You make a good point. But those that fail in America are punished severely. We can see such a mind set in the character of General Patton - "...One thing they (Americans) can not abide is a Loser." Yes the word Abide says much for us here I would say. If you fail to be profitable enough in America people can and will refuse to abide you in anyway! What is most important in an economic system is economic mobility. People need to have a way to improve their economic situations. Without any reasonably feasible means for citizens to realize their goals and dreams, any nation is doomed. Civil disobedience and insubordination will always ensue. Regardless of what ideology one adheres to, it is important that those who work hard and play by the rules, get rewarded. The USA has become known to favor wealth, not work. Success is being inherited.

That is kind of a defeatist atitude is it not? How do you expect to get ahead thinking like that? It's not that hard to get ahead, you just have to have a good idea and work hard to make it happen. If you fail you did something wrong and deserve to fail. Correct it and do it again. If you assume your life sucks and you can't do anything about it then thats is what you will get out of life.

Perhaps the last two sentances sound defeatist because they are. They are also accurate descriptions of capitalism. Hence the word "capital" The example of the MBA graduate who can not open his franchise store because he doesn't have the money but the convicted felon just released from prison with an inheritance opens the very same business.These things happen all the time. The correlation between intelligence and income is dissolving.

Generally speaking, those without wealth will work 10 times as hard with 1/2 of the results. Those with wealth will work 1/2 as hard with 10 times the results. The governement says your only likely to be as successful as your parents. Socialism and all of its failed attempts, were bolstered by the fact that it could remove the inequalities and disparities that existed. Sexism and racism are not big problems in America as so many people believe. Classism is far more ugly and dangerous.

I don't like the idea of having a "big brother government". That isn't their job, and although it has advantages, it has similarities with an overly protective parent. The kid won't grow learning to be accountable for their actions. Big government is IN MY HUMBLE OPINION the OPPOSITE of the american dream, and i think that the american people are being foolish by creating parents out of their public servants. Hey Warrn,

I admire your sentiment but there are a few things you should research. The DJIA is an index and is not the same thing as the NYSE, which is an exchange.

Some of the stocks traded on the NYSE are used as indicators in the DJ index.

Capitalism in is essence is pure market freedom. Our economic system in this country is far from that idealism unfortunately, and if we don't return to what the founders intended, bankruptcy is inevitable.
