  • Beautiful music, beautiful message! I'm a high school teacher and I make sure I teach how to protect our planet by using both sides of the paper and using just the right size for a quiz and so on.

  • Wow - this is amazing - so much fun - thanks dustin!

  • This is so great. The best song I have ever known. Way to much fun to be legal! Fun fun fun. I love this group. Thanks Dustin! WOW

  • Buy defiance string band they are the people in this. The gutiar player the bass player and the banjo player. The newest cd with John Summers (thank god i'm a country boy)he wrote it. This Is True!!!!

  • Funny Video Dad!

  • Very good song love it

  • Amazing song. One of the best songs I have ever heard. The words are poetic. Look out Encana!

  • It is musical and funny. I am not sure how they pulled this off or even why but this is part of American Bluegrass History now and it is fabulous. I love these guys! Where can I but a CD? I want to download them on itunes.

  • At first I think this is a Joke. But then I listen and the music is actually very good. I understand why anyone would be upset if a big gas company polluted a stream but is bluegrass music the idyllic way to express opposition against corporate bad behavior? Who are these musicians? How does one buy a CD or get the music? (nothing on itunes)

  • I saw on CNN that you can light tap water on fire in Colorado because of natural gas. It is not just Divide Creek that you can light on fire anymore.

  • It is just pure, clear, and beautiful!

  • Lets face it. This is the best bluegrass song ever. Western Colorado, Political, real, no studio, live, creek, truth, honor, justice. I have to say that I love these guys. The sound is true. There is no edit or sound over. This is the real deal. True Americana. There is so other better. I searched ebay, itunes, youtube. Pure.

  • I like this one the best. I like the J.D. Crowe thing but is what is up with those shirts? The Dillards I think wrote the tune but I really like these words. I mean OMG Very PC!

  • "Old Home Place" By J.D. Crowe or Plow in the Field by the Dillards, or every bluegrass song ever sung by any group ever. The only difference?

  • Whats the original song tital of this piece? (the original bluegrass song)

  • its called "The Old Home Place" J.D. Crowe does a version...

  • Great song...and true! I lived on East Divide Creek (near where this song was recorded) for 13 years and have been disheartened to see the beautiful landscape riddled with gas wells and the water tainted with benzene. I love this area in Western Colorado...so much so that my first children's picture book entitled "Me, the Tree" was written and illustrated with photography I took while living there. I am glad Don Kauffman is speaking out against all the drilling through a very powerful song!

  • What distinguishes "Encana Bluegrass Blues!" from the other recent Dillards musical adaptations —"Ricky Skaggs" and "J.D. Crowe and the New South," in case you need reminding — is that it is not one of the best songs ever made. If screams the truth about a very bad company. Kudos Kaufman. That's faint praise, I know, and I'm even willing to go a bit further. There are aspects of "Encana," directed by Don Kaufman and Donald Paine under the auspices of the BBC animation unit, that ignite!

  • If this is "bluegrass" (broadly defined), then it is time we hear more These Artists have no CDs, DVDs, books, movies, etc. They are traditional, not newgrass, gospel, but this is not whatever suits your fancy. This is Attack-Grass. These artists cut with the music and sting with the words. As a fan I want more. I want to see them live in concert. I want CD's. I laugh but it is no longer a joke. Millions of downloads later. So smooth so clear so real.

  • They are playing at the Hotel Colorao In Glenwood Springs. TONIGHT. This will be a huge event attended by thousands.

  • I read the article in the Vail Daily. Good article--the link to the video didn't work, though. Thanks for intorducing me to these great artists!.

  • I was moved. This guy is a natural. This singer is a powerful musical spirit. He is a non Grammy-nominated artist, a non award-winning songwriter, and on the west bank of a dead creek for a first-call session musician, living and working on the fringes of Silts's Huge Music scene. This song occupies a unique half-acre of bluegrass history. In a Genre that has pigeonholing down to an art, "The Last Minute String Band" stands out as refreshingly mischievous artists. Super fan favorite world over!

  • How did you score the Last Minute String Band? This guys are the best musicians in Colorado and this is the funniest song in the nation. CNN could not get this act. NBC cant even talk to these guys. Dan Rather is on their no call list. Move over Wolf Blitzer David Willis booked the Last Minute String Band playing the Encana Bluegrass Blues. This is the kind of thing that can make a guy in the news business. This is an amazing story. Only Willis had the courage of a true newsman!

  • "no comment" Again.

    From the film Notting Hill:

Max: You haven't slept with her, have you?

William: That is a cheap question and the answer is, of course, "no comment".

    Max: "No comment" means "yes".

    William: No, it doesn't.

    Max: Do you ever masturbate?

    William: DEFINITELY no comment.

Max: You see? It means "yes".

Encana has a few comments though....

  • Will do.

  • adroit, having the capacity for thought and reason especially to a high degree. Well endowed with the capacity to reason and protest without protesting. sharp quick thought, but not "in your face." Humble yet honest. Truthful yet strong. E-mail me. I have talked to the artist. I know how we an talk too him. Send me a youtube e-mail and I will give you what I know. They are from Western Colorado. They are a tribe of musicians who are free thinkers. This is a GREAT SONG!

  • Locals' tune goes global

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — A video of local musicians — including a workers' compensation attorney — singing a less-than-flattering song about EnCana may have been viewed by some 350 million people in various parts of the world.

Clips of the song were featured in a 10-minute BBC World News America television segment on natural gas drilling. The four musicians are Don Kaufman, plus Don and April Paine and Dustin Micheli. They all play with the Last Minute String Band.

  • EnCana stipulated to an amended Order Finding Violation finding EnCana responsible for numerous violations of the COGCC rules and regulations that resulted in the release of natural gas and other related compounds from the Williams Fork Formation to West Divide Creek from the Schwartz 2-15B Well. The subsequent fine levied by the Commission and agreed to by EnCana was $371,200. What were the other "other related compounds?" Is this the Benzene?

  • I am very interested in doing a Newspaper story on this song. I have watched the BBC piece and have some information about the chemical spill. Please send me a message if you have any first hand information about the music, the musicians, the story, at all. I think I located one of the singers but he had no comment about anything so I am trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle here. We are not allowed to post our e-mails but youtube allows members to message each other. Please help.

  • Of all of the songs I have heard this is the best. This is musical and hilarious. It is comical and witty. That piece on the BBC is very scary. I did not know that we had Benzene in such great amounts being released into Divide Creek. It is about time that somebody stood up. This is a good example of how to make a point without being rude or mean. Just sing it. This is a clever way to make a message in today's busy society without coming across as unkind boorish discourteous or foul.

  • Bravo! Great way to protest the huges corporations that polute our enviroment.

  • Are you just another gasshole, shilling for the industry? Why do you hate our area so much that you are willing to sell it out for a quick buck?

  • Bravo Bravo Bravo!!!

Another branch from the tree of talent known formerly as "Wanda and Her Assets."

  • Are you the Woman in the Video?

  • Super

  • I love this song. I think that is the best song I have heard in a long time. The "Encana Bluegrass Blues" is genius. It is the truth. Encana did release 80 times the amount of Benzene in Deivide Creek necessary to kill a human with cancer. Were do I buy a CD. I love this song. When you drive to Grand Junction there is a brown haze of chemicals fogging up the Road where these companies drill. I feel very sorry for the people ho breath this air and drink the polluted water. AMAZING.

  • David this rocks.
