If the Knicks were smart, Walsh would have had D'Antoni play Marbury to raise Marbury's trade value then get rid of him. By not playing them, they killed Marbury's trade value. I'm glad Marbury, who is a cancer, is gone, but the Knicks could have went about it better and got more back. Every team that traded Marbury away got better, except the Knicks who did the buyout.

Player. The knicks agreed to pay stephon 21 million but later decided that they did not want him. Regardless, they had a contract and still owed him 21 million. If they'd have traded him, then his new team would have inherited his contract. No one wanted the burden of that contract so the knicks could not trade him. Marbury forfeited 1 million of the 21 million. So the knicks basically paid him 20 million to get the hell out of town.
