Many people don't understand the law. Here in the states if you yell at a cop like in many APEC vids it is considered assault,(yes yelling at a government official [police too] is considered assault.) When you touch them that's battery. So if your at a protest and your yelling at a police officer your assaulting them, they can push you away, and/or take you to jail for it.

The thing most people seem to forget, and it's unfortunate, is that Police deal with violent and aggressive people all the time. They have to take these safety measures because it only takes one bastard one lucky moment to kill an unsuspecting cop. How hard is it to just comply with Police direction? Mate Police in NSW have not worn "metalic identifying police numbers" since about 1992 (and they were never worn on the shoulders) when they were replaced with plastic name plates (held on by a metal pin). If you're going to bitch about something, make sure that something is a thing you know even just a little about...
