Really great job ! - I was Googling for homemade plows and came across your vidio. Love how long the video was, that it is in HD, and it was full of great info. It always amazes me what a creative mind can accomplish with handy around the house materials. I often wondered if I could build a plow like this for my lawn tractor, and now I have some guidance and hope ! Thanks for posting this ! - Frosty up in snowy cold Canada.
Normally I don't comment on videos like this, but I really like the way you put this together, held strong to your ideas, and just made a fun video to watch.
you shore your not a red neck haha.fun to watch video.have you gotten any heavy wet snow because if you do your not going anywhere with out the chains.i finaly gave in and bought a big old snow blower about 8 years ago.as long as it is not slush it will throw it . thanks for posting.oh looks like you fly Rc planes now theres a great hobby i fly or should i say i crash Rc helis there a blast
Just loved it!!!!! Wish you lived closer to help me with mine... They want $400 for a 42" blade... After seeing your great work... I might copy you a bit...... Thanks and great Job....
I caught those rear tires starting to spin... chains would be nice...or calcium in your rear tires...your on pretty level ground... U ever Cut a Hoagie in half with a set of Sheet metal shears??? I thought not... "walks away with a warm feeling inside"
sears actually has a metal snow blade for the YT and GT series and its actually very similar in design except its made of metal and has an adjustment shaft that can both lift and lower and turn the blade. But you did save like 300 by doing this i guess
i hate snow wish it was summer all year make sure you change the oil and filter every 50 hours and check the level every time you mow these briggs & stratton engines the single cylinders like that like to blow connecting rods.
very very VERY nice! well done if i must say.. although i dont think it is a very smart idea to use your blades, but i am impressed! hope to see more vids.
I like your plow ,but would like to say that I have had a piece of wood 2' X4' on the front of my tractor for the last 4 season of snow and let me tell you it works better that any plow I've used before that.I'll sent pic's if you would like to see how I mounted mine.I'll give you a 7 for effort on yours..you'll see that mine does a lot more for snow removal.
I also have a YS4500 to which I have contimplated a plow blade as the snowblower attachment I have seems to run thru belts or throws the belts way too often. I love your idea.
Absolutely amazing Dave! Your ingenuity and creativity simply have no boundaries. Looks like you could now easily clear a place for me to park my tractor-trailer behind your house should we ever be able to head up to Sibley during this treacherous time of year, lol! We are currently in Indianapolis and they are calling for more snow tonight and tomorrow! We head out to China Lake, CA this Monday, woohoo! We were in Calexico last week and it was 75 degrees! I miss it already!
Hey dave have you ever wondered ,WHY headlights on a lawn mower,if you cut your grass after dark then its a noise abatement law.Who cuts grass in the dark.lol
Hi Dave... Man I could watch you all day long, its very relaxing, and very amusing at the same time. I'd rather watch your videos over any "Sponsored by" plane videos :-)
I'd take a trip up there just to have a ride on "red", but sadly I'm in the UK.....
I wish my neighbours were all Dave Herberts! What a relaxing and fun neighbourhood that would be...
Id be cautious about putting on any tyre chains, the spinning tyres would act as a buffer against over working the drive transmission belts adding chains would give you too much traction these "toy tractors" are definately not made for this kind of work.
Hey! Matt (Mattsplat). It was fun flying with you on Aerofly today. Thought I would hop on here and check out your snow blade video. Nicely done. I get a kick out of all your gadgets and inventions. Hope to see you on Aerofly again soon.
Hey Big Brother..... aren't you clever!!!!! Very creative! Enjoyed seeing the snow but enjoying our 80 degree weather here today in beautiful Palm Desert, Ca. Sis
@bearinstincts Hahaha! That's it, rub it in! My mom lives in Palm Desert, I know exactly what it's like out there this time of year! Truly a beautiful place.
@SoCalsandman780 I agree....There is no better place to be than here in the Winter.... a little piece of heaven with flowers in full bloom and the weather in the 70-80's and no mosquitoes any time of the year..... but if I want snow I go 45 miles to Idyllwild to my cabin and it's just like Iowa..... best of both worlds!
@bearinstincts Yes, I've been to Idlyllwild a few times, it's beautiful up there. We are currently in Indianapolis (where it's FREEZING!!) but are heading to China Lake, CA this Monday. Can't wait! I like the little breaks of warm weather (it is SO hard to leave!) at home before heading back out to the "Tundra" in the midwest, haha! poor Dave, he has to stay in the freezing cold all the time, heheh!
Dave, Thanks for the idea of building a wooden snow blade for the lawn tractor. I was about ready to put down a few hundred for a metal one to fit my Bolens tractor. I should have thought of wood, it is strong, cheap and easy to work with.
Nice work Dave. The paint job makes it look really nice. We have about two feet of snow here in Royalston. Great for cross country skiing and snowshoes.
I just used some heavy half inch rope and made myself a set of rope tire chains for my lawn tractor, cheap, easy and dosent tear stuff up as much as chains. Also my homemade plow is at about the same angle as yours and sometimes if it gets caught the front tires lift up. I need a bar like that in the front or your plow for mine to keep it down. Thanks for the ideas.
I wish I had that setup but I don't know if it would push all the snow I have here. It's above my knees now and it's still coming down! I wish I could move to California!
@NightFlyyer Thanks for the reply. I know the grass isn't always greener but right now I'm 5 months from seeing grass! and moving to California isn't an option since I don't even have a passport and can't even get into the U.S. at the moment. Best I can hope for is British Columbia.
@StewieRc Cause I bought the snowblower first, not knowing they made one to go on front of the tractor. I really need both anyway, as some places the tractor wont fit and others the snowblower is too much work. Id rather ride. So now I will use what I have and not spend any money unless I have to.
@StewieRc Actually the angle I have does a very good job, as you should be able to see. I cleaned the entire driveway and sidewalks, just fine. Too late now anyway, as I had to start somewhere . Hind sight is always 20 20.
remember that company that made the automated vacume ?????..........check if they got a automated snowblower/grasscutter.......lol great vid....and mod!!!!!
