find a way to blame you for your symptoms. I've always thought you were awesome. Just letting you know. I'm using your video on my blog today. Thanks for the bravery!!.

  • Thank you pretty lady. :)

  • Please , anyone ask me. I had the bypass I have lost all my wieght Im soooo very please, I did EVERYTHING the doctor told me to, and that made a difference!

  • Its to bad she doesnt talk about the health risks involved with being over 300 lb.

  • I bet I'd have developed many ... had I remained that size. I know. :(

  • Do you take liquid centrum /multivitamin?

  • No. I take bariatric-specific vitamins now.

  • Bariatric Advantage?

  • Those, and Celebrate, Building Blocks + Bariatric Fusion. I have bottles of all-- so I take them all.

  • no way, best thing I ever did for myself. !! I am finaly me. Would have never done the band for its "half ass" the band will not be forever and is major surgery when removed. I was 100 over lost it all and now I can live at 35 . I thank God everday I had it. !!

  • Why is the band "half-ass"?

  • How are you doing now?

  • fab !! you? feel great, never sick , look great so they tell me. LOL from a size 20 to a 2/4 quie happy. Had my breast lift 10 months ago and waiting for the rest next yr.

  • Awesome!

  • you ??

  • Same. I am actually looking into revising my surgery to see if it can stop some of my symptoms. :)

  • hi my name is josh im currently 6ft 4 im 435 pounds im getting gastrick sleeve surgery on feb 10 im scared im healthy in the sence of blood pressure and all that do you think it would be smart to get this surgery i think it is what do you think i would love to here what you thought thak you

  • what about men.... i dont know what to do...

  • Men seems to fare somewhat better healthwise.

  • So when you say that you had it done ONLY for reasons of "vanity" are you then saying that you had no social problems or emotional problems (depression, etc) because of your weight?

  • Doesn't everyone? Most people that grow up overweight DO, don't they?

  • No..I don't have social problems or emotional problems at all for being a type 3 obese person..huhu

Maybe because I have a high level of self confidence and I know i'm not ugly. I have lots of friend, I'm engaged etc..

The bad side of being confident is, I have no motivation at all to lose my weight...I'm too comfortable with my life right now and my weight keep increasing..

It just that by being obese, I could not do things that I like and used to do i.e. camping, buying cloths etc..

  • WOW..this is soo informative..Im pretty much in your same predicament. I wasnt super over weight..38bmi no comorbs. But hopefully i dont have any long term issues. Already hypoglycemic and somewhat anemic so your story scared the sh** outta me but yet I love u for it because I needed to get ready for the possiblity of it happeneing to me. + I am 27

  • I asked her if her if her and her husband were counseled on the changes that could occur before she had the surgery and they were not. I think that couseling before the surgery should be necessary. A person needs to be comfortable and confident in the real person they are before undergoing this surgery.

  • She would then cry on everyone's shoulder that she was broke and could not help the fact that she felt she owed it to herself to enjoy as many men as she could since her life had been so miserable before she lost weight. Her ex was wonderful and stayed as long as he could, they went to counseling but she would not listen to anyone. And refused hospitalization.

  • The other developed mental issues regarding her "new found sex appeal", this resulted in the destruction of her 21 year marriage, terrible hurt to her children as she felt she did not have time for them due to her partying. She destroyed a number of marriages. She was fired from a number of jobs for having sex on the job, or missing work due to drinking.

  • I know 2 women that had this done. One had severe complications that resulted in a prolonged hospital stay and the removal of some intestine also infections etc. she almost died.

  • I have been slightly regretting the lap band surgery because of the very slow weight loss, but after watching this it puts it all in perspective. I was a bit envious of the rapid weight loss after rny, but I would much rather have the slow loss versus all the health problems associated with the rny. Thanks for reassuring me that my decision was the right one for me. I hope things start to look up for you. Take care.

  • "health problems" are up to each person. Way more people do better with the bypass than you thin, we just hear about the bad ones , and 99% of them are due to Other problems the person had that has nothing to do with the bypass or that they refussed to change their life correctly as the doctor told them to.

I lose all my wieght (125lbs) been stable for 9 months , would do it over again but Sooner!

  • My friend is getting this done this month and I really wish she would reconsider!

  • Thanks for this video

  • I am in the progress of getting RNY bypass. I am informing myself on a daily basis. Example your video!~!. I am watching my sisters hair fall out in clumps, as well as iron issues. This is not the easy way out at all, take this women health matters into effect now,the risk and complications afterward are high. But so is being obese. including cancers and heart disease. It's a 50-50 and some people are to focused on the weight loss and not the risk.

  • DO NOT GET THAT!! Get a mini-gastric bypass. RNY's are bad.

  • They used to cover that one under OHIP here in Canada but they just recently stopped covering it so now we have to get the RNY.

  • no some people dont listen to their doctor , do what they say and No hair comes out in clumps and no problems

  • Can this be reversed? Can you have a lapband placed? You are NOT whiney. You are informing people which is a VERY good thing. I read somewhere Elliott Yemen's mom died from complications years after her surgery.

  • My aunt, and a couple of my dads friends have developed cancer a few years after they had the surgery. Coincidence? I doubt it.

  • I have never been morbidly obese so it might make people mad that I am even commenting...but I want to. :)

I am very sorry to hear about your complications. This should be something that patients are told BEFORE. Kudos to you for speaking out.

  • i can't believe you would say that!

I'm young, Morb obese i'm going for R&Y and i'm low in vitamin b12 I still have to take pills for that..other then that i'm Healthy. if it wasn't for your surgery you would of have worst problem such as Cancer, diabetes.. possibility lead the death.. obesity is worst then cancer.. I Don't care if i have to take vitamins or pills for the rest of my life.. as long i'll be alive a lot longer sorry but it sounds to me that you rather die then take pills everyday.

  • I have also been on the fence. I will not get it as of right now. I am not that over weight nor do I have any health issues but they say they will do the surgury for me. THANKS

  • I have been so on the fence about this surgery. I've been finding every excuse not to do it. I didn't know about the long term effects. Glad you posted. Thanks.

  • i think that this was a very honest and brave video and i take my hat off off to you ! i myself had a gastric band in august 08 and have lost 28 lbs so far - which to me feels slow but after watching your video i'm thinking that slow doesn't have to be a bad thing x thankyou , claire from the uk near manchester xxx

  • I don't think your being angry at all. I think your very brave. I appreciate what your saying and I'm willing to learn from it. I do have a question, I also am suffering with blood sugar issues, how are you handling your hypoglycemia. It's a big problem for me I suffer with it every day. Night time is the worst, so if you have any suggestions I would appreciate hearing them. Thank

  • why are you so angry?? Don't you know how many people have benefitted from the surgery?? Can't you feel beautiful? It's your fault you are sick, you should check into surgeries before you have them. You are one of many many people who had the surgery and you have bad health, so what, deal!!

  • It's my, fault? Thanks for that. I am dealing. I am dealing with a pile of shit. In fact, it's given me good things, so I am not THAT angry, so I am not sure where you are getting this from.

  • you are an adult with intellegence. it was up to you to educated yourself before having surgery. if you had done your research you would have known the implications. quit whining and deal.

  • Wel, you're not dead! You're very much alive. It's good you see in hindsight that you made the choice to have the RNY for the wrong reason (i.e. vanity), but getting the lap band instead would not have changed that reason.

I hear you're frustrated with your new issues post surgery, but they're all manageable. I recommend not telling people what surgery to have or not have. That's a personal decision between a patient and their Dr. Just share your story. Let people make up their own minds.

  • Why didn't you seek the old school method of weight loss: eating healthy foods in moderation paired with frequent exercise? I'm surprised that the medical team you sought for this procedure did not defer you as a candidate because of your clear medical history. If your only motive was driven by vanity, I find it hard to believe that the they wouldn't suggest less invasive methods for weight loss before resorting to a gastric bypass.

  • what a very negative video. I dont feel for you cause you did it for vainity reasons, now i see your also making fun of the people who are on top of the world. and then later they wont be. i am having suergery this febuary 09. i am looking foward to it. For me its not vanity its health. Everyone has a right to a opinon but its shame your showing negativity. Did you attend education classes in a center with all doctors.Proper education and good doctors in a one center is best not ala carting.X-

  • Very sorry for the problems you are having with the gastric bypass, but they do(or shoulder) outlines potential problems you can have with the bypass surgery. Just keep in there and don't give up.

  • I think you are awesome, first off! Second off..i know how you feel about people using youtube as surgical advice and everything, but i just want you to know i took your opinion heavily before deciding lap band over rny. i'm 20 and healthy besides being obese...thank you for your videos!

  • Hi and thank you for being so open. I am so glad you posted this video. I am going for the gastric bypass surgery in a month. I wanted the band however do a hernia it is not an option and now i am doing some serious thinking. I just got word that they want to operate using a robot. Do you think it would make any difference. Im from Canada and from my research I dont think it has ever been performed here. Did you have the open, laproscopic or robot??

  • Lap, if it is an option. :) The least amount of post operative pain. Robotic, I have heard of... how interesting!

  • What you aren't considering is what health issues you WOULD have had in a few years.. at age 25 being 300+ .. you would have developed health issues that would be waaaaaay more difficult to deal with. You need to remember that. Please get some therapy. You sound so miserable. I feel for you .. I am 100% that you have been to hell and back. I am not trying to diminish that. But.. You really need to deal with your feelings.

  • I appreciate your video and honesty. I've been trying to find people to give a straight up answer instead of always saying it's your choice. I realize that but it's good to hear the truth and real life experiences from people like u who are going through this and have to live with the decision you made. Thanks and Take Care!

  • I think it is unfair you are putting people off having this operation. You admitted that your's was probably for vanity as you had no health problems. Alot of people who are watching this are the people who NEED this operation for their health. I had this op done 5 months ago and am down 7 stone (98lbs). I think your video is giving out the wrong message

  • That's fine. I would have made an entirely different video at five months out. No worries.

  • @charlybears This woman is merely pointing out how disasterous in reality choosing such measures over natural weightloss. Why should the valid testimony of those who have experienced the numerous side effects. Most doctors are just lap dogs for a corrupt medical industry driven by profits. The pharmacueticals plastic surgeons doctors are severely compromised by the pyramid system. Most doctors have only the most basic training and you only have to look how the maladminister so many antideppresants .

  • I am suppossed to have rny in three months, now i dont think i can!!!!!
