@vpsaline In SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Autocross (Also called Solo II) the class these run in is called 'Formula 125' which means go karts of 125cc displacement maximum. A 4-stroke of this displacement would NOT be competitive AT ALL! There is a Junior go kart class for kids under a certain age (about 10 or 12 yo, I think) that they run single speed 4-stroke engines in. It is a MUCH slower class! The 125cc shifter karts are usually the fastest thing at the meet, beating Corvettes, etc.

When you say it costs 8-10gs to get a new cart, are 4 stroke engines available/competitive?
