  • what was the whole beating you out of the barn thing?

  • While your doing video of Dallas you should slide over and check out some of the Fort Worth stations they too use the Locution system the downtown stations are pretty busy including station 4,3, and 5

  • @cstexasguy Thanks -- those stations are on my list! I just need to program my trunking scanner to pick up FWFD Dispatch. Do you know when this department went to the Locution system?

  • since when is dispatch automated ??

  • @pmanson0624 Hi and thanks for the question. I think the Locution system was put in about 3 years ago if memory serves.

  • @ColinFWheeler wow you guys are pretty advanced. Our dispatch hasnt been updated yet but state protocol is calling for it. I dont think we'll have the Locution system you mentioned

  • PRO-528, nice! Got one myself!

  • Wow, My dream is to grow up, go to collage, then Probie school. and work with the fire department where i live :)

  • So weird to hear units from one station having different numbers. Indianapolis/Marion County fire units are all branded the same number as their stations.

  • I wish they did that too. When they changed stations in Seattle Aid Car 5 was at Station 5 and then got switched to station 10 and was still called Aid 5

  • @macantr how does the numbering work, if there is two or more engines, ladders etc...?

I would like to know, Thanks!

  • @starcraftguy1 For Marion County fire departments at least, no station has more than 1 engine or ladder co. I know some of the volunteer departments around Indiana have something like a primary engine and secondary engine that would respond from one station, but not here in the city.

  • @macantr what i mean is... if there is two or more engines at one station, is the numbering like, engine 11, engine 12...?

  • pretty nice video do some with a follow up or something =]

  • Hi and thanks for the comment. I've moved to Dallas, TX but I'll try to resume filming fire responses w/ the real time radio dispatch as soon as I can. The DFD has some very busy stations (e.g. 34, 11, 18).

  • I did my paramedic internship with Dallas Fire Dept at Rescue 26 in Oak cliff.. Another place you should film is station 37 off the 75 and near Southwestern Blvd. They are very busy!

  • Hi ... yes, Dallas Fire and Rescue Station 37 is on my list ... busy station, and they just added a new unit called Medic 1 (one of two "Medic" units in the DFD). I believe it and Medic 2 (at station 6) are non transporting medic units of some kind -- like the squads at the L.A. County FD

  • Also in downtown Seattle, the maneuverability of the smaller Aid units is nicer for the tight streets and heavy traffic situations compared to sending an Engine or a Truck as your primary BLS rig.

  • What's the difference between an aid and medic unit?

  • Hi and thanks for the question. In the Seattle FD, Aid units provides Basic Life Support (BLS) care. Medic units provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) care. The 4 Aid units are all in the urban core area (at stations 2, 10, 14 and 25). They take some of the work load off the Engines and Ladders, and increase the likelihood that these companies will be available for fire responses. The Medic units are based throughout the city, and are sent on ALS / "Medic" responses.

  • thanks!
